Looking into Paul Walker's life
jjmeijerink23 August 2018
I first got to know about this actor through the first The Fast and the Furious movie where he was displayed as a hunky white and blue eyed guy showing the greatest charm that I've seen back then. That charm together with his role, displaying charisma and an uncanny ability to suck you into his energy were amazing. From that moment on I became a fan. This guy seemed like the complete male package.

How does someone cope with struggles & fame? How can you stay true to yourself? How can you keep on doing the things that you love? How does your life influence others? What is the message that you want others to understand?

The stories told about Paul Walker through his family, friends, colleagues and via his own video fragments in this documentary will give you an understanding of how Paul lived and wanted to live his life.

That life of his was abruptly ended by a fatal car accident. A man's life, just pulled to a stop because of one reckless moment. At that time, in 2013, when I heard/read the news about his fatal accident it stunned me tremendously. It is also the first time I found myself crying over an actor's death.

Actors die due to suicide or accidental OD's, like with Robin Williams, Heath Ledger, and others. But in the way this man's life ended is just a damn tragedy. Certainly too fast and too furious.

Rest well, Paul. One day you'll be reunited with your family again.

As a side-note I'd like to recommend the last movie with Paul Walker called Furious 7. It'll give an added contribution to his last moments.

Walks The Walk
videorama-759-85939128 August 2018
I remember when I first heard this. like a bombshell. I was in my room, and heard the t,v. I thought my ears were horribly deceiving me. I flew off my bed, raced out into lounge. I was sort of devastated. How could something like this happen to Paul Walker, especially at this time, when his body of acting work, of late, was really becoming acknowledged. Check out Hours, Pawn Shop Chronicles, Brick Mansions to see what I mean. I've never been affecting this much by an actor's death before, and I never will be again. I really don't know how bigger star, he would of been today. This documentary, unlike no other, chronicles the life of our late star, painting a true picture of a man who gave with his heart, and lived life like no other. For me, there were some borderline teary eyed moments, especially, when viewing family footage of him as a nipper, doing his first screen test, even showing him as a four, five year old, with bushy hair, doing a doggy food ad. The documentary really captures, the inner true self of this special guy, and this almost masterpiece-ish docu is very affecting, the late Paul, wouldn't be disappointed at this tribute. If I had to meet one star in my life, without the exception of Willem Dafoe, this is someone I'd meet. A true humanitarian, and I'm humbly proud to say legend, who left us, way too soon. especially only months after his 40'th. Now that sucks. For Paul Walker fans, especially.

I Am Paul Walker shines a light on his struggles with fame and his fantastic generosity
BlurayAddictAU20 September 2018
Coming to Cinemas for a limited release this friday in Australia, I Am Paul Walker takes a look at the life of the Fast & Furious actor through the lens of his family & close friends. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this film, I myself was a low key fan of Paul Walker and the Fast & Furious films, and I really thought that he was succeeding at finding more interesting roles before he tragically passed away a few years ago.

I ended up quite liking this documentary, mainly because it focuses more on Walker's upbringing and then struggles from the excessive fame he obtained after the Fast & Furious films by mainly interviewing family members & close friends instead of co-stars. The only exception to this is Tyrese Gibson who provides a nice balance without taking up an overwhelming part of the film, this gives I Am Paul Walker a very personal and intimate feeling.

Visually the film uses many family photos and home video (which there is a lot of) provided by the family and paints a very interesting portrait of the type of person that Paul Walker was, it is very clear that he was all about family, and helping others which makes the ending pack even more of a punch when they inevitably reach the day he went out in that porsche.

Overall I Am Paul Walker reveals an intimate picture of his early life right through to his stardom, being well edited and including many anecdotes from Walker's family & friends makes this film a must see for fans and people curious about struggles with fame. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and recommend to go see it this Friday (20th Sept) during it's limited theatrical run here in Australia.

Thanks to The Backlot Films for providing me with a screener for review.

I'm a little confused

I found it interesting that they never brought up once his girlfriend at the time when he died? He was with her for 7 years? I heard she was a big part of his life why not even one interview?

Paul Walker's legacy will live on for generations! 10/10

I highly recommend watching this documentary, it's inspirational, funny, and sad. Back in 2001, as a kid, I watched this movie on VHS called "The Fast and The Furious". I loved it and immediately became a fan. Paul walker's character Brian O'Connor was one of my favorite characters. I knew that Paul's career would take off. I was devastated when I read the news of Paul's passing. Paul Walker's legacy will live on for generations. I always wanted to be an actor. I wish I could do a movie with Paul Walker. If any fans, friends, or Paul Walker's family members reads this understand that Paul Walker will never be forgotten. He was a gift from God, an angel. His spirit will live on within our hearts and lives forever. Everyone should honor Paul's legacy.

A Truly Good Man
larrys321 June 2019
This documentary on the late actor Paul Walker really gave me some very good insights into the type of man he was. He was forever struggling with the phoniness and constraints of Hollywood, but realized it was a necessary evil to allow him the freedom to do what he really loved when he wasn't working.

What stood out for me in this doc was Walker's generosity and wanting to help not only his own family but help anywhere he could be of service, like his traveling to devastated Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. Additionally, he was hands-on active in the conservation of animals like the Great White shark.

All in all, only knowing Walker from his screen performances, I am glad I got to discover what a terrific human being he was in so many ways. With his tragic accident in 2013, the world did indeed suffer a major loss.

A real loss
BandSAboutMovies12 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Starting with a home video of Paul Walker celebrating his 15th birthday with his family, I Am Paul Walker explores the life of a major star who died way too soon. It explores his journey from a surfboarder to an actor growing into being a major star before dying in a car crash in 2013. A major theme is being an adrenaline junkie, which is ultimately what took his life.

Walker's life changed once he was in The Fast and the Furious. But he strived to give of himself and to charity, as well as raise his fifteen-year-old daughter, who had just moved to Los Angeles from Hawaii at the time of his death.

The really interesting part is that despite working hard and struggling hard to be credible, Walker never really considered himself an actor. For example, his take it or leave it attitude led to him turning down the role of Superman for four movies. He just didn't see himself in that sort of role or being typecast.

I really enjoyed seeing and hearing more about Running Scared, a movie that I feel is underrated. Walker delivered in that film and it's a film that I've gone back to several times and enjoyed more and more with each view.

Sadly, Walker's death still feels pointless. Hearing what a great person he was doesn't make it any easier to understand. It just makes it even sadder, as Walker left behind not only a big career but a major hole in the lives of countless people.

I Am Paul Walker

Warning: Spoilers
This was part of a trend of TV-made documentary films from Network Entertainment celebrating popular movie stars who passed away too soon. Basically, this film looks back at the life and career of American actor Paul Walker. Friends and family that knew him best talk about his early and popular films and his roles, his relationships, his personal interests, and his shocking and tragic death in 2013 in a high-speed car accident. With clips and discussions of his films, including: Shark Week (1987) (TV series), Meet the Deedles (1998), Pleasantville (1998), Varsity Blues (1999), The Skulls (2000), Cribs (2000) (Walker appeared on an episode), The Fast and the Furious (2001), 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003), Into the Blue (2005), Running Scared (2006), Flags of Our Fathers (2006), Fast & Furious (2009), Fast & Furious 5 (2011), Hours (2013), and Fast & Furious 7 (his final film, he died during production). It also goes into detail about his interest in cars and driving fast, his relationships, and what caused the car crash and how he died. With contributions from Rob Cohen, Tyrese Gibson, Cheryl Walker (Paul's mother), Paul Walker III (Paul's father), Caleb Walker (Paul's brother), Ashlie Walker (Paul's sister) and Rhett Walker (Paul's uncle). It is a shame that Walker died aged only 40, but this makes you appreciate how good an actor and a nice guy he was, it is an interesting documentary. Good!

Wonderful documentary about Paul, just wish there was more at the end.
rchosen-193-553524 August 2020
This is a truly wonderful documentary about Paul's life, really sad to see not many watched it. If I had only one complaint, I would have liked to see them talk about just how impacted the world was by his loss. It wasn't like your everyday celeb pasing, Paul was someone special. In the Philippines, his death was heart breaking because of all the work he did there after what happened.

I never met Pail of course but loved him in all his movies, he seemed so genuine and kind. Aside from Robin Williams, Paul's death was one that made me cry. The world lost an amazing person way to early. And even more sad is it probably could have been avoided if not for his friend having to take the car around the block.

Not factual, omitted anything negative
nina-364-80759325 April 2021
If you wanted an overly long glowing memorial, this is it. This isn't factual or interesting. It left out anything that could be considered negative about Paul Walker. Particularly his disturbing predilection for underage girls. It says something that neither of the underage women he was involved with were interviewed. Especially since one was his current girlfriend at the time of his death.

A touching tribute
henrybodill23 January 2024
As a big fan of Paul Walker my review may be a bit biased but I think that this documentary is a touching tribute to one of hollywoods best actors of the past decade. As you may know Paul Walker was most notably known as Brian O'Connor from the fast and furious franchise but this documentary also acknowledges his other roles he played whether that be as a young child actor or in his later films also. We get a great insight into walkers childhood through many home videos and interviews with his mother, father, uncle, siblings and friends including probably his closest friend in the acting world Tyrese. The documentary focuses on Walker trying to balance between a peaceful life surfing and spending time with his daughter and the demanding Hollywood lifestyle. The only criticism I have of this is that they didn't get an interview with his wife, daughter or any other of his co stars this could have been due to them not wanting to speak on the matter as I can imagine it is still very sensitive even to this day.

All in all a very heartfelt tribute to a great actor, family man and good friend. RIP Paul Walker.
