Entertaining enough....

I think a line from the movie sums it up pretty well.... "A bus ride in rush-hour to mediocrity." Plus I hate when movies have such an unsatisfactory ending.

I watched it for 20 min or so and gave up. So boring and uninteresting. Maybe it got better but I don't have patience to wait and see and waste my time.

Don't waste your time

This is not a romantic comedy. It is definitely not romantic, ( the male lead looks 16) and is mismatched with a more mature woman with whom there is ZERO chemistry. Every scene together, he looks like he is in torture, and possibly on his first date. The love scenes, if you can call them that, more uncomfortable fumbling, are few and far between , and difficult to watch.

As for the comedy part of Romantic Comedy, there is NOTHING funny in this movie.

Then they throw in a gay best friend who has been lusting after the lead forever and after a night spent together, we are left to wonder if they had sex or not.

The plot is completely laid out in the movie description and that's the movie, except that the characters are thoroughly unlikeable, it's not Romantic, or a comedy, and it is poorly cast and acted. I believe the eight glowing reviews came from the families of the cast.

An Escape room with no exit sign at the end
jenrave5 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Like someone else (who hated the film) said in the reviews - it's hard to call it a romantic comedy. But I wouldn't hold it against the film. Neither will I hold against it the fact that the relationship between the male and the female lead was awkward and a bit impassive, because this is the whole point of the story, isn't it? The main character is so caught up in his own reality, which he desperately tries to write (and re-write) better and avoid all clichés, while the real life around him drags him exactly to the spots he so desperately wants to break away from. Throughout the film it becomes clear that despite being remarkably self absorbed, the protagonist is completely oblivious to his own true nature, whichever it may be, and incapable of following his heart, whatever it may desire.

The film questions clichés both within the story and on a meta level, at some moments excessively so. It is no wonder then, that the ending tries to be anything but a cliché, but scratch away every possible story ending and what you are left with is nothing, which is to my opinion what unfortunately happens to this film. The great buildup towards the protagonist finally coming to terms with himself and his deepest, most true self, is cut short, maybe with the hope to let the audience decide which fate they would rather him to have, but in truth, what we are left with is an unresolved riddle of a personality, working hard on discovering itself only to stay in that escape room without finding the exit sign. And leaving us trapped with him.

Loved it!!

I'm a classic rom com lover and I loved this film. It was a bit like a modern 500 days of summer, not a classic rom com. Really enjoyed it!

A rainbow of emotions
I saw this movie and absolutely fell in love with it. The characters. The dialogue. The scenery. Every detail of the movie took me on a roller coaster of emotion. The two main characters were believable and quite loveable....... in their own way. The Joni Mitchell song (THE CIRCLE GAME) that was played throughout the film perfectly summed up the inner thoughts of the characters. Almost like the song was written for this movie. The final scene still makes me emotional. The screenplay was witty, quirky and clever. The director obviously wanted his actors to portray the characters in a certain way, and it was spot on. I urge everyone to see this movie.!

One of the smartest back and forth dialogue driven films I have seen in years. Witty and humorous and shot beautifully to cap it. Great acting and a crisp script. Highly recommend this unique quirky flick.

Better then I expected

I'm not a huge romcom fan, but this one was unexpected (and as the metacommentary points out), it's refreshing when the characters aren't necessarily likable.

So, I did enjoy this (and, I assume like the rest of the reviewers, reviewed it today, because it was released in the middle of the night on iTunes and wasn't available before then).

Gem in the rough

Found this flick after seemingly watching everything else in quarantine. Was pleasantly entertained and constantly laughing from the Sorkin 'esque dialogue throughout. Highly recommend watching, even before some of the more highly known hollywood films out there.

It's not your average rom com, and there are many different things to love about it. I really liked the beginning of the boys friendship introduction. I liked the argument the female lead had at the swings. There is a-lot of powerful things said in this movie. Overall it was worth the watch!
