pretty visuals, weak acting
fandomfatale1 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
There were some good ideas here and some very pretty visuals. The acting is the main area that was lacking. I do appreciate the effort to not be anachronistic with the dialogue and think that was the right choice but most of it was not delivered well.

This is not a children's movie. There was a topless woman, a mention of rape, and lots of violence and mentions of cannibalism.

If you're looking for romance, this is not the movie for you. The widow/main character has two interesting relationships with men she rescues in the forest but they both die before things get interesting. The movie also seems to go down in almost real time, so not very much time goes by. She mentions a necromancer early on so it's not surprising that her wish/goal in the narrative is that the unicorn will restore her dead husband and child to her.

I really liked the thief/tracker character. I actually laughed out loud when he said they couldn't both yawn as a pretense to be able to look back at the man who was following them.

Oh my, the post production..
o_this30 June 2018
These days I find it hard to understand why the basic cutting, lighting, colors and audio are still a huge problem, when you can do post prosessing literally on your home PC.

The needed equiment is not expensive anymore. I'm not talking about fancy cgi, just the core basics for making a decent looking modern film instead of a this home video.

A random person who just understands how to use a browser could find & learn the needed software and make this look better, within the same day, while still learning how to even do it.

I can't recommend this, it's a home video for the people who made it.

Role playing in the woods
kosmasp10 May 2019
Yes this looks like video and yes it could have used a bit (or two) of post production. The question is, would anyone receive or see more in this than there is if it had put on a mask, if it had tried to deceive with better color and lighting? Probably not, because the acting is still off and you can't help but wonder why or what they are trying to tell the viewer.

Especially the ending is I guess meant to be a message or some sort of statement. I have to admit at that moment and even though I did not expect it to end this way (even though it had all the indications), I did not bother to check or really think about it ... you shouldn't either. There is decent amount of gore/blood/effects and some minor nudity involved, if you care

You get what you pay for...

I liked it, but then again I do have a soft spot for low budget fantasy flicks with terrible CGI.

This is as good as any, and better than some.

The cast do a reasonable job, the female lead is lovely to look at, the scenery and costumes are nice enough, and bonus points for the cannibals in the forest - they're a unique "villain" for this kind of film.

Just don't go into it expecting a LotR stye epic.

This movie is for somebody. That somebody is a strange fellow.
abonrad13 October 2022
I'm giving this a middle of the road 5/10 cause this is a hard one to review. So lets break this down:

What's commendable?

The movie is different, that's for sure. Browsing Tubi for nonsense to watch usually ends up with a predictable low budging experience that has you yawning or chuckling. Bad effects, awful costumes, the loosest definition of acting, a distinct lack of trying. Well the first thing that is noticeable is that these people did try. There's effort here. It's a horror fantasy, with some nasty cannibals running around being cannibals. The characters interact in a strange way and their dialog is often a bit off, giving everything a real dreamlike feel even when the post processing doesn't kick in (but when it does hooooooooo boy). This does tie in with the themes of the movie, oddly enough.

So what doesn't work? Well, it's pretty boring, not much actually happens in the movie, and some of the scenes along with the costumes give this movie more of a fetish-film feel than anything else. Specifically when the antagonist is rubbing her tits with blood for a length of time that feels longer than it probably is. Don't watch this with people you don't know well or they are gonna think you're into some wild stuff. Maybe you are into wild stuff? I don't judge, but your friends might. In addition, the unicorn horn that appears to be some kind of plunger bounces hilariously when the horse it's attached to moves around. It's very funny.

All in all, a strange experience, but a welcome change of pace from the usual nonsense you find on free streaming services. So give it a whirl if you want something different especially if you like bloody half naked shamans.

Relaxing theatrical movie
shadowbender62623 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
At first when I watched the trailer I was like - Naah this is gonna suck. But then I watched the movie and I was satisfied because it differs from the movies released nowadays. It's more realistic. It's like I am watching a movie and a theatrical play at the same time. I find it relaxing to watch. Not the typical cliche movie full of CGI stuff. *SPOILERS* The ending though, was very bad and the film was quite short with major gaps in the script, should of put more effort and time in it. Also the protagonist didn't sound convincing at all. So in short, the thief died for nothing, shot by some redneck playboy chick, the grunt died and redeemed himself and Bridgid somehow got reunited with her family, but we have no idea if she died or were they resurrected. We have no idea what village she came from, neither where this forest is, not to mention what time period this is. Also we are left to guess what that naked chick with a bow is and what's her role in the story, neither are we told where the unicorn came from and how it allowed it's land to be filled with these mindless cannibals. In other words, the script is an absolute mess. And what surprised me the most was, there was no single critter out there besides the ravens on the shot with the full moon, no sounds of animals no nothing.

Wishful waste
angelicseven9 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show seems like a bad mix. It should of first been rated MA-14 because of the two females boobs that were revealing in it. Like those gory slasher movies. So much doesn't make any sense. Like the man, the blonde first freed, should been on his way instead of following her crazed dream about some unicorn. Then there's the zombie led female who ate hearts which didn't grant her anything special. Not really an entertaining movie to enjoy.

Worth the $1.25 it cost me.
moviebuff72-223-26552420 November 2023
Some movies are stupid, some have a boring story, some too much CGI. This movie gets a pass from me because it doesn't have to be good if it is has something interesting to it. I'm thankful the people making it threw in a little nudity. I'm tired of moves being over the top in violence and language but skip showing us some t&a. Most movies today are sloppily put together or make little sense. The real problems with the Unicorn movie is boring dialogue and fight scenes. They should have put effort into making the characters interesting while still showing a little nipple here and there. I give it a D but only because of the nudity. Most movies that are R rated only throws us with 500 fwords and non stop over the top violence. It's far better than zombieland and the sequel.

Quest for the Unicorn
BandSAboutMovies9 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I love that the cover of this movie looks like it could very well be a kid movie about unicorns and the actual film is full of gore, cannibalism and that trait that Heavy Metal and The Hitchhiker always had where breasts just have to appear every few scenes.

A widow (Karin Brauns) goes on a dangerous quest to meet a mythical wish-granting unicorn which just so happens to live in a Wishing Forest. And that's where the cannibals live and a feral goddess (Stormi Maya) who devours the hearts of non-believers.

This movie is like a Nightwish tour shirt come to life for 80 someodd minutes. And the effects are way better than they need to be, the gross moments are more than gross and the women are all universally the kind of gorgeous that red blooded boys enjoy. It made me wish that the 80s era of deathstalkers and sorceresses never ended and we got more of these movies.

Directed by Leia and Jadzia Perez from a script by Jamie Grefe, who has also write some new Emanuelle movies that aren't out yet, this movie feels like getting dosed outside an Amon Amarth show, making out with someone you don't know and will never see again, then coming to at a Melvins show across town in the midst of drinking your third beer. It doesn't have to make any sense for you to enjoy it.

Nontraditional Expository Filmmaking
bemyfriend-4018414 February 2021
I gave ten stars. It is not a traditional movie; which would follow a traditional plot. It earns ten stars; because in its oeuvre as an expository film, it's great! The women are breathtakingly magnificent; as is the scenery. The repartee between the heroine and the thief is disarmingly witty. Most comedies don't really make me laugh; but these two characters' exchange of barbs, made me laugh out loud. The action is surprisingly professional; and it looks like the cast did their own stunts. Our incredibly beautiful heroine, seems to have a background in athletics. And in addition to her beauty, this film is meant to showcase her athleticism. I'm guessing she did something like an event called Steeple-Chase; because she races through the forest, easily tackling obstacles. Also entering this parade of eye-popping visuals, is the beautiful Stormi Maya. She was in the hit film Hustlers (2019), and She's Gotta Have It, the TV series. I'm guessing this film was made to showcase the talents of all involved; rather than to make a traditional film, with a full storyline. To me, this movie was a rousing success. Only bad things: the makeup for the heroine's close-ups. It looked like they shined her face with Armor All. And the thief's face, which stays dirty too long. It looked gross; and in reality, he'd probably wipe it off. Still gets ten stars.

Made by crazy people

Made by crazy people with a dream in their hearts and I think this behavior should be encouraged. 6 stars cause I would do worse with the same resources.

Nifty fantasy outing
Woodyanders6 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Desperate, but determined widow Brijid (a lively performance by ravishing blonde beauty Karin Brauns) embarks on a dangerous quest to find and meet a wish granting unicorn that lives deep inside a magical forest that's infested with cannibal freaks.

Directors Leia and Jadzia Perez relate the absorbingly odd story at a constant pace, offers a flavorsome evocation of a wondrous and perilous enchanted fairytale world, make fine use of the breathtaking Boreal forest locations, deliver some cool bits of graphic gore, and stage the chase and fight scenes with aplomb. Voluptuous knockout Stormi Maya cuts a striking figure as formidable cannibal goddess Leonore. Moreover, there are sturdy supporting contributions from Samuel Story as charming thief Keljeon and Robert Amstler as brawny warrior Virren, plus a highly ambiguous "happy" ending. A neat little flick.
