An odd shift for sure
Trey_Trebuchet8 September 2021
I see where the criticism is coming from. The first season was super solid. It had a great mystery, great emotion, and some legitimately charming characters.

Season 2 was more of the same, just not quite as strong. Still very enjoyable and well acted, and emotional. Yes, yes more of the same.

Season 3, so far as I can tell, has ditched the deep mystery plotting and has gone straight for thrills and scares and a plot that's pretty straightforward. I'm personally enjoying it for the most part. It honestly feels a bit like a different show, the actors being a little older and dealing with some more mature stuff (except the dating stuff). I'm fine with it so far anyway. I'm in this for the acting and characters and that's all fine and dandy (although Hopper seems juuuuust a little out of character in my opinion).

Very interested in seeing how this ball goes. It's not as good as the other two seasons so far, but I'm still enjoying it.

Squelching Noises
Hitchcoc8 July 2019
This is a fun episode. I threw out logic a long time ago because when you are dealing with utter fantasy, how can you criticize on the basis of logic. There is lots of action and a creative adversary. Most of it makes no sense, but that's OK. Now, I get to see if they've painted themselves into a corner or can make this all work out in the end. Lots of fun.

One for all and all for one ...
bosporan15 May 2022
An exciting episode with a lot going on, this is Stranger Things at its best. Danger is growing and each of our heroes play their part. El goes all eleveny, Joyce becomes angry mom and Dustin transforms into super nerd. The flayer's power is growing and El struggles with its newfound confidence as its legion of zombies help it grow.

All-in-all the best episode this season.

Why Opening the Gate in Hawkins?
claudio_carvalho26 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Steve and Robin are captured and interrogated by the Russian agents while Dustin and Erica flees. Ell is seeking a Flayed using her powers but she has an unexpected surprise when she finds Billy. Dr. Alexei explains that the Russian are trying to open the gate to the Upside Down to destroy America using the local power facilities.

"Chapter Six: E Pluribus Unum" discloses why the Russians are trying to open the gate in Hawkins. El gets in trouble with her powers. What will happen next? My vote is eight.

Superb! Awesome dream/memory sequence
theburrus16 March 2022
I thought this is the best of all the episodes for this show in any of the three seasons. I especially loved the memory sequence, the way it showed the origins of Billy's hate, the source. The music, imagery was wonderful and impressive.

Slow progress with this episode but still a lot of fun.
cruise014 August 2019
Episode 3.06 (4 out of 5 stars).

The episode begins after the last episode. Nancy and Jonathan face against the monster in the hospital. Eleven, and her friends stop it. Until it gets away. The story continues but it is a little slow burn with its direction. Jim and Joyce are stuck for a long time questioning Alexi. Eleven is trying to find the location were the monster could be hiding. While Mike, Lucas, Jonathan, Will, Max, and Nancy are trying to look for nearby locations. Dustin and Erica are separated with Steve and Robin. Steve and Robin are being interrogated by the Russians. The story does get a little slow moving with its script and direction. It is still a lot of fun. The music score is great. I love how it incorporates a 1980s horror movie Day of the Dead music score in there with Steve and Robin talking their hearts out while they are tied together. Also, one of the issues with this episode is the direction with Steve and Robin spending their whole time talking about their high school and past. While they are tied up and waiting for the Russians to come back to beat them some more. Which they could have spent trying to escape and get out of there.

It is still a fun episode. The ending gets a little creepy and does set the excitement for the next episode.

Super intense episode
funnycommentor12 July 2022
The plot of the 6th episode was really interesting and very intense. From start to finish, I was so anxious about what's gonna happen. There were too many chase scenes and many battles. On that episode, all of the characters were so important and the acting was so good! I really admire them. Moreover, I was surprised that we had the chance to learn more about Billy's past. Overall, it was a very nice episode, totally enjoyable. By the way, the ending was expected, but totally, shocking. Last but not least, can't wait to watch the next episode!

Understand the criticism but ...
anaisdewolf-385216 July 2019
Yeah yeah yeah. All the criticism it gets I totally understand. I was a huge fan of season 1, season 2 a bit less but i still liked it tho. I'm also scared that the show has more become « fan serving », Mileven, Lumac, Dustin and Steve,... I kinda missed the more threatening, mystery-show like in season 1 !

Stranger things IS FAR from PERFECT, I could make a list of « stupid » events/plots and that list could go on and on, but I love the characters, their développement was cool interesting this season, how some of the kids mature faster than others,... as a teen :) it's sooo relatable!

And that's exactly my point! Even though this show is far from perfect, and sometimes a bit cheesy, or too slow for others it's sooo ENJOYABLE! And at the end that's what count no?

There are enough points where the Duffers het my respect for, for example the way how they create a mission for every group of characters, and how they bring those together in the final plot.

And yeah , sometimes it's slow , but what did y'all expect? That from star on the monsters would be chasing your favorite characters? If you don't spend enough time on the character développement, why would you care if they get chased, or die?

At the end, that's what's count for me! It's totally not perfect but it's very nice, relatable, fun enjoyable to watch, and apart of that, you sometimes get thrilled and surprised !

I haven't rolled my eyes this much in a long time
serdeatalay7 July 2019
A very brilliantly written and directed show is sliding into stupidity and cliche right before our eyes. I really don't get this unsubstantiated appreciation of season 3 because of a general ST fandom. I love this show too, at least I did until season 3 began but, let's be honest, it just became impossible to ignore all this illogical stuff happening. Most people here mentioned them, so there is no need to repeat. After watching episode 4, I felt like the show is coming back again but, no, these last two episodes took away that charm again. I don't know how the season ends yet but, I hope I will have some better things to say.

And seriously, what is that Russian terminator nonsense? Or in general, - and I keep saying this since the very first episode of the season - what is all that nonsense about Russians?

One of many
TheLittleSongbird16 August 2022
Compared to the highly impressive first two seasons (with the best episodes being absolutely outstanding), Season 3 of 'Stranger Things' was a disappointment generally and did not start off good. Before showing a big step forward with the third and fourth episodes, "The Sauna Test" being a return to form for 'Stranger Things' and as good as the best of Seasons 1 and 2. So was really hoping that "Chapter Six: E Pluribus Unum" would be an improvement and not be the return to disappointment like the previous episode was.

Unfortunately, "Chapter Six: E Pluribus Unum" doesn't improve on the previous episode and has pretty much all that was wrong with that episode and most of Season 3 in fact. Not a terrible episode by all means, don't consider any 'Stranger Things' episode that, but a long way from being great or the show on top form. Despite having good things, "Chapter Six: E Pluribus Unum" actually isn't particularly good as an overall whole. The concept was good, but everything that spoilt most of the previous Season 3 episodes are here as well as the ridiculousness.

"Chapter Six: E Pluribus Unum" has good things. The production values are of the usual exceptionally high quality, with some very stylish and atmospheric photography. The music also has atmosphere in a way that is ominous and nostalgic.

Acting is all very good to great all round and likewise with the chemistry between the cast. Some nice 'Stand By Me' like nostalgia here and there as well. The ending was pretty cool.

However, "Chapter Six: E Pluribus Unum" could have been so much better. The writing only works in the nostalgia, the rest of it is too reminiscent of cheesy teenage situational comedy and mawkish family drama soap opera. Too much of the storytelling is ridiculous, the Russian Terminator stuff almost insultingly so, and boasts too many vague or downright illogical character motivations.

Did feel too that the tension and suspense levels are far too low, with the events being too predictable and silly and the pace too pedestrian to make either possible. The dialogue tends to be cheesy and awkward.

Overall, watchable but not one of those repeat viewings episodes. 5/10.

So very 80's
solstafira18 August 2019
As someone who was a teenager in the 80s, this show is so authentic, it take me back. A few people have been moaning abut the Russian thing but, if you go back to the 80s, in the middle of the cold war, then the enemy was ALWAYS the Russians in films and TV series, it was a bit of a tongue in cheek joke. This is one of the many things that makes ST authentic. It took me a while to get into season 1. I loved season 2 but I really love season 3 because it nails the Steven Spielberg vibe to perfection, often through it's ludicrousness. It also reminds me of the film The Burbs, which is another 80s classic. I guess if you weren't around in the 80s, you may not get it but, for me, its a piece of nostalgia.

The Murray stuff offers some much-needed comedy that the rest of the show does not have right now. As a whole a pretty entertaining episode here.

The invasion of the Mind Flayer begins
ninjaboyballer6 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The aftermath of the hospital incident forces Eleven to try to find and reach into Billy's mind. And those scenes were actually really interesting and gave Billy some depth and made you feel a bit more for him as he has had a tragic past. And his speech to Eleven is really threatening, with Dacre Montgomery delivering a really good performance like he had been these past 6 episodes. And after this, I personally think he is a bit underrated. Steve and Robin have also been captured by the Russians and their scenes were really entertaining and discovering more about Robins past and history really diving deep into her character. Dustin and Erica were entertaining as always and Hopper trying to get information out of Alexi is really funny because Alexi speaks Russian and doesn't understand English. In conclusion, the ending tells the whole story of what is to come in the final 2 episodes.

Final rating: 9.6/10

Netflix Effect
mgidb22 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Obviously the third season is the best of them all. Netflix investment is clearly has its touch on the process of filmmaking VFX Artist is keeping the good work skyrocket in comparison with other movies non produced by Netflix.. I mean the creepy monster reformation in the first scene is outrageous and one of the best cenimatic scenes produced ever in the horror series..

S3 just got worse and worse. Bit cringey at times. I've been looking forward to S3 but it's just not the same as earlier seasons.

Yup! I am surprised! Because this one has me concerned about El and her friends. Joyce, Hopper, Murray, and Alexi on the other hand always seem to make me laugh.
