Psychological Horror/Dark Comedy
anonveli17 September 2019
It's worth your time and considering its runtime it's not a very big investment either. This one of those movies that's an interesting watch one time through but I don't know if I'll find myself aching to watch it again, at least not any time soon. I'll give it points for creativity and sticking with the theme of April Fools' Day, as well as MacArthur's performance. I think overall it would have been better with an ending that was a little more gratifying. Then again, I could see where some audiences might like the way things ended so maybe that's just me. So, when do we get to see Uncle Sam start murdering some people?

This is not to be taken so seriously. The way people watch movies today is sad. This is great b movie horror. Nothing more nothing less..

Surprisingly complex
rivertam2624 March 2020
Initially I kept passing this entry aside but it actually pleasantly surprised me. Starring a sexy but psychotic Hayes MacArthur (Angie Tribeca) as a hotel worker who messes with a client played by adorable Keir O'Donnell (Wedding Crashers) whose job is to go around trashing motels basically. It's a fun ride as things graduate from off color jokes to murder. The setup is simple and most of the film takes place at the colorful motel. In an interesting twist the film delivers it's main characters well enough that you're sort of sympathetic towards their plight and are rooting for them. It's definitely one of Hulu's Into the Dark best entries and proves that they are open to exploring interesting and intriguing subject matter.

Fun story...
marie-ketring16 March 2019
I saw this recently at SXSW with the writer's Q&A. I really enjoy this kind of crazy story, especially one that calls to the world we live in with online trolls and real life trolls. It was entertaining and had some great laugh points but my main complaint is that the lead character seemed a little flat and truly unlikeable. I ended up liking the crazier person more. My favorite part was right at the beginning when it smash-cut to his online persona. Unfortunately the film couldn't live up to the hype at the beginning.

Decent date night thriller
bradley-hodgin3 April 2019
Ran across this on Hulu and took a shot on it, I was pleasantly surprised. It's not a masterpiece but it's certainly watchable. The movie starts off a bit slow as you're introduced to the main character, but once he checks in to the hotel and meets Chester things ratchet up and get wild. I don't want to give to much away but if you're looking for a passable slasher/thriller that mixes in some hilarious moments, look no further.

First half of the film was great last half just derailed it.
mochteam1 January 2022
The movie was kind of too silly to take seriously and had a quirky vibe to it then in 3 quarters of the way in it just becomes bizarre. Would have just been a better film if they kept is as a horror comedy about two siblings trying to escape a psycho but that plot changed quite abruptly making me dislike the movie because it turned into something else entirely complete with a bad ending.

Redeeming parts of this movie? Not many when the ending doesn't pay off and the movie derails it's own story line. It's will deserving of the negative reviews. Sad part is the acting in the film wasn't bad at all... the story on the other hand is.

Little slow at first, then...BOOM...
billyllewis4 April 2019
Started a little slow, as a lot of thrillers do and then, BOOMSHAKALAKA, it grabs you and won't let go. I didn't want to like it because at first the bartender/comedian (lol) is a little annoying but then it all starts to make sense, or the lack thereof, which is what made it, for me, worth watching. IDK if everyone that is talking trash about this flick is perhaps trying to compare it to The Shining or some other timeless thriller but ya know what they say, trolls are everywhere nowadays and people like to unveil them. LOL 😂

This was really bad, don't pay attention to fake reviews
goods1163 April 2019
I like horror movies, I thought the blumhouse production would mean a decent watch even if not 10 star, but this movie was just awful. The first 10 minutes are reasonably interesting, but then the plot just goes nowhere, and the execution is weak. As is often the case, the "victims" make many stupid mistakes and don't behave like one would expect in some of these situations (how many times can a victim incapacitate an attacker, but not finish the job, run away right away, only for the attacker to come back?). Really painful to watch, especially the last half where it got even worse. Boring, 2 star movie.

Beautifully filmed & Deeply thought out!!!
CoffinVideo198312 April 2019
This isn't just your standard shallow horror film. I did kind of go into it thinking that was what I would get; however, I was surprisingly drawn into a deep psychological thriller. The film is set in modern times and utilizes a lot of modern technology to really bring that point home; nevertheless, to fully grasp the film, you had to have grown up the era of road tripping America. I would almost describe it as Norman Bates being thrust into National Lampoons Vacation. In addition to the plot, the film is beautifully shot, makes use of some gorgeous lighting, and has a wonderful backdrop for all the carnage to take place. Overall I rate it 7 out of 10.

A Trippy Thriller About Trolls
chocolatelovecraft26 May 2019
The last thing this movie is predictable. Constant twists and turns leave you wondering where this will go next. The lead actors do a great job of capturing insanity on film. The movie starts slow and isn't perfect by any stretch but it's definitely worth a watch.

My only complaint is the ending. It felt a bit rushed and unnatural but it did match the overall theme of the movie.

April fools!
gregacers1 April 2022
A couple of April first jokes into it I realized I was watching on April fools day, and thought wouldn't it be fun if the last scene plunked us. It didn't, but I thought why can't some streamer platform (wouldn't work for theatres) release a movie on April 1 with a fake alt ending, then edit it out the next day, to give the audience first ever April fools experience in movie form.

Warning: Spoilers
There are better movies about cyber bullying. There is so much evidence that Chester did it, so why was Larry wanted? Additionally, how did Larry not die? AND THIS STUPID EAGLE NOISE WAS THE MOST EAR BLEEDING SOUND EVER!! I want my money back and I paid nothing.

Reading the Reviews and Movie is based on similar trolling.
jbell29 April 2019
Let's face it. We live in a social media driven world. Video killed the radio star, right? What is unique about the Into the Dark TV series is that each one is driven by our own idiosyncrasies and bringing real life topics hidden in the presentation of the horror genre. We are all critics. Now, given, this movie/monthly installation may not sit on everyone's favorite list; but it does point the fingers of how easy it is now in society to dictate what is good and what is bad. Yes, it is a slow beginning. And yes, it can jump around a lot. But it does challenge you to stop criticizing and start paying attention or you will miss key elements.

Don't bother
brucekirkland-298796 April 2019
Stupid, slow, not funny. It starts ok but soon goes down the path of really low hanging humor. There is a completely failed attempt to bring in some creepy. That's it

It's a no for me
york-0093212 June 2019
Not funny, not scary, not creative. Just a guy being brutalized by a psycho. Kinda reminds me of Christmas with my jerk brother-in-law who would be a total a**hole to everyone then tell them he was just kidding. A grating, grinding story. Acting and production were fine.

Terrible
betsypj17 September 2019
Absolutely awful, completely nonsensical. I'll sit through most bad horror and either shrug it off or try to find a laugh. This was just painfully bad. Don't believe the plot description. There are no practical jokes in this movie. The pacing was terrible -- long, drawn-out, and boring. The ending was tacked on with nothing to help tie the story together. Overall, ill conceived and a waste of time.

Not horror, but entertaining in a weird way
pieter_prins17 April 2020
I wouldn't call this horror as it isn't scary at all. Nevertheless I have to admit it kept me going without being bored. It's more dark humor. This Chester, such a typical guy with the wrong jokes and not understanding social distancing. And then this freak Larry, trolling all his frustration on Internet. They make a weird but funny combination. Don't look at it with a rational sense. There might be a hundred actions that don't make sense, but it doesn't matter. Cause of the bizarness of the location and characters you should be willing to forget about that. Just enjoy the dark humor and you will have some smiles and you start notice that despite of the clear B factor of this movie, you will be curious about how this idiotic stuff will end. Maybe take a joint, that might work very well for this movie.

This movie sucks
jordanog25 April 2019
I read the reviews here before watching it and somehow believed the "just wait" reviews instead of the "don't waste your time" reviews. This movie has no point to make and is just a recycled formula to make you kind of sad but maybe happy for a second when you give up on caring about the characters. I think I was better off before I saw it. Sorry Hulu. You suck at original programming

Dark humor ?
jbouresist10 June 2019
I don't get what's the problem with this movie. This is darker than may seem. This is not scary (though it has its moments) and this is not a comedy (though it has it's moments), it sits in the in-between disturbing and subversive place. Don't trust comments from people who expected to watch something similar to Scream or Scary movie...

Damn painful to watch
nicenic7772 April 2019
I'm a big fan of horror movies especially those produced by blumhouse. This garbage defies boundaries and is uncomfortable and unpleasant in its short run time. It does not provide scares, but rather miserably cringy scenes of overacting done to the fullest of a b budget movie.
