waste of dollar and half...redbox rental.
kenbo-6383324 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Lets see...first scene... Girl hooks up online with someone she has never met. . Goes to his house, not meeting in public first. He does not meet her at door, just keeps sending creepy texts to her. She gets locked in after seeing a weirdo with knife, then calls 911. All she says is he is trying to kill me, help me! Doesnt give her name, or say where she is, although you would think she used gps on her phone to find the place. So stupid at that point I shut it off, rather waste dollar and half rental fee than waste my time.

Such a strong man

Warning: Spoilers
Slasher nun kills people at a B&B that used to be a nunnery. Clues as to the killer' identity are heavy which includes a bad digital camera footage from 1974. Not sure if the identity was meant to be a mystery. After we see one person getting killed, we then build the character of Aesha (Becca Hirani) whose mom sends her away to the B&B simply because she parties too much or something. Had some light moments.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

Facepalm (Spoilers)
dntazemebro25 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler Alert:

I wished the characters would be killed for how stupid they were. Here are ten points I thought so.

1. All Aesha needed to do was call the cops, which she did the last minute in the movie which basically saved her life (I guess?).

2. Her friend, Imogen, didn't want to run away. Instead she waited for the nun to enter the bathroom, then tried to run away, but was too late.

3. With the noose around Imogens neck, she didn't even try to escape. Which tells me Imogen might've wanted to die.

4. Aesha watches her friend die as the nun takes it's damn sweet time to kill Imogen. Wait till she takes her last breathe, then finally run away to a church that is just a couple meters away. What a great hiding spot Aesha.

5. Aesha decides to watch a movie with blasting volume in the church while the nun is still after her. Don't worry Aesha, the nun has no idea you're there.

6. The nun finds Aesha (I wonder how?), and sits behind her. Aesha notices the nun, but still thinks the nun isn't aware of her, and tip-toes behind a pillar just a couple feet away. Does Aesha think she's invisible?

7. One thing she is, is she's invincible. She get's stabbed in the neck with a long sharp kitchen knife, but is still able to talk on the phone.

8. "I love company", says Aesha. There is a little sick girl named Lucy in the room she was suppose to babysit. What about asking her if she's hungry? or knocking on her door to ask if she's feeling fine. None of that.

9. The nun had no reason to keep Imogen alive after their first encounter in Lucy's room. Instead, the nun just hit her head and let her rest it off on "Lucys" bed. It's okay though, Imogen doesn't know how to escape.

10. The nun left some delicious looking cookies, that just happened to disappear. Or just invisible cookies.

The movie itself had so much potential, but it seemed like the lazy writers had no idea how they were going to tie a knot with the plot. So they ended the movie with Aesha calling the cops to rescue her, which she possible could've done 30 minutes in the movie.

Dumb movie had me face-palmed at the climax. All that aside, the camera work was nice, and the acting wasn't too bad (except mom). 2/10 Just because I like horror movies.

It should be called the nun standing at a door
jimmyallan-7136123 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A whole hour of this film is a girl not calling the cops on a weirdo in a nun costume. A whole hour of her talking to this nun through a door when she can clearly take a step to the right and see said nun standing there but instead likes to talk to the wooden door.

Everyone was too dumb to survive
junebug70-110 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Everyone in this was just dumb & did next to nothing to secure their safety. The first death was inserted as filler I guess because it had absolutely no relevance to any other part of the movie. The 2nd death just kind of happened but at least had a thin reason for occurring. The 3rd & final death was just ridiculous. Victim went from unconscious to being able to run around the house to not being able to take a loose hangman's noise from around her neck & then it was too late. The killer would slow down when chasing victims when he got too close & it didn't fit in the storyline. In a large 2 story house no one picks up anything to protect themselves with...well once she threw what I think was a coffee cup. In a house with full single pane glass windows & doors, not ONCE did they try & break a single one to get away. Not sure why the killer knocked on the door when he could just walk in. It's just bad all the way around

Was'nt too bad
marcusdavis407 February 2020
The movie is'nt as half as bad as everybody makes it out to be .It had some good bits in it .I kind of figured who the killer was about half way thru the movie though a bit predictable .The directors should have recast the main killer role.He was'nt one bit scary .He looked liked somebodies grandfather ,those 2 girls could have taken him out quite easily. They should have cast Kane Hodder in the role instead or get someone who looks more intimidating for petes sake.As for the lead character ,i just found her annoyingly dumb and was wishing for her to get chopped up by the killer.

Utterly horrible and truly worthless genre fare
kannibalcorpsegrinder25 October 2018
Sent off to a remote house, a young woman trying to reform her party-girl attitude tries to fight the boredom and solitude by making friends with the few locals around only to soon be targeted by a strange nun who claims to be saving her from a psycho in the area who forces her to defend herself.

This one ended up being a rather bland overall effort. One of the biggest problems with this one is the rather off-putting and brazenly plodding pace which makes this a really tough film to get through. There's quite a lot of plodding filler to be had here to pad this out to a feature-length effort, ranging from the opening where she messages her friend that's carried on way too long to the early conversations that have no energy and the continuous phone calls to her friend to come to visit which are just plain bland and hold this back from getting going. Later scenes, including the various side characters who are in the woods around the house or just the endless shots of her handing out around the house doing nothing which really gets old and boring. That's not helped at all by the incredibly lame and banal attempts at horror here, which are completely mishandled and undoes a lot of this one. The opening murders are just simple stabbings without much incident behind them as the pathetic stabbing just seems weak, the outright lack of stalking to build-up any kind of suspense to the ambush at her house when it kills off her friend and the arrival of the roommate kills off any kind of atmosphere present with the lack of information given as to how it got inside the house to play the fabled videotape. The outright lack of gore or even a traditional body count here really undoes this one as it never provides the goods when it should be providing some genre hallmarks. The last problem here is the fact that this one is so haphazard and lackadaisical about the central character that a lot of potential fear is missed due to the story. It's way too convenient to have the central character show up at the house which used to be her nunnery, is discovered way too late and is such a lame manner that is no way realistic or plausible, and the only somewhat decent idea here of her talking to the nun through the door is ruined when you realize that's the entire interaction between them to where you can't see each other's face during the scene. With a laughable killer, no real money shots for being a genre picture and a boring presentation due to its pace, this one really is quite awful and worthless overall.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language and Violence.

Best Nun Movie Ever
matthewellis-5185330 August 2022
So i paid 7.50$ for this when it came out at Walmart and i've tricked so many ppl watching this film. It's so bad its good. Favorite part is when the nun hangs her best friend which she could of easily took the noose off when the nun spent 6 mins walking up the stairs and pulling on the rope. I hope the 2nd nun movie is as good as this masterpiece is. I hope they make a 3rd nun movie, and the main protagonist actually answers the door and accepts the cookies. Honestly the conjuring nun and this one is a toss up for me not much difference on the horror or acting. 8/10 all day! Idk what else to say im just trying the fill this up of 600 characters.

Fairly enjoyable Nun horror romp.
parry_na25 February 2022
After a fairly promising beginning, the film proper seems at first like a different production. Aesha, a bubbly former tearaway, is well played by Becca Hirani and the story has potential but the pacing leaves a lot to be desired.

A conversation where the villain of the piece politely asks to be let in, and is politely turned down, goes on for an age, lapsing into farce. Perhaps it is meant to, but to constantly revert to a scene that is unnecessary and hardly progresses, saps the interest. It's a shame, because heavily reduced, it might have been quite effective. The villain, when revealed, seems less physically able than the two sprightly girls Aesha and Imogen (Tiffany-Ellen Robinson). They could at least have tried to defend themselves.

The dialogue is marred by many statements beginning with 'sorry'; director/writer Scott Jeffrey might have taken steps to iron out such repetition and improved the end result.

Ultimately, we have a film that almost works, but could have been better. There's a nice eccentric performance from Thomas Mailand as Dan, which helps things along. My score is 6 out of 10.

Pure amateurisme
chameleonaram1 October 2018
This really is crap. Its not horror but thriller lol, terrible thriller too. The cover like someone else noticed had nothing to do with the movie either.

It is really so bad that we began to laugh about it all. The plot was childishly simple, hack, my little daughter of 6 could do better, honestly, that's not a joke.

Why on earth was there no-one warning the makers NOT TO PUSH this movie threw. I mean, everyone involved with this scrappy movie is actually doing a big step backwards.

1 star well earned!

The BAD Nun
lukaperec6 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen a large number of horror films in my career, but this one is just... Just... I really don't know what to say; is there really a word to describe this "video"? I mean, the scene when Aesha talks to the so called "Nun" behind the closed door is the most boring part I've ever seen. It's like they talking about weather or staff like that. But, that's not all! This part is fifteen minutes long... I lose 55 minutes watching this "video; I'm not interesting how the end looks like and I'm so sorry for the directors and actors.

Absolutely the worst NON scary, scary movie I have ever seen. The image on the cover doesn't connect to the actual movie at all. Who ever came up with this, should find a new career. It was horrible.

I don't usually leave a movie review, but this one is so bad I thought I could save you some time. From conversations, to acting to story all, everything about this movie was terrible. Please do yourself a huge favor and watch something else.

I'm clearly in a minority but really enjoyed it!
spookywoo8 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I've probably been a bit generous giving this nine stars, but that's partly in recognition of the fact that it's a very low budget indie, and also a reflection of how pleasantly surprised I was, given the other reviews.

I found the film very tense in parts, and some of the scenes were extremely effective. For instance: I groaned when they first did the "text messages shown on screen" thing, but it's used to tremendous effect a couple of times. The opening credits are based around some old footage which works very well, both here and when it pops up throughout the film.

Of course, the "knock knock" scenes are the creepy heart of the movie and work very well - especially when the nun finally loses her temper. The door itself is an asset here, because the windows on either side make you feel like Aesha is exposed, despite the layer of wood between them. The possibility of a jump scare adds a constant layer of tension to these scenes.

The dialogue is definitely sometimes awkward, but in a believable way (like the characters are a bit shy and uncertain how to act in conversation with each other). If you accept the natural style of acting as a creative decision it works well, which might be luck rather than judgement. The score is very good.

For me, the desperate cash-in marketing actually worked in the film's favour. The film is on sale in the UK as The *Satanic* Nun, which is an outright fib. But if the film had been advertised as a straight thriller, I would have felt sure of the ending very early on. Instead, I thought the eventual "twist" was a definite contender, but also braced myself for a supernatural angle or mix of the two (e.g., perhaps the villain was being used as a pawn by a demonic entity). So instead of feeling cheated, I'd felt like I'd been engaged by the story and keen to find out which it was (that one definitely *is* luck rather than judgement, though - because no one designed the DVD cover with that in mind).

Still, like I say, I really enjoyed it. I was engaged by the story and at times my heart was pounding. That's really all you can ask for, when you're watching a low budget indie horror.

Cashing in on the conjuring series, but...
laurahippensteel30 April 2019
It was slow moving to start and I almost switched it off, but it picked up in the second half. They were totally cashing in on The Nun from the Conjuring series, But if you're into suspense and creepy nuns, it's entertaining. Seems they borrowed a bit from Psycho as well. There was one theme that played throughout the movie that was quite hard to believe, but all in all if you can get through the first half, it's entertaining and has a twist at the end.

Awful Low-Budget Film
claudio_carvalho26 January 2021
"The Bad Nun" is an amateurish low-budget film where nothing works: the story and the screenplay are awful, with no development of characters or situations. The performances are forgettable and the dialogs are boring and histrionic many times. The cinematography, lighting, camera work and framing are terrible and amateurish. Better off not wasting your time watching this flick. My vote is three.

a masterpiece

Warning: Spoilers
A truly terrible film

the plot makes no sense what so ever. Literally why didn't the killer just murder her in her sleep, he had so many opportunities. Also, why did he need to dress as a nun? I feel like it would have been better if he just was himself because the contrast of his middle aged man face in a nun outfit is quite jarring. I also feel like it would have been way more effective if it was a different actor playing him. This dude doesn't give me scary vibes at all.

If you want to watch a truly bizarre british movie with a plot that makes so sense at all, this film is for you. You'll love it.
