Heidi Gives a Helping Hand
lavatch12 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The gist of this fifth episode is that Heidi shows some genuine concern for Walter when she retrieves for him the harmonica left behind by Shrier, after he was unceremoniously dropped from the Homecoming program. But the kind gesture backfires when Colin learns that Heidi and crossed the line and paid a visit to Walter in his room. There was the sense as well that the harmonica might trigger a traumatic episode. In this regard, Colin is right in taking Heidi to task.

We also probe a little deeper into the pilot project of Homecoming that is part of the growing Geist corporation and the Redwood division. We meet Colin's supervisor, who has tasked Colin with successfully rehabilitating the vets.

Carrasco has located Shrier, who seems lost in a fog while working on a lawn clean-up crew. Shrier gives a vague warning to Carrasco during their brief conversation.

In the present tense (half-screen) scenes, Colin has traveled so that he may meet Heidi in person, lying that he was going on a trip to Milwaukee. It is clear that Heidi's restaurant is on the Gulf Coast or South Florida. He shows up at Fat Morgan's and orders chowder. But it is clear that Heidi has no recollection of Colin in their face-to-face encounter in the restaurant.

The big mystery is what happened to Walter? What were the circumstances of the simultaneous dismissal of Walter and Heidi from Homecoming facility?

Helping

Warning: Spoilers
We finally learned a little bit about the Colin character which was a move in the right direction.

I still am waiting for that big reveal or something big to happen. While this is engaging and entertaining in a way, it is not worthy of all the internet hype.

CHEER! - (7 stars out of 10)

The stage curtains open ...

"I was just waiting for the glue to dry."

"Homecoming - Season 1, Episode 5: Helping" showcases a deeping of the relationship between Heidi and Walter, and a widening of the relationship between Heidi and her boss, Colin. It was a fun episode that featured a back and forth practical joke payback session with Heidi and Walter, giving us some needed laughs and smiles - but then they slap you right in the face with it at the end.

Walter takes it upon himself to play a practical joke on Heidi by glueing everything down on her desk, for which, Heidi gets some payback, of course. This just escalates the situation and the pranks continue. However, Colin got wind of the fact that Heidi had found Shrier's harmonica and gave it to Walter, and then spent some time in his room getting to know more about him ... which was completely taken wrong by Colin. Now her job is on the line. In the present day, Colin finds Heidi, but when he goes into the restaurant to talk to her, she doesn't even recognize him.

This was a fun episode that kind of took a little break from the main storyline for a while giving us some needed levity and a chance to catch our breath a little bit. But, then they get us back on track at the end of the episode ... and how.

This is another winner in what is proving to be one of my favorite shows I've watched in a long time. It gets a solid 7 stars out of 10 and puts me at the halfway mark of Season 1. I can't wait to jump into the next episode.
