Very intriguing episode!

I'm a HUGE fan of SVU - mainly because of its twists and unpredictability, along with its "ripped from the headlines" stories - and 'Diss' delivers nicely on all cylinders. The reveal of events from Fin's past, finely woven into the "who done it" twists and turns makes this episode exceptional. Snoop Dogg was awesome, as was Orlando Jones and the delectable Amber Stevens West.

One thing I would've liked to know is how Andreas found out the details of what happened to his father, if as his mother said he wasn't even born yet? (If i missed it someone feel free to let me know). Otherwise, a great episode added to countless others. It's easy to see why SVU has lasted 24 seasons.

This was a fantastic episode, not only because of its unique, twisty case with celebrity guest stars, but also because of the excellent and much-needed character development for Fin, giving us backstory on his childhood and life before the SVU. While many were complaining that Snoop Dogg did not play a big part, I believe that his role was just adequate enough and helped move the case along nicely. The standout star was obviously Orlando Bloom.

Overall, an excellent episode that put the spotlight on Fin in the best way possible.

Well-written and well-acted

I actually enjoyed this episode. There were many twists and turns. Just when I thought I had the story figured out, it went in a different direction. Odafin Tutuola is one of my favorite characters on the show, and it was nice to see him spotlighted. I'm glad that Ice-T has remained on the show through all its cast changes. SVU is not one of those shows that overdoes the main characters personal drama. So, it's nice to get some insight into Fin's past.

Diss war

It was great to have some focus on Fin, who is underused in 'Law and Order: Special Victims Unit' too often. Or at least in mid-late-'Special Victims Unit' he was. But when he is given a prominent role, it is often well worth it and added a lot to him as a character, even if at times the rest of the story isn't anywhere near as good (a major example in a bad being "The Intimidation Game", but episodes like "Manhunt" and "Venom" are great representations of him).

Fin is handled very well here but "Diss" itself could have been quite a lot better as an episode itself. Is it a terrible episode? No it isn't, and anybody familiar with me will know that it takes a huge amount for me to call anything that as someone who has always aimed to be encouraging in ratings and expressions of opinions. Could "Diss" have been a lot better? Yes it definitely could have been, with a case that was a lot more involving consistently the episode could have been at least good.

"Diss" has good things. Ice-T has the right amount of steel and sympathetic edge. There is some great illuminating character development for Fin, nice to learn more about his background. The other acting standout is a formidable Orlando Jones.

The diss war stuff was intriguing and the episode did a good job showing the dark side of social media and how terrible fans can be. Visually it is well made, especially the intimate photography. It looks stylish and slick with a more refined look than when 'Special Victims Unit' first started all the way back in 1999, while maintaining the show's grit. The music doesn't overbear and is not overused.

On the other hand, a lot could have been done better. The case itself was rather thin, nothing new and was lacking in suspense. The pacing also felt over-stretched and the dialogue could have been tighter and had more personality.

Furthermore, the characters are cookie cutter stereotypes rather than real well fleshed out people. Snoop Dogg's role is too small and limited for him to make a strong impression and he came over as bland. The celebrity cast are not particularly well used, only Jones is used well, and the acting in general seems forced excepting Ice-T and Jones.

Rather mixed here on this episode. 5/10.

Still living uptown

A pop star is attacked in her own home and Amber Stevens West is left in a coma. Her husband Orlando Jones was performing at the Apollo Theater at the time so it wasn't him. Might be Jones's rap rival Snoop Dogg.

Ice-T has history going way back to when they were teens with Jones. Some very personal history. In fact the suspect that they do arrest is from out of left field and this assault stems from a decade or more in the past.

A most interesting if unsatisfactory ending from a criminal justice point of view.

Diss - 2022

Warning: Spoilers
It started off with promise, if they just followed the story of the pop star it could have been good.

Then it turned into something weird involving rap battles and trying to acknowledge Ice T's history in that field. Not a strong SVU at all.

Remaining Episodes Must Be About the Lawsuits and Suspensions Resulting from This Epsisode

Warning: Spoilers
Okay, this episode was a little dull. Characters mostly not paying attention to what was going on around them and not doing any real investigating. The worst part of the show though was the actions that they did take. SVU makes up a story of the crime that involved rape and wife beating with only thin evidence. i guess that's what they had to do to make it an SVU case. Turns out they were wrong but by then they had arrested the husband; big losing lawsuit to follow because the facts of the case already told them that the man was onstage during the crime. Then it turns out that one of the officers grew up with the husband and had lived with his family. Liv pointed out that this was a problem but did nothing. Everybody suspended for the rest of the season. Need to get writers who aren't in such a hurry to cash a paycheck. Maybe I should have rated this a 2 or 3. Skip this episode.
