Personally, I enjoyed this episode because the judges were all nice, funny, and light-hearted. Vineet was also quite humble and had a great presence on the show. I also really liked seeing the various contestants deal wth the "twist," which is Butter Chicken without Chicken. So why the low score?
India is a beautiful country full of many different cultures, which means there are thousands of dishes that could have been chosen. I was not happy with the choice of Butter Chicken. It's already global and it has been westernized a lot. Some would even argue it could fit well in the UK context. I would have liked them to choose an already vegetarian dish, and something that introduces something new from Indian cuisine to the international stage.
I am honestly sick of the lack representation and diversity in many of these shows, and this one is no exception. It's very American and biased towards a Western point-of-view about food. I recall the two great chefs (from Japan) who were sent home because they included something that was Asian inspired into their Final plate. The other chefs that moved on also included Asian ingredients in their food, but they moved on because it was less traditional. That is not fair in my eyes.
