True Crime Fan Fiction Shouldn't Be a Thing
Doc_Blue18 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
And that's exactly what this is, combining a couple different bs theories. This shouldn't be seen, so I'm just going to spoil everything and explain why it's so wrong.

The film (and it pains me to even call it a film), depicts Glen Rogers as a man with a dissociated identity named Charlie that compels him to kill people. He paints Nicole's condo, has sex with her, develops a bloodlust for her, and then bumps into OJ shortly before the murders take place.

The real Glen Rogers once claimed to have killed Nicole Brown, but he has also claimed to have killed around 70 women while evidence has only been found regarding a few. Regardless of what his moron brother says, investigators have confirmed that he was not in a location at the time where he could have been the murderer of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman.

Now Charlie is the name of OJ's non-existent friend that assists him with the murder in the hypothetical chapter of the book If I Did It. The book never got published, but the entire thing is online. I've read that chapter and it depicts a friend of OJ's named Charlie driving over to his place to tell him about Nicole and Faye Resnick's behavior, the two going over to Bundy together to check things out, and Charlie handing him the knife right before the murders.

OJ was asked about this chapter of the book in an interview and he summarized what it says. At the end of the film, this idiot director shows brief clips of it, taken completely out of context, to make it look like the bs you just saw is supported.

On top of how ridiculous and offensive this all is, the film is also horribly made on every basic technical level. And while there was obviously zero care given regarding being factual, I was still amazed with how off everything was. Felt like the director was the one person who didn't follow the case. The condo looks nothing like the real condo aside from having a gated door, her dog isn't even the right breed, it drastically exaggerates how much of a friendship her and Goldman had, and I could go on forever but it's not worth it. Do not watch this.

Ouch, that hurt!
stephenw-3018021 January 2020
Ok, so I will try to keep this short and to the point.

This film tries hard to take it self seriously but fails on so many levels. The story is told from the perspectives of NBS (not sure how this is possible seeing as she was murdered) and some fantasy about an alternative explanation regarding the true killer. (?)

The narrative is so weak and far reaching that you are asked to suspend belief and actually consider this as the actual "true story" of the horrible murders. Despite a few noteworthy names in this stinker (the reappearance of Nick Stahl, to name one) nothing could have helped the awful film.

Such rubbish only serves to diminishe the terrible truth about, what many consider, one of the most notorious murders in American history. Everyone on the planet knows who committed the crime. The attempt to offer up an alternative perspective is sad and desperate.

Don't waste your time.

1 star movie but +1 star for the "spectacle" of the subject.
Charlesc-526 December 2019
As a follower of this case, I regretted watching this.

A film which will get views based upon the doubts it will try to stir up. Such sensationalism is a well worn Hollywood movie practice including many of the "controversial" Michael Douglas movies, but this lands more like William Castle.

The premise as is detailed in the trailer, is that the famous murders that took place June 12, 2004 were in fact committed by a serial killer, not OJ Simpson. This possibility of what this film shows was previously raised on CNN but it simply has never been taken seriously elsewhere.

IMO, this film would have been best done as some kind of "documentary" with licensed images, period TV news video and headlines of the time to pose the possibilities that this presents.

The "docudrama" format, esp THIS one, IMO, fails to engage the viewer while presenting at times what appears to be at times a low budget slasher film. Either the director doesn't seem to want the audience to emphasize with the victims or is unable to.

Mena Suvari's performance lacks depth between simply switching from twitchy to vapid. It was real missed opportunity for Suvari who has managed to deliver in other roles. But Nick Stahl rises above expectations. My biggest disappointment in any of these portrayals was the superficial portrayal of Ron Goldman. OJ's character is shown only briefly and the movie does not make any effort of showing him as empathic, however, the detached portrait of the victims left a bad taste in my mouth.

MAJOR PROBLEMS.

Because the things I will list below aren't in the movie they are not "spoilers".

My biggest problem is that the film makes no effort in addressing the elephants in the room. For the premise of this film to be true, then one has to accept a whole list of things.

I'll start with the big one. During the trial the Simpson defense searched for every possible alternative.

If even PART of the information presented in this film were known at the time, Simpson's defense team would have been all over it. They were not. There was ZERO mention of it at or away from the trial (on the media).

To me, it is unbelievable that the "dream team" would have ignored the information presented in this film had it stood up to any scrutiny. I'm *sure* the house *next door* was checked out at the time.

Both OJ and the "dream team" *did* mention drug dealers along with graphic descriptions of their methods both during the trial and on camera.

But that theory is not what *this* film is about. OJ Simpson frequently referred to drug dealers after the trial but no one until now was there ever a extended mention of the things that this movie shows.

Then... OJ wrote a book "If I Did It" (sic). *That* would have been a good place to have presented what's in his movie... only it was not.

Then there is, well, practically everything else that one must ask, "so if this is what happened, then why....?"

Like the timing of the attack with OJ's departure to Chicago. Was that just coincidence? That's not proof of his guilt but that was some coincidence if this movie was true. Then there's the bloody finger. Then the finding of bloody glove, the loud banging on Kato's air conditioner (which remains a mystery of logic to me), the trail of victims blood through his house. Were all these things just coincidences?

I'm not even talking about OJ's history of violence. I will agree that there is a big difference between being a moody wife beater and a premeditated murderer but it's not as if this was out of the blue.

The forensic dept in LA may have been sloppy, but could the gang that couldn't handle their samples as the textbook says really pull off such a conspiracy?

Then the famous Bronco chase. Everyone has something to hide and I could see him panicking, however, let's remember that to most people, he was going to kill himself when that truck stopped. But if not that, then you have a disguise and a failed getaway.

There is no doubt that questions remain unanswered, but this is just too "out there" for this "trial of the century" viewer to be satisfied with.

The ESPN documentary "Made in America" to me is definitive and for a docu-drama mini-series, "The People v. O. J. Simpson" offered a high level of accuracy and surprisingly good performances.

I've seen other presentations proposing others (ones suggesting Al Cowlings, Jason Simpson and Ron Shipp being the real murderers), but among all of these, this ranks the lowest.

TRASH

Completely fictional, trash. Bad acting. Bad directing. I bet if you did some digging you would find OJ was the financial backer. Calling this movie trash is actually an insult to trash.

Can it be that bad?
ghgaskins12 May 2020
Yes. It's that bad. Mena Suvari is the Exec Producer for this movie and I wonder where she received funding. This movie is not even worthy of a Lifetime showing. Terrible story, Terrible script, Terrible acting, and Terrible decision of mine to watch. I should have known better. Mena hasn't been in a good movie since American Beauty and it's amazing she's still around.

Wow what a wonderful film
ethanhall200430 January 2020
Words can't describe how much of a revolting experience this was. This is the worst thing i've ever had the displeasure of calling a film. It's more of a cancer. Not only is it completely fictional and disrespectful, but it's so drawn out and the acting is simply bad. If a genie gave me three wishes one would be to give me my 1 hour and 22 mins back, the 2nd would be to give me money back, and the third would be infinite wishes, all of which i would use to destroy every copy and evidence that this "movie" ever existed. Jesus. What a god-awful experience. I need to take a shower after sitting through that. I feel dirty. Do yourself a favor, and DONT WATCH IT. Use that time for something productive, like learning guitar, or how to write a good script.

Inappropriate and Insulting
Neon_Gold17 June 2020
Once again this director has made another movie about a real life tragedy. Thank god he didn't throw supernatural elements in this time.

This movie flat out lies about what happened in Nicole's life just to create a narrative. And I totally get this because a movie needs a narrative to work. He obviously thought the real story was boring or something so he just threw in random things to pad the story out. He must have been like "well we know Nicole was a person and we know she died so we have a beginning and an end just fill in the middle with information from articles on Wikipedia".

I imagine her family are pretty mad at this movie. With reason.

I just don't get why you would make another explorative movie like this after the car crash reaction that "haunting of Sharon Tate" got.

Also the acting is a disaster all around. The writing is just boring. The worst line was, referring to Bruce Jenner, something like "Bruce is at some fund raiser...oh that must be a drag". I bet the writer thought he stuck gold with that line. Which is again insulting and not funny.

I hope this is the last of this type of movie he makes because i imagine it must be hard for the family to watch.

Why did u have to put Nicoles name to this? You should have just made it an independent film. OJ is so evidently and obviously guilty of these murders. What an insult to the two deceased and their families. Also what a crap actress cast as Nicole. Mena suvari really?

I wish this couold have a Zero rating for this fan fiction
KikyNez13 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Well, this is the third movie of this director "inspired on true events" that is far from all factual recolections.

I was warned but I had decided to give it the benefit of the doubt, who knows? it could be good or at least could have technical aspects that could save the movie. It haven't none. It wasn't good... at all. It doesn't have technical values to save this from the pile of stink it is. And I am so sorry for all people who worked on it behind cameras (except the director) they were doing their job to put food on their tables.

How Suvari, Stahl and Manning are in a trash like this? They are even o over or under acted on this, like they were just waiting to take the money for their work and go away (and maybe die from boredom)

I strongly believe that this director is very keen of fan fiction and if he could just write this garbage with no name or relations on real events, maybe and just maybe this could work.

Taking direction on crazy theories and dumb ideas doesn't plant a doubt on the case.

This man is trying to make believe that victims were to fault on their death (like he did on his take on Sharon Tate).

If there could be a doubt to make feel O.J is innocent it's not in this garbage of a pseudo fan fiction movie.

I don't usually do bad reviews, but this deserved my full attention.

I haven't hated a movie so bad as I do hate this one.

ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL

Worst movie based on a True Crime EVER
jwrabbey-9467427 December 2019
OK, first the only way to watch this movie is fast forward. Skip the parts of unsubstantiated script writing. Suspend your ability to actually think logically and get either really drunk or stoned. Otherwise you will be left going completely and totally bonkers.

The actors are bad, the script is worst and the whole premise is trash. Not one thread of actual fact-based evidence is presented.

A terrible was of both my time and the productions companies money.

Even O.J. should be ashamed of this make believe.

A fearless take on a Polarizing moment in time
sami-wilson29 January 2020
History is written by those who are brave enough to speak it, whether true or false is up to the people who learn it to decide. This movie is an unexplored telling based on unproven accounts given by some who may be telling their truth or may be completely full of crap. It does NOT claim Oj's innocence contrary to what many reviews say. It does however give a slightly different take on what some believe to be true. Will it change the popular opinion? No. What it is, is a fictional telling of a tragedy INSPIRED by true events in a "What if?" scenario based on an alternative account. Every "Based on/Inspired by" movie is an exploitation of the truth however no historical movie can ever be 100% truth or fact because no persons account can ever be 100% accurate and every persons first hand account will always be a biased retelling of their own "facts" That being said I found the movie to be interesting and thought provoking. I found it entertaining and thought all involved did their best to give an honest performance in what they had to know would be a highly criticized movie. Does this movie deserve 10 stars? maybe, maybe not. Does it merit the negative response it has received? absolutely not. The movie industry is fickle at best and it does not go unnoticed that some get away with fabricating truth and twisting plots to suit their own narratives while others are demonized for it. Many popular movie makers have taken similar liberties with the retelling of a story to great acclaim while others are told they have no right to do the same. I have read many other reviews on this movie after watching it and truly believe many of those "reviewers" must not have watched the movie as a whole or are simply are vomiting up a negative response because they are against the subject matter. Not everyone will like this movie, everyone's tastes are different but if you open your mind and watch this movie with the knowledge that it is not 100% fact but a story of "What if?" written by Michael Arter and directed by Dan Farrands as a cinema nod to the horror movies we all love, then like me you might find this movie interesting, thought provoking and entertaining. If Agnes Bruckner's portrayal of Kris Jenner is even remotely accurate to the real Kris Jenner, then as a person who does not keep up with the Kardashian's I have a whole new respect for her as a person and Agnes Bruckner deserves a giant pat on the back. I may actually give the show a chance.

Not THAT bad.
Sir_watch_alot31 January 2020
This is not the worst movie ever. I have seen two movies that were worse. Today! Maybe it's not correct as in how everything happened. But nobody really knows what happened so... Mena Suvari is believable as a woman who is scared. I like her. Just watch. Not te be informed or convinced. Just to be entertained.

Disrespectful, bad acting, writing, and pure trash.
lauriebessler22 September 2020
I seen this movie advertised, even after wondering how it could be seen thru her eyes, as she never left notes of those days, a stranger named Glen around, or mentioned him to anyone. She did mention to friends, family and cops her fear of her ex.

You keep thinking it will get better. Nope dismiss that wish. It only gets worse. Total disrespect to their lives, brutal deaths, and memories. It was a waste of film, they should have burned this.

If this serial killer was involved police would have known, defense surely would have known etc.

Goldman and Brown families: I am so sorry they created more hurt, and pain for you. I thought it would be fact based, or never would have helped them make money off your tragedy. If you can sue please do it. They should not be allowed to trash your loved ones to make a quick buck, and get away with it. Its obvious who was behind it, keeping his name clear tho.

Anyone, with any sort of brain knows the killer. The one acquitted due to a bias jury, defenses games and tactics, money, fame ,race ,the list goes on as u well know. The sick man even left the kids asleep upstairs, to find their moms body. Doesn't get much lower than that. There was, and is plenty of evidence of his past domestic violence with Nicole. Yet he was convicted once, got community service. He had some type golf charity allowed as community service total bull.

The system failed her, even in the end. Ron bravely fought to save her. Why was the abuser not put away, done something with, in a country where all are supposed to be equal, the rich never are held accountable. He wrote if I did it as a slap in the face, after acquitted, due double jeopardy, he could scream it from rooftops.

The DNA doesn't lie, he was there, cut on his finger, their blood on and in bronco, as well as on his socks, and inside his home. Defense maybe explain Nicole's, she used to live there , being in the home. When did Ron Goldman drop by and bleed ?

Found guilty in civil court, he ran to Florida, so his money would be untouchable. Never got a penny, the only punishment left. That's true scum. Used kids as pawns to her family to be quiet.

All of it makes my skin crawl. Her ignored cries for help, because he was rich and famous. The jury pushing black power fist pumps, after the acquittal. Their death, and letting the killer walk, was one disgusting payback for wrongs of the past, neither Ron nor Nicole had any part of.

Ruining a cops career trying to use words for a play as motive for a set up total bs. He had zero reason, as comes to the victims.

I will never forget as I , with the rest of a shocked world, heard not guilty. Was a moment sealed in my mind, as the day I lost faith in our justice system.

Save yourself time, and energy. Don't pay them to trash victims. Watch a fact based documentary, just don't watch this.

sfsugs-7877514 October 2020
I don't understand how a film this bad gets made. If the director ever reads this, without trying to sound mean, you should consider doing something else. It's staggering how terrible your film is and how awful the performances are. I mean, it might possibly be the worst film ever made. It has nothing going for it.

sunshinedaydreamz29 December 2019
This crap is obviously backed somewhere down the line by OJ. That murderer got away with the crime of the century. One question...why did he run? Only guilty people run from the law. He did it, and blaming this murder on the Casanova killer is like saying Jeffery Dahmer didn't eat people.... Pure fiction. If you watch it as fiction then fine. But don't be naïve and think this is anywhere near the truth. I feel for the Simpson, and Goldman families to have to deal with this BS again and again and again.

Awful Awful
iamkeysersoze-1322814 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Almost half a month in and i think we might have found our winner for worst film of 2020. I would be shocked otherwise. This film is awful and very disrespectful to the actual events which happened in 1994. It's worse than The Haunting of Sharon Tate.

Not a single about the film is good. It's 85 minutes long and feels like filler. There is nothing coherent or interesting about this excuse of a film. Nothing about this film is memorable and the execution of the story is beyond awful and completely unreal. It would have worked better as a documentary.

All of the actors attempting at actor are awful. The whole film feels like a secondary school play with no talent and a script which feels like it was put together in 5 minutes. There is no depth and everyone feels so unrealistic in there roles compared to ACS season 1.

It is one of the worst films of all time. Avoid it

Already my worst movie of 2020!
BandSAboutMovies3 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Well, let's put it this way. I won't have to go much further to find the worst movie I've seen this year.

Somehow, David Farrands went from writing Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers and documentaries on things like Amityville and Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th and directing Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy to basically creating - to quote my friend Don Guarisco - "appalling fan-fiction movies inspired by real murders." This follows up his 2019 film The Haunting of Sharon Tate, which had Hilary Duff as Sharon.

Here, Nicole Brown is played by Mena Suvari. Yes, Mena Suvari, who was once in films like American Pie, American Beauty and, umm, The Rage: Carrie 2. Even that last film is better than this. Imagine that sentence. Read it over again. Let that wash over you.

Taryn Manning, yes the same one who was in the band Boomkat and 8 Mile, she's Faye Resnick who spends most of the movie doing blow and trying to make out with Nicole, as if no one is still alive and can sue everyone involved with this movie.

Agnes Bruckner, who was Anna Nicole in the movie called Anna Nicole, is Kris Kardashian. There's also a guy - Trent Walker if you care - who plays Bruce Jenner and he looks nothing like him. His absence in one scene is referred to as "such a drag." That's the level of this film.

At one point, Nick Stahl was John Connor and the Yellow Bard in Sin City, but here he's Glen Rogers, the Casanova Killer and the Cross Country Killer who was rumored to have killed Nicole in the 2012 documentary My Brother the Serial Killer. Rogers' brother Clay claimed that the suspect had met Nicole and was ready to take her down, claiming he was hired by O.J. Simpson to break into her home and steal everything he could, before telling her that, "You may have to kill the (word for a female dog so I can get this past Amazon filters when I post the review)."

Drew Roy, who was Jessie on Hannah Montana, is Ron Goldman. Bianca Brigitte VanDamme (yes, it's his daughter) is Detective Leigh. Larry Zerner - yes, Shelly from Friday the 13th: Part III is here. And Gene Freeman, who was in Crossbreed, is O.J., who is mainly a ghost hovering over the film.

Speaking of ghosts, there's an entire section of the film where Nicole is raised from her bed and begins getting tossed all over it like she's Barbara Hershey in The Entity. I'm not making any of this up. This fact alone made me love what I had been hating up until this point.

I mean, how did this actually get made? How did Mena Suvari even get the gumption to ask for an executive producer credit on this mess? Why did I watch it? Why am I spending so much time writing about it now instead of going to bed?

So many questions!

O.J. note 1: The night of the Bronco chase, I was at a bar called Robert's Roadside Inn and I've never heard such a rowdy bar get so quiet so fast. Seriously, some generations get the Kennedy Assassination and mine got O.J. and Al Cowlings in a slow-motion chase.

O.J. note 2: My theory is that Nicole and Ron were killed by a Predator, which are real creatures and our government created the movies as disinformation so that we wouldn't know the terrors that exist in space. As out TV signals move slower into deep space, the Predators were looking for the ultimate human to hunt. And if you watched mid-70's football, the perfect human male was probably O.J. Simpson. By the time they got to his house, he was long moved out and Nicole and Ron played the price. My theory, by the way, is not as insane as this movie.

Surprisingly Interesting!
dntlew12 January 2020
I found it to be very interesting even though it wasn't a "big budget" film, it's very refreshing to see another theory that doesn't fit the mainstream media narrative. We all know that the "O.J. Simpson Did It" industry is a muli-million dollar one so of course this movie won't be promoted as it deserves to be. I liked the cast although I do feel they could've found a better O.J. Simpson lookalike actor. I give the movie 4/5 stars mainly for effort and offering another take on the murder of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman. Serial killer Glen Rogers SHOULD be investigated over their murders but we all know that this system won't allow it. I always felt their killings were definitely a hit of some sort possibly mob/drug related or a serial killer like Rogers committed the crime.
