Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Masterpiece Society (1992)
Fantastic - don't let the time bother you.
Whether people agree or not with equalities n 2023, we all at least know that people with disabilities or addiitonal needs are both present and very much part of our societies.
The reveal that a supposed error (Geordi's vision) for Moab IV would have led to him never being born, for being seen as defective, would yet save the day.
For all of us able bodied people, who have a "leg up" in society, let us not ignore the power that showing the person with a supposed disability is the most useful person in the room.
And this, despite what some rather odd people in recent times seem to have totally missed, is what Star Trek has been about since day one.
Futurama: Parasites Regained (2023)
Fantastic!
Loving this season of Futurama. 🤖
Whilst the gags are generally right on the nose and right in front of you, they still make me laugh and I'm finding the journey into the gags very clever.
It's the small touches that make the obvious rip off of Dune (and other parodies this season) so good. The search for the Quiznos Cadillac, worms within worms, even the Roach Thopters. It's all blatantly obvious, but whilst you're expecting it (and nice meta-yet-external reference to M. Night Shyamalan), the way they deliver it makes it all work.
Futurama always made me think more, and Simpsons made me LOL - now, Futurama is making me LOL too!
Good news everyone - this is a fantastic epsiode!
Stargate Universe: Hope (2011)
Very clever epsiode!
Season 2 of SGU really stepped up and showed why it could have gotten even better.
This episode has two parallel A stories, related but almost opposite. 2 people trapped into another's body, with a debate on if/how the other 2 consciousnesses should be saved. The other story about 2 people needed surgery to share a kidney from one person, for another who's kidneys are failing.
Acting is great, with reflections on the debates in society about what lives are worth saving, and why, along with issues of consent and what, if anything, science can justify certain moral decisions.
Very recommended!
Stargate SG-1: Heroes: Part 2 (2004)
Never fails.
The need for a free press (as awful as it can be) is a powerful yet totally side note here.
The tears flow easily if you sit back and take it in. Bravi, writers, actors, and crew.
A fantastic episode, which, although many of us fans think the main event too early, it works so well because it was.
It easily makes you reflect on the sacrifices service personnel make, not by going to war, or entering a danger zone, but merely by turning up for work, no matter what their role.
One can oppose military action, but still support the military. A strange irony this episode helps to explain, without having to say the words.
For All Mankind: Stranger in a Strange Land (2022)
Beautiful.
Just absolutely amazing.
The direction, acting, music, story. Just all at the top of their game. What a beautiful thing to behold. I wish there was a new episode every day.
More.
The Blacklist: Genuine Models Inc. (No. 176) (2022)
Actually good, because....
OK, yep. The A story is silly. It has a base in reality, but the extent of the implementation of the "products" is way too advanced.
HOWEVER - the B story is wonderful! Clever, subtle, and a fun twist. And Spader gets to play.
So it isn't great due to the primary silliness, but the 2nd plot is great fun!
The Blacklist: Lady Luck (No. 69) (2019)
Damn that's good!
Phenomenal episode. Best since final ep of season 1. Great acting, clever and intricate, yet still simple and easy to follow story. And wow - that ending!
