Chalked full of insight into the lives of the Gentleman Driver
kwmikedmoore9 January 2020
While this documentary was not a thrill a minute it brought to light everything involved with being an amateur LMP driver, with interviews from several top "gentleman drivers" from the reasons they decided to become one, to the forces that drive them.. pun intended, lol just a deep dive into the minds of Gentleman Drivers

Could be better
justindhoke8 February 2019
In my opinion, documentaries should be about showcasing extraordinary things. Highlighting stories that not many people know about or a deep dive into an incredible event. There's nothing extraordinary about 4 rich guys buying their way into racing. I'd be more interesting in a origin story of any of the professional drivers featured than how the main group spent millions to pretend to be professional. It's a 5 from me on cinematography only.

Live The Dreams Many People Have
iquine17 August 2020
(Flash Review)

For those who like auto racing, specifically European auto racing, that is where gentleman drivers are found. What is a gentleman driver? They are very good and very wealthy amateur race car drivers who race endurance races alongside the highly skilled professionals. They bring the lion's share of the funding for their teams in order to compete. There is some decent insight into that lifestyle and how they hone their skills to not embarrass the team during races as well as some good racing footage. Each gentleman driver interviewed talks about their background and how they can afford to race. Yet there is a bit too much of product or company plugging. But they are businessmen so I bet they angled for that. Cinematically, it is ok and informative yet not super creative.

Passion, purpose and a need to win
emily-3746817 November 2018
This film is about so much more than the sport of racing. It's an inside view into the minds of four powerful men and the things that drive them to win races are the same drivers that put them into a stratosphere of success most will never know. Great documentary to be enjoyed by race and non-race fans alike.

83 minutes of putrid self indulgence

Don't waste your time on this one, unrelatable people bragging about how good they have it.

Well worth watching.
brenduro4 February 2019
If you're into sports car racing or anything automotive this is a really interesting watch. It follows four entrepreneurs who essentially pay to race in some of the worlds most challenging races right alongside some of the worlds best drivers. They cover how the entrepreneurs came to be, mistakes made along the way and how they got into racing. The footage & production is excellent, as well. A really fascinating documentary!

Really disappointing
brakecheck-5730030 March 2019
Thought this would be more about how challenging it is to drive a race car as amateurs.

Instead there was about 45+ minutes footage of some extremely wealthy men getting to plug their businesses and how driven and determined they are, and how everything is about winning and making money etc etc. Pretty loathsome stuff.

It's really dull listening to people you can't relate to, bragging about how amazing they are.

I hoped it would reveal how they have to train physically and practice in sims etc. This documentary didn't suggest it was very hard at all, except you need to have money and turn up to the races on time.

Not a good image for motorsport unfortunately.

The phrase "gentleman drivers" is very outdated as well. If a young girl was watching this documentary it's hardly promoting a sport that is accessible to them.

I know it's not these guys' fault that they're called gentleman drivers, but still, it's the 21st century and I think this sort of documentary will just alienate more people from motor racing than it will do to promote it.

A very engaging watch
raquelbeeby1 February 2019
Motor racing is not my thing but this film had me engrossed from start to finish. I loved the psychology inserts and the personal stories of the drivers were so genuine and interesting. It was a very slick production with great camera work and commentary that made it immersive in the racing and the business lives of the drivers.

I expected something better
mkasprowicz-3483018 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Movie is about rich people who take part in Le Mans racing series. Because regulations say, one of the driver in team must be amateur who not is professional race driver. I was expected movie about racing. Not what they do in own company, what he sell and how he makes money in stock exchange. In movie was to much parts of their live and not enough about racing in Le Mans series.

An inside look at the sporting lives of the super successful entrepreneurs
nick-411045 February 2019
This movie is great for the casual motorsport fan as well as someone completely new to motorsports. For me, the most exciting part was listening and learning about the thought process behind some of the most successful business people and how their way of thinking translated to a very unique sport. Whether it's Ed Brown, Paul Dalla Lana, Mike Guasch, or Ricardo Gonzalez, each is massively successful and has a unique thought process that we can learn from to improve in business and our own working lives. The racing side makes it massively exciting and shows a very clear view of the exciting dynamics behind a sport that is oftentimes hard to touch & feel because of the many details involved and complicated technology.

Great movie that is not just about racing
deltagolfsierra-1963731 January 2019
As a race fan, I really enjoyed learning the off-track stories of these gentleman drivers that I have followed through their racing careers. However, you don't have to be a racing fan to enjoy this movie. It is really about how these men pursued their dreams and reached high levels of success through hard work, persistence, and dedication to be the best, both on and off the track.

All Things Being Equal
twalsh-183692 February 2019
When you bring successful entrepreneurs together in a sport, each of whom can afford the best technology in race cars, the only thing left that sets them apart is individual skill and determination. Their team dynamic also comes through and exemplifies why they are successful in their careers outside of motor sports.

Outstanding!
brianuhlmann10 February 2019
I thoroughly enjoyed, "The Gentleman Driver." Prior to watching, I had heard about gentleman drivers in sports car racing and always just assumed they were simply rich men who were carried in the team by their professional cohorts. I had no idea that there are racing series that require gentleman drivers! I have a new respect for the level of commitment many gentlemen drivers put into their teams and into racing. And it was fascinating to see how well their business mindsets translate to racing. This movie will likely increase my interest in sports car racing. Well done!

An incredible documentary on an uncommon way to achieve success in sportscar racing
wsaghir2 August 2019
Most racecar drivers who compete at the highest levels of the sport are born strapped to the seat of a go kart. There are, however, individuals who make it to the top unconventionally and who start racing relatively late compared to those whom they're competing against. These individuals are known as Gentleman Drivers.

Predominantly successful entrepreneurs, Gentleman Drivers spend their lives competing on and off the track. This incredible film documents the journey of a handful of these drivers and provides us with an in-depth look at their lives, businesses, ways of thinking, and their battles on the track.

What I loved most about this film is that it showed how success and greatness aren't one dimensional for these individuals. The pursuit of success and greatness permeates every aspect of their lives and that is what enables them to compete at high levels in an elite sport, create and manage multimilliion dollar companies, and excel in many areas of life.

Behind the Scenes of Amateur Drivers in Professional Racing
adamallen-505115 February 2019
The Gentleman Driver provides great insight into the world of amateur drivers in endurance racing. The film follows a small group of interesting drivers on and off the track. I honestly wish it could have been longer in order to follow the drivers for a longer part of the season.

Hopefully this film will have sequels or a serial show to catch up to the current year and follow new drivers, though Dalla Lana is still one of the best.

The love of endurance sportscar racing

Great film! I wonder why Paul Dalla Lana doesn't get more press in Canada. I guess it is because he isn't playing golf or tennis.
