Warning: Spoilers
Adora is adorable, Catra is awesome, and their relationship is just too cute.

Adora runs into Glimmer and Bow in the Whispering Woods while looking for the sword that called to her. They just view her as an evil Horde soldier and manage to capture her.

Adora gets conflicted when she hears and sees what the Horde has been doing all this time while she's was being raised, trained, and indoctrinated by the Horde and Shadow Weaver, her surrogate mom.

Part 1 of "The Sword" is an absolute delight, we get an introduction to all of the character dynamics that we will come to love later on in the season, the backgrounds are nothing short of beautiful and it's seriously just damn fun.

Warning: Spoilers
Warning: contains spoilers for the content of only this episode.

Very representative of what would come shortly after: great character moments, not so great episode plots, at least for the first half of season one.

The only episode in which we see Adora working for the horde, it makes for some great catradora moments, but it is interrupted pretty quickly by Adora's dreams, that lead her to go searching for the sword, which also leads to her first encounter with Glimmer and Bow, enemies at first, friends by the end of the episode.

It all moves a hasty pace, we are introduced to the main two characters, Adora leaves the horde, she becomes She-Ra, finds Glimmer and Bow and befriends them in less than 22 minutes, all with a very jammed together plot.

There are still a lot of memorable moments (like Catra sleeping at Adora's feet hddhfjjdfjjd) and it's a very enjoyable experience overall, not to mention how it sets up the fantastic show that would come after it.

This first episode immediately pulled me into the series. Fantastic world-building, great set-up to the conflicts to come, and the images at the very beginning were simply breathtaking. Such a great start to a great show!

Not good, not at all.

I heard this show was bad, I have now confirmed that it is, in fact, a bad show, or a show that has a pretty bad start at least. The original She-Ra was a fun but silly 80's classic and seeing how the people making it have no respect for it its actually very discouraging.

The show has many flaws, from a mediocre and lackluster introduction to the characters, something that makes you care less about them, dull action scenes that feel shallow and needless and lets not forget its bad pacing that drags on for too long, but it also suffers from the usual tiresome exposition for this kind of fantasy show, perhaps among one of its worst qualities is the bland "worldbuilding" for a world thats incredibly uninteresting in itself. Feels like theres a good story in here somewhere, with a better script, better direction and editing this could have been something decent.

Among the few things that made this a bit watchable are some enjoyable moments of character interaction, however these are very derivative and could honestly feel better if the characters were better written. Not to mention the very phony and artificial conflict among the characters and another bad thing is the fact that theres no real room to sink into its universe or to be given a reason to care, the more I think about it, the more it falls apart.

Another thing it does wrong is making some of the most unappealing character designs in recent cartoon history. The animation could be fine (maybe a bit rough at points) but theres nothing interesting going on to support its competent animation.

Its no fun and everything about it falls short, a disappointment for sure if you are expecting a halfway decent fantasy show, its nothing like the original, which isnt bad but it lacks any heart and the talent to pull off the themes and subjects it wants to touch on, perhaps I am being to harsh but this is what I can see just from the first episode, I will continue watching to see if it gets better in any way, perhaps the second half of this two-parter can win me over.
