I gave a 9, but feel an 8.5 would be most appropriate if we could do half stars
animegurutb24 November 2020
Let me begin off by saying I recently started watching Fate a few months ago with Fate Stay Night. I'm far from the most hardcore Fate fan, however I have enjoyed my experience lately...and plan to get into Fate Grand Order soon. With that said, here is my review.

  • Sound: I did not come in expecting the most impactful portion of the movie being the sound. The sound effects were amazing throughout (a bit loud, but amazing nonetheless). The MUSIC was phenomenal!!! I'm talking about music throughout almost the ENTIRE film that perfectly captures the mood. When I say the ENTIRE film...I'm only slightly exaggerating...at least 80% of the scenes were accompanied by an OST.

  • Animation: There isn't much to say here. We all knew what Ufotable would do with a movie budget and full production cycle. It's amazing. The fights were beautiful. There are a lot of flashes of rainbow colored light, but it doesn't take anything away from the choreography. If anything it only adds to the drama. Even when everyone was standing around talking it was beautiful.

  • Story: This might be the weakest part of the movie to me...and this is why I emphasized before the review that I have limited experience in the Fate universe. I'm not fully engaged with the visual novel, so there were quite a few moments when I did not understand what was happening, and they didn't really explain it. The pacing here was breakneck. The movie is two hours long, but it doesn't feel like two hours at all. It felt more like an hour. I'm assuming they made this with visual novel readers in mind, and didn't want to over explain what that audience already knows...however that is a weak point if I judge this film strictly on its own merit.

  • Waifus: All my waifus looked amazing out there. Rider, Sakura, Rin...the art style allowed them all to shine in their own ways. I feel like the movie did a good job touching of the relationship between the three. I wish I could have seen more of Saber, but I understand why I didn't. She wasn't the focus of the film.

  • Overall I enjoyed the movie, and would definitely purchase the Blu Ray for it.

Barely made it to the end in one piece...

I am a big fan of the series. Let me just say, if you do not know what this series is about, there is no way you will understand what this movie is talking about.

That said, this last installment was not consistent with previous two. I think what has happened is that they started off very well, how ever half way through making the third movie they realised "oh shit, at this rate we will never finish the story with only three movies..."then they cut out all the little details which would really flesh the story out a lot more.

This is the over all feel I had when I walked out of the theatre, I could really appreciate what they were trying to do and the embedded message of it. However it had too many compromises and the whole thing feels wrinkled and uneven. Hopefully there would be a director's cut version of it.

As a fan, was it a master piece that I wanted? No, not by a long shot. But, was it grand and enjoyable? Hell yeah.

An epic an extremely satisfying finale
jace-rynearson1 June 2021
I had been waiting for this third movie for quite a long time especially through the delay, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Fate/Zero brought us an incredibly intriguing story full of despair, tragedy, and happiness above all, but it left plenty of loose ends to build up the story for Fate/stay night. Unlimited Blade Works did well solving plenty of those loose ends, but that's why the series had several different storylines. Essentially, what UBW did right, Heaven's Feel did even MORE right.

Now, with this movie, just about every question anyone had is answered and answered thoroughly. And we finally get a bit of happiness compared to all the tragedy we had been previously accustomed to.

This is a movie that will keep you at the edge of your seat, waiting to know what happens next, and crying tears of sorrow in some parts, and tears of joy in most, especially the ending.

All the story bits aside, this is an exceptionally well done anime movie. It's no studio Ghibli, but what can be? It's animation is breathtaking, as expected of ufotable, as is the sound design and everything else.

But of course, what really makes this movie work for me is the exceptional story. If you haven't watched this trilogy or series, do yourself a favor and enjoy what is easily one of the most satisfying finales to a storyline that has been going on for over 10 years.

A sequel to end it all
daverman30 December 2020
Honestly, I feel that the critiques in some of these reviews are legitimately unjustified. Let me preface by saying that from a technical aspect, this movie is head and shoulders above the first two movies. There generally are no hard cuts for scenes, the storyboard for the film is much more straightforward and it naturally answers most questions(with the exception of the ending).

With that out of the way, I will say that this film cannot and should not be judged as just a single piece of work but as a culmination for ALL of Ufotable's Fate works. What this story tries to show and allude to can only ever be appreciated if looked as a sequel because that is the clear intention. If someone can't necessarily remember plot elements tied to previous works like Unlimited Blade Works or Fate/Zero, I don't think the fault is placed on this movie. It expects its viewers to know the story it tries to tell. It wants to treat them competently and read into subtext. As for people that simply want a highlight action reel, this movie also gives them what they want in spades. This is a sequel to end it all and it'll give a large spectrum of fans at least a few things to love. A masterpiece in my eyes.

An incredible looking passable adaptation missing a lot of key details from the novel.
ACollegeStudent4 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Rating: 7.9

VN Route Rating: 8.8

The Visual Novel Heavens Feel is the strongest Fate route by far. So many revelations and plot points that were left ambiguous in other routes got explained here. It was fast-paced, unpredictable, horrific, and ended with little to no copouts. Although there were some plot armour moments: ex shirou still being able to fight berserker after being clobbered by berserker and Kotomine showing up at the end despite getting his heart crushed by Sakura. Unlike in UBW Shirou's character, dev here was massive. It was a great conclusion to the routes.

Unlike UBW the anime didn't make any bad changes, the only flaw is that they removed a lot of explanations and monologues like the fact that kotomoine has an artificial heart, that shirou at the end is a doll that houses Shirou's soul. They also didn't clearly explain that shirou's mind was being destroyed, and they didn't directly explain that Shirou projected the gem sword, etc. I didn't like the chorus that played in the fights it felt generic, but the fights and animation were incredible. Another passable adaptation.

Perfect closure
martin_merelesc3 June 2022
What a satisfying conclusion to the HF series. Even though they left out a few things from VN, the fights were some of the best represented to date. This movie was a perfect reward coming from a VN fan.

common sense is often sacrificed for artistry
mjfhhh26 November 2020
In a year when big movie projects are either delayed or stopped indefinitely the third film from Japanese anime franchise FATE/STAY NIGHT sneakily got into movie theatres. I only understood what a big deal this release was when I couldn't buy a ticket, every session sold out for ten days straight.

The anime film revolves around teenagers playing the deadly "battle royal" game, where the last one standing will win the Holy Grail and have their wish fulfilled. Think HUNGER GAMES with dark magic, with some high school romance and Dragon Ballz battles, and you will get what the FATE franchise is about. The film reviewed here is the third in the trilogy called HEAVEN'S FEEL, and you would have to see at least the original tv show and both previous theatrical movies to understand what's going on.

HEAVEN'S FEEL III is loud, colourful and even thought provoking entertainment, however I found its rather simplistic story very heavy on unnecessary details that you won't get if you don't remember them from the other movies and TV shows.

This one is for the fans! For non aficionados it's impossible to follow up on every thread of information given, and I was often at a loss, even though I had seen the minimum requirement to understand it.

Hearing the fans talking after the film, it was clear they got what they wanted. With its huge budget, HEAVEN'S FEEL has an indie production air about it, as common sense is often sacrificed for artistry. The animation here is mind blowing and if anything it's the reason to see the film. The soundtrack from veteran anime composer Yuki Kajiura is a masterpiece (the album unfortunately is unavailable on Spotify). All in all HEAVEN'S FEEL III can be quite an experience but to those exposed to the franchise for the first time it will look like an incomprehensible mess.

What a way to end the Trilogy
msupavit5 March 2024
Fate Stay Night's Heaven Feel 3 is a Japanese animation produced by ufotable. This is part 3 and a sequel to Heaven Feel 1 and 2. The plot of this trilogy is quite confusing for the people who try to start watching as this movie is one timeline of the Fate universe. Fate series has many storylines to be explained, but one of the most popular is Fate Stay Night from the old visual novel produced in late 2000. Fate Stay Night consists of 3 different routes: Original/Unlimited Blade which is an anime series and Heaven's Feel which has been made the latest as a 3 movies. The setting of this movie is the present world where there is a group of people who can use magic and are divided into families. Each of the families will then send 1 representative who can summon a servant (Who is a famous hero from the past) to fight in a Holy Grail War where the only one left will get their wish granted.

Fate Stay Night Heaven's Feel 3 then proceed to be the final chapter/movie to end this route. Where Shirou(the main character) tries to save his lover who got corrupted by the fake Holy Grail although he needs to drop his ideology of being a "Hero" and proceed to fight everything that comes his way even if he loses his life.

The animation of this movie is insane. Arguably the best one I have seen. The smoothness of the fighting scene / Scenery / Character. Especially the fighting scene of the main character with epic music hyping up is astonishing. Ufotable never disappoints us when it comes to animation, every part of this movie can be captured and considered as a piece of art. 10/10 for the animation

The soundtrack of this movie is also great starting from the opening and ending by Aimer which explains the emotion of the movie very well. I was getting a goosebump when I heard the Emiya Theme song which was reproduced from the original one from a visual novel. All of the theme songs were perfectly organized and good for all of the scenes. I also love the Japanese voice actor who put their best into the emotion of the character. 10/10 for the soundtrack

The overall story was quite okay as there might be some small details that are missing from the original one. The story would be considered confusing for the people who start watching about how each of the characters starts using the power out of nowhere. Still, as a person who has watched a lot of Fate series previously, I found it very enjoyable and love how the writer has added some small details to the movies. With all those facts, I think that every person who watches this movie would agree to the fact that the Fighting scene in this movie was the one that carried the whole movie. 9.5/10 for the story

Recommendation: If you want to enjoy this movie to the best I would recommend you to watch the Fate Stay Night Unlimited Blade Work and Fate Zero before watching this trilogy so you can get an excellent understanding of the whole film.

Final score: 10/10 The fighting scene, intensity of the story, Character, and soundtrack are excellent. Ufotable met their standard in producing the best quality anime. I would say this is one of my all-time favorite anime movies.

Seriously Disappointed
kelenken2 April 2021
I really want to like it ... I am a big fan of the franchise, and something for which this saga caught me in the beginning was for its balanced use of action and the development of the story, in any case, this trilogy in its first movie makes use of the previous one formulates correctly and introduces you to the new story that it raises, the sequel is masterful in raising all the good of the first installment in addition to having a fresh script and with an impressive development, but it is agggh My God seems to have forgotten all the above and do constant use of "Deus ex machina" in an almost criminal way. The animation is incredible but that is useless if the action looks very choppy and various aspects just don't make sense. I'm glad I didn't see her in the movies.

A sad closing for a trilogy that started out very well, had an impressive middle ground and eventually falls into oblivion.

5/10.

Easily one of my favorite Movie Trilogies of all time.
kaiju-9265328 October 2022
So glad I won this trilogy on Blu-ray My God this movie was Beautiful!!! The animation of this movie was Top Notch, Ufotable definitely brought their A-Game with this film, & went even further than they did with the previous movie. The music was gorgeous to listen to, the Fight Scenes, & OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't give this movie anything less than a 10 out of 10, easily one of Ufotable's Best!!! I am happy to say that the Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel anime trilogy is literally the Anime equivalent to the Heisei Gamera Trilogy, Sakura is Best Girl for Shirou, & Rider is a Goddess.

A nail-biting ending to a trilogy thrill ride
TheGreatGreenBadger12 May 2022
I really like this series of movies, it definitely adds to the wonderfully confusing but cool lore of the franchise. This movie sums up the Heaven's Feel portion of the Fate franchise, and it was pretty nice! I thoroughly enjoyed this series, which is only a small part of the vast world of Fate/Stay Night!
