Mirror of society
amkomr19 August 2022
Apart from cringe screenplay another reason this movie didn't work on the box office is that it tried to show the caste system in India which is followed very much till date. Hindus being highly sensitive these days didn't take that well and are up in arms against bollywood.

Ranbir's return is a total misfire from the word go! An expensive disaster
tkmce200822 July 2022
I am speechless. As much as I love Hindi films, the track record for Hindi language films has been going downhill for a while now. One of the biggest contributors has been YRF - Yash Raj Films; back to back disasters. It's like they are living in the past and they are teleporting to the present to release the film. Shamshera; a film that has had a very patchy promotional run prior to release suffers big time due to it's dated script. Ranbir Kapoor's return after a 4 year hiatus is dated & excruciating.

Set in the 19th century (presumably in an alternate dimension), Shamshera is the title given to the leader of the Khameran people. 25 years after old man Shamshera (Ranbir) is stoned to death, his son Balli (also Ranbir) inherits the moniker of Shamshera and fights Sanjay Dutt's Daroga Singh to set his people free.

Shamshera is influenced by many films but what stands out is how difficult it is to sit through this film. In the department of atrocities inflicted on man by period feature films, Shamshera stands out (and you thought Samrat Prithviraj was bad). Vaani Kapoor atleast doesn't have a role as insignificant as Katrina Kaif's in ToH. Ranbir is charming but sadly charm doesn't make a film bearable. And it is high time that Sanjay Dutt dropped the evil guy persona. Honestly speaking it is getting tiring and irritating now.

The only saving grace is the film's soundtrack. It has some memorable original tracks and that is an achievement in itself in today's world.

Karan Malhotra helmed the remake of Agneepath, which was an epic but with Shamshera, it seems like the YRF bug bit him.

Shamshera feels more like a stop-gap release for Ranbir before his highly anticipated Brahmastra. But with the response Shamshera is receiving, I am not sure how audiences will receive Brahmastra. This is not the hate speaking (a lot of it going around against Hindi film actors and films), but Shamshera is genuinely bad. Ranbir's worst since Besharam.

Not upto expectations
gursimrans-0188122 July 2022
You expect alot from a ranbir kapoor film. He's agreat actor and he proves that in this film as well. The visual appeal of the film is also great but the only thing that doesn't allow the film to connect was the story. The story was bad but it had a lot of loose ends, cliches and some predictable outcomes. The first somehow manages to intrigue you but in the second half you will feel disconnected and uninterested somehow. This is not a great film i would say but it is also not a bad film. If you just want to watch and enjoy the film casually then this will surely entertain you but for a cinephile the experience might be a bit tedious.

Scam By Bigger corporates
mohinderchugh24 July 2022
IMDB must do some thing to figure out genuine reviews from fake reviews which now all big corporates are able the generate. By getting higher ratings for movie they can face their saves but will not be able to save the movie. So may 8 9 10 stars for such a movie will always raise the suspicious among genuine viewers.

IMDB please check if there is first time review by any account and than that account become inactive for a long time. This movie genuinely deserve 4 stars only.

Big Disappointment.....
shaikhirshad-4122322 July 2022
Waste Of Time, Waste Of Money, & lots of headache after watching SHAMSHERA. The Director has a good story but God knows what he is thinking while directing this movie. Movie is so stretched that I can't even talk about it. From the start itself the plots lose the connection and the audience can't even connect with the storyline. Songs are the worst part in the movie. After every 10 mins one song is there to irritate you. I mean why we have to be reliable on songs when you have a good story. Poor direction, worst screenplay intact sometimes dialogues also gets bored while watching the movie. Only Ranbir Kapoor performance was great & Vaani Kapoor dance performance was good. Rest cast are below average. Once again A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT from Yashraj.

Boring and Unbearable Bahubali of Poor People.
satishmeghani22 July 2022
A pure waste of money, time and acting. It's a very poor adaptation of several scenes from Bahubali and couple of other Hollywood movies. The movie has no story, screenplay or action.

Save your money, don't watch it.
ashok-dcm23 July 2022
Don't even watch it on any OTT, it will just waste your download limit. There is no story in this. Just scrambled scenes with poor CGI and poor acting. You will end up dozing off in the theatre or playing with your mobile.

Save your money and don't watch this!
sg6622 July 2022
From the start movie is disappointing, and then they deliberately making fun of Hinduism, I had to walk out from the movie, totally disgusting to watch. Better feed poor or your servants this weekend, rather than watch this epic fail from Bollywood once again!!!

dont believe all these one star reviews
nicetochatting27 July 2022
This one is genuine review. Went to pvr yesterday. The movie is gr8. Less use of VFX makes the movie realistic. Ranbir kapoor does a great job.

Also, the action is on par with rajamoulis movies like baahubali and RRR.

Movie doesn't deserve the hate it got.
sunnychoudhary-6535320 August 2022
Honest review, promise.

I didn't watch it in theatre but watched it on Prime Video release.

I couldn't see anything wrong with the acting, story and vfx.

Sure, the South Indian movie style action is more than evident but it also works right ? So I don't see why everyone is hating on it.

You can make out some similarities with KGF screenplay style but I think it's ok to cut some slack. If you start to nitpick every scene you'll find bits and pieces of most movies among each other.

Story was ok, screenplay was good, acting was great, action was great and vfx was fantastic for Bollywood standards.

I watched the crown looting scene multiple times, it was flawless. Loved every second of it.

Don't hate on it. Give it a go. It deserves a one time watch for sure.

Booring And Big Disappointed
MehdiRizvi-786722 July 2022
Waste of money.

Regretting going for the movie.

Plot is seems to be inspired from Bahuballi, Sholay, Badrinath (Telugu), Mad Max and of course Thugs.

Acting wise Ranbir has done a normal job like we do have better actors around its isn't like he was phenomenal. Just being honest.

Vaani is good with the songs and few scenes- wonder if costume designers really put in research work when they did the clothes. *Bikini* tops in the 17th century wow.

Sanju is trying hard did a decent job he isn't a strong actor to begin with except Vastav, Munnabhai..... Saurabh Shukla needs to get more roles his a gem.

Can we also talk about the cinematography and production design being below par. Music is ok considering YRF has such amazing background for worthwhile music.

I was so BORED yet another FLOP from YRF. Don't take it in the wrong way but I'm a genuine YRF/ Aditya fan but they have been disappointing me for the longest.

Worse than watching the paint dry
Soul_Snatcher22 July 2022
Not sure if YRF actually lost their marbles or are just interested in failed experimentation? This is an epic disaster, and it's not even a joke. The songs, acting, cringe and overpowering sudden turn of events which only happen in Bollywood is a terrible joke played on audiences.

Ranbir, Sanjay, Vani are all examples of a terribly embarrassing cast here. Move on Bollywood cringe, we wanna see what south has to offer more.

Terrible is an understatement
coolsonu-0122922 July 2022
Nothing seemed admirable to me except for Vaani's sensuality.

Ranbir will never be criticised by media coz of his privileged roots but he was absolutely terrible. So was Sanjay, a replica of all his negative roles.

No story and juvenile VFX.

One of the most boring films I have ever seen
ShriArunKumar22 July 2022
I went to theaters for the first time after Covid-19 and I'm hugely disappointed. There is nothing good about this. From direction, acting, music, everything is pathetic. Total waste of time and money.

I just saw it and have already forgotten it- there is not even one thing worth remembering about this.

An expensive joke by YRF for their audience.👎
Tejas_Vinda_AITS22 July 2022
Storyline is too boring.

This Movie is hving a decease of *Jaundice-Pilliya* (A yellow color Themed Movie) 🌕

Ranbir Kapoor is good as a goofy, silly persona but his transition to serious fighter *does not go well.* And The action scenes seem forced.

Vani Kapoor is just n eyeCandy.. she dsnt know acting.., uska acting se koi lena dena nai hai, aati hai ganna gati hai, challi jati hai..! Kapde ho ya na ho.., sab chalta hai..!!😁

Sanjay Dutt is forcing himself in the role perhaps trying to cash in on his recent negative appearances, but anyone can figure out it's not natural.

Music by mithooon - Not good, Jeee Huzoooor ....., kaheka huzooor akdum hi Khajooor hai..!!

Movie is a mix of Agneepath & Thugs of Hindostan...,, *Problem is* neither the movie is original nor they know .., how to copy.

Shamshera = 2nd Thugs of Hindostan - Boring

2 stars for the producers.., fr wasting too much of money fr this joke😄

An expensive joke by YRF for their audience.

What a supereme waste of time!!
pnutb22 July 2022
Watched it on a morning 12pm show. It's a mixture of KGF and Bahubali and western action movie. It's hard to swallow Ranbir as a action hero, dutt does whatever he can give. Felt relaxed when interval came, 2nd half was like I want to get out of theatre. Very very very boring, waste of money and time!!

Shamshera has Convenient Plot Twists and Threadbare Characters
shefali-5924422 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There is something acutely dispiriting about Shamshera. The film is set in 1871 against the backdrop of the British Raj, but the story isn't aiming for historical authenticity. This is the fantastical tale of a warrior tribe called Khameran, their subjugation and their battle for independence against the British and against a particularly sadistic daroga named Shuddh Singh. That a bloodthirsty, opportunistic megalomaniac should be called Shuddh is about as clever as this film gets.

According to press reports, Shamshera was made on a budget of Rs. 150 crore. The film was extensively shot in the Nubra Valley in Ladakh. The hard work and sweat of the team are apparent onscreen. In the production design of the fictitious kingdom of Kaza by Sumit Basu. In the scale and visuals captured by cinematographer Anay Goswamy - he artfully utilises the constantly-swirling dust, especially in the song "Fitoor". In the music and background score by composer Mithoon, who has created a fittingly rousing title song for his two heroes, Shamshera and his son Balli. And most of all in the performance of Ranbir Kapoor, who after 15 years in the business, takes on the mantle of being a larger-than-life hero. He has built his physique and mostly sheds the fumbling softness and vulnerability that made him such a winning performer in more layered roles in films like Barfi (2012), Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (2009) and Tamasha (2015). Shamshera needs him to wield an axe like Thor and rescue the downtrodden. And he delivers. His presence isn't instantly electrifying like Ranveer Singh's in Simmba (2018) or Ram Charan and NTR Jr in RRR (2022), but with acting chops and charisma, Ranbir Kapoor holds the frame.

It's a Mind Blowing Film
ambikas-5713622 July 2022
This film is created a period with such authenticity that it almost feels like you're not watching the film, its a reality.

Ranbir Kapoor has impressed his fans and the audiences in general with his class apart performance.

Sanjay Dutt as Shudh Singh manages to scare you.

Vaani Kapoor is scintillating in the film, and is adding the charm. Its a feast to the eyes, and the ears with such breathtaking visuals and euphonious sound effects.

Cinematic Brilliance with ups and downs
pal-gandharv20 August 2022
Shamshera - 7.1/10 An honest and unbiased review without getting influenced from any ideology, religion, caste etc. That we today are trammeled in. I wish I could watch this movie in the theatre. Such great visuals to eyes. The vibrant yet so somber colors with great cinematography that justifies this big budget movie with some mindblowing scenes. This cinematic experience is what the audience misses on OTT platforms, hope the technology will resolve this as well in a longer run. Shamshera is a bold, unapologetic, period drama that revolves around the Khameran tribe who are lower in castes and shown as pirates/rebels. The set was just fantastic which gave the fictional characteristic that goes more in the lines of celestial bodies. Different sets for each juncture in this average story by keeping the era and the embellishment of tribes of that time were captivating and enough to enjoy this cinematic brilliance. Brilliant job done by Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt both. The story was pretty weak and the screenplay seemed too far stretched. The songs and music were totally a turn off that don't vindicate the parallel explanation of the story that's normally done these days through the background score. We cannot get Anirudh in all movies but music was not that great, simply. It'll straight up give you the flavor and feel of Bahubali and RRR. To be honest, if this was a South movie, the audience would love it because the bias Bollywood has to face these days takes away good films most of the times from the audience. I thank OTT that today, each movie has a fair chance to prove itself again. One more mention about the peotic display of dialogues would sound unnecessary and add no value to the movie in my opinion. The first 30 minutes of the movie test the patience of the audience and it goes smooth thereafter and will keep you on your toes till the end, good creation of suspense. It has ups and downs that will make the audience feel bored but no down for me was too long to discontinue the movie. For me: Cinematography - 4.5/5 Screenplay - 2.5/10 Background score - 1.5/5 Acting of the cast - 3.5/5 Dialogues - 2.5/5 Direction - 3.5/5 Costumes - 4/5.

Bad copy of different English and Hindi films
rahulvaidya05522 July 2022
The plot and storyline are not captivating at all. The action scenes look like they have been lifted from different films and just added together without making any sense. Ranbir has lost his on screen persona and charm that he once had. Bollywood has a problem with giving women better roles and lines. Vaani is just there in the film as a beautiful prop in the movie. A big studio that has a lot of money and then they produce such poor content and expect people to pay inflated ticket prices. This doesn't look like a period action film at all but some kind of joke made by the movie makers on their audience.

I can't really comprehend all this hate!
SoumikBanerjee199622 August 2022
Wow! I didn't expect this! What a ride, needless to say, it exceeded all my expectations. This is an exhilarating tale of vengeance that had every possible perk up its sleeve! Remarkable visuals, humongous sets, some commendable performances, and on top of all; a scintillating soundtrack that in my opinion elevated both its quality and assertiveness to a whole new level!

Regardless, like any other commercially viable venture; there were some miscalculations from their end! For instance, the Screenplay gets hindered in the second act, which wouldn't have bothered me, had the first act wasn't as eventful and as enlivening as it turned out to be. Moreover, some characters were deprived of the screentime they were entitled to (the likes of Saurabh Shukla, and Ronit Roy).

And last but not the least; I have had some reservations about the fundamental structure of this anecdote. Without giving anything away, let's just say, they could have easily employed those flashbacks and the older 'timeline' in a more proficient way just by making nominal adjustments & modifications to their respective positioning & placements. Those of you who have seen the film will know exactly what I'm trying to imply! This specific script required non-linearity.

But then again comes the controversies, and I yet again don't seem to wrap my head around the hostility, the kind of hatred around the film! To me, it looks like some people always tend to come up with blatant justifications that could propagate their agendas and their ideologies.

Shortly after Shamshera'a nationwide release, I witnessed a section of the audience as well as some of the critics, debating and expressing their discontent against the movie as some of its elements had supposedly hurt the feelings of their personal beliefs and sentiments. Now, neither I can say anything on behalf of those viewers nor do I want to be mean or something but here I strongly disapprove of their critique.

While it's true that the film had some problems but not a single sequence in any shape or form came off as contemptuous, hurtful or offensive! It's nothing but a simple revenge saga, with the time of British regime as its backdrop, that's it. Other than the historians or the specialists in this field; Nobody, and I repeat nobody could vouch for the story's credibility; thus, it would be much wiser for us to treat it as it should be, i.e. A medium of art, a cinema rather than a well-researched documentary.

A first time attempt for Ranbir Kapoor, a tough and rugged look and character. Must admit,

Pathetic and really disappointing
nitinkumar-verma22 July 2022
Big banner, overhyped actor highly paid promotions couldn't guarantee to fool majority of audience and that too when non-hindi films are setting ticket windows on fire. Yes, this over acted stint is not going to survive or recover what's spent during making.

Better watch our southern director's portrayals on big screens they provide a lot more than story.
