Glam Up, Girl!!!
lavatch18 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
First, it was Kitty. And then, it was Kat. But even a name change could make no difference for a psycho who disrupts everyone's life in "My Killer Client" (a.k.a., "Killer in a Red Dress"). In high school, Kitty had a meltdown when Jake broke off their relationship. She showed up expecting him to take her to the prom, then went ballistic when she learned he had another date. Eventually, Kitty Kat was institutionalized.

Now, sheeeeeeee's baaaaaaaack!!!

Jake is preparing to marry his fiancée Christa, who works in a boutique and aspires to own her own store. She works closely with clients as "a personal shopper," glad-handing, brown-nosing, and getting to know them on a personal basis, then selling them a wardrobe. Christa is a very trusting person, always seeing the best side in people. But nothing has prepared her for a new client who is the Kitty Kat from hell.

Kitty Kat inherited a pharmaceutical fortune, and she spares no expense in her master plan to retake her man from Christa. Along the way, she kills two women, including Elise, the personal shopper who is ahead of her in line for Christa, as well as Christa's bestie, Lindsay.

It was especially the violence of the film and senseless deaths of the two women that made the viewing so unpleasant. Christa, for all her effervescent qualities, was foolish in allowing Kat to enter her life. She was warned about her poor boundaries by Lindsay, yet ignored the advice. Jake told her the unvarnished truth about his experience with the Kat, and she wouldn't listen to him. The saddest part was that Lindsay died trying to protect her friend. At the end of the film, it will ring a little hollow, when Jake tells Christa that Lindsay will be with them "in spirit" at their wedding. That's not much consolation for Lindsay!

Another shallow character was Jake's mother, who allowed Kat to hold a lavish fashion show for her at her foundation. The mother also unwittingly served to enable the psychopathic Kat in her fiendish scheme. It was not surprising that the garish red dress worn by Christa was stolen by Kat, so that she may superficially resemble the woman whom Jake loves. Kat just doesn't get it that she will not advance her life through her own narcissism.

In the denouement, the name of the new boutique of Christa is identified: "Glam Up, Girl." The name is a perfect description of the shallow nature of the store owner, who looks at the outer trappings of life without exploring the inner reality. The most admirable character in the film was Lindsay, who sadly departed this cinematic experience much too early and at far too young an age. She will be with us all in spirit.

How far would you go to get your dream man

Warning: Spoilers
Killer In Red is a 2018 thriller starring former Home And Away Star Tammin Surok,Allison Page and Greg Perrow.

The story follows Christa(Surok) who is engaged to Jake(Perrow),and she has her own fashion business. Things take a turn when she meets a shy young woman named Kat(Page) who just happens to be at her store and wants to change her style around.

However what Christa doesn't know is that Kat knows Christa's fiance Jake and has never gotten over him after he set her up at prom 16 odd years ago. Now Christa must try and protect herself and her man from this delusional woman.

Overall it was a far fetched thriller that is very predictable.

Formulaic Lifetime cliche
gustheaffen16 January 2020
How many times can you remake a story about a crazy woman pining over an old boyfriend befriending his new fling and recking havoc?! And of course ancillary friends may disappear that see through creepy charade. Nothing new here. Creep factor non existent as a 12 year old boy could physically over power the villain.

Pretty predictable poor picture

How's that for alliteration? Honestly, I can't say much of anything great about this film. About the only thing memorable and that kept catching my ear was the high-pitched squealing of the clothing hangers being moved back and forth in the store and how that grated on my senses...eeeyaaahhh!! I'm mostly writing this review in case user @haroot_azarian comes back here so they can see the results of my Shazam--the title song is: Be My City -by Laura Reznek.

I need to reevaluate my opinion about Lifetime
I_Ailurophile1 May 2021
I unironically love this film.

The screenplay is very fast-paced, wasting no time introducing all the principal characters, or forcing the plot to advance, while Lawrence Shragge's (admittedly fun) score flips on a dime from light and dreamy to somber and dramatic. Shanrah Wakefield's writing is undeniably cheesy and obvious, as we should expect from a movie like this. Director Lisa France leans hard into that flavor, clearly imparting to her cast to play up every line and moment with exaggerated gusto and flair. Dialogue is altogether ham-fisted.

Kat (Allison Paige) is so dreadfully careless and free-wheeling in her ploy, it's a miracle of Lifetime's making that the rest of the characters could be so oblivious and unquestioning. This especially goes for the protagonist, Krista (Tammin Sursok), who readily accepts Kat as her new Best Friend. The only one to hold any suspicion whatsoever - well, we know what happens to such characters in these stories.

Compliments to Dandi Dewey for her work in wardrobe, and makeup artist Cortney Heiser. Fashion plays no small part in the plot here, and every dress, blazer, and ensemble is so smartly considered. The cast looks outstanding.

And about the cast: I'm quite sure they are all skilled actors. France's guidance points them all in a particular direction, and they abide by it. Anyone viewing this is quick to dismiss the "bad acting." But the (over)acting, the movie as a whole, is specifically, purposefully over the top. We laugh at these things in B-movie horror flicks; what's so different here?

I readily admit that the whole reason I stumbled onto this movie to begin with and watched it is because I highly enjoyed Allison Paige's performance in 'The Lizzie Bennet Diaries.' Her turn here as Kat is decidedly different from her role as Gigi Darcy - and I love every moment. She clearly revels in every farfetched, overwrought moment of a character so dark and devious, and it's a thrill to watch.

'My killer client' is precisely the sort of movie audiences expect from Lifetime, and it's wild fun from start to finish. I'm not sure who the intended audience for this is, but it's such a delightful watch that I'd have a hard time not recommending it to just about anyone.

There are only two catches:

The first catch is that the stereotype of the "crazy girlfriend" is really just horrible, and even in a consciously preposterous tale like this, it's a bit tiresome.

The second catch is that I don't think 'My killer client' is intended to be a comedy.

Pathetic acting almost everyone! The only good thing was the opening credits song which I've heard on a few other marvista lmn movies! What annoys me is that I cannot find the song or the singer anywhere! If anyone knows please give me a shout!
