Way below expectations
kushansworldofspace9 September 2018
I was looking for a Scooby Doo movie... ended up getting a cheap fan fiction. I did enjoy it though. Badly written plot and very bad execution. Scooby Doo is usually predictable when it comes to the ghost but this just yelling out who it is from the beginning of the movie. Characters have been changed from what we knew as kids. And all the characters were really badly made. Can't complaint too much about the acting because they've tried to get the old Scooby Doo feel to it which they failed epicly at. The CGI and vfx are extremely poor compared to other 2018 movies. Never expected such a bad movie from Warner Bros.

Orwellian future in a bad movie
anthonyf9421 August 2019
Prequel of Scooby Doo's live action saga and prequel based on Daphne and Velma's story, the movie conserves all the stereotypes of other films (even if we can consider it something a part: different actors and concepts): pre-adolescent high school movie, with problems about diversity and popularity that are not really analyzed. Something interesting there is about an Orwellian school world where social network system controls and influences people's minds; but the film obeys to the tendency toward pseudo-feminist operas, that in reality deal with the problem with superficiality. Moreover, no trace of Scooby Doo.

This is insane
harybobjoebob20 October 2020
This is one of the worst movies I've seen but it gets so insanely stupid it's almost worth watching. Daphne and Velma just dont work without the rest of the gang, there characters are really dumb in this, and at the start of the film velma is really mean to daphne for no reason, then later on they just make up for no reason, it's like why were they fighting in the first place?

The technology in this film is ridiculous, and the way this school handles the kids goes past my suspension of disbelief. The school posts everyone's grades on this computer wall and ranks them from worst to best, which of course would never fly in an actual school. You know who the villain is from the start of the film, there is no surprises, the person literally looks into the camera evil like one of there first appearances. The plot is nonsensical and dumb and this whole film is aimed at extremely small kids but even they probably would hate this, I know I would. The only reason to watch this is to see just how nonsensical and stupid it gets, but be warned its the worst piece of scooby doo media I've ever seen.

Please, for the love of all that is unholy, stay away from this if you like Scooby Doo...
paul_haakonsen14 June 2018
I sat down to watch this movie with my 8 year old son, whom is a big fan of Scooby Doo and the Mystery Gang.

Let's just say that he left after about 15 minutes of suffering through the torture method that is known as "Daphne & Velma", while I managed to endure 45 minutes of this garbage.

Right, well there was so many things wrong with this.

First, the movie was lacking a proper storyline and seemed like director Suzi Yoonessi was given no limitations and just put together a series of random segments here and there. Sarah Jeffery, playing Daphne, looked nothing like the cartoon character in any way, except for their hair color, and it didn't help that she was stumbling through what were supposed to pass as being acting. Sarah Gilman, playing Velma, fared little better in the acting department, but at least they made her look very much like the cartoon character.

The characters in the movie were one-dimensional cardboard cut out figures that offered absolutely nothing to the storyline. And they were so irrelevant that you didn't even bother about them in any way.

"Daphne & Velma" was also hindered by an abysmal set of dialogue. Wow, it was such a pain to listen to.

According to the synopsis, then this movie was supposed to take place before the gang all got together to form the Mystery Gang. Right, well plausible enough. But no! Then the movie should be set in the time according to prior to the first Scooby Doo episode, which it clearly was not if you look at all the gadgets and technology in the movie. That was just a downright horrible flaw to the movie. Sure, they attempted to appeal to the audience today, but good luck getting the youngsters to raise their heads from their phones and tablets long enough to get any interest in this derailed movie project.

This movie was a swing and an atrocious miss. Not going to bother coming back to this. In fact, I will pretend I never saw those God awful 44 minutes and not let it taint my view on the legacy of Scooby Doo and the Mystery Gang.

Skip it.

Starts off already but starts failing after the first 30 minutes and then goes into major sinkhole territory during the final act. What a shame, because they looked like they had the budget to pull this off.

No Way

This was Not even close to the Velma And Daphne we love so greatly in all the Scooby doo series and Previous Scooby doo movies. Its so bad I will have to watch the first original Scooby doo cartoons to get over how bad it is. I spent a hefty amount on money on this Blue ray DVD Set and After seeing it I felt Robbed. It doesn't even catch the spirit of the Characters themselves. Two thumbs down.

Daphne, Velma, but no Scooby
studioAT21 September 2019
It must be difficult for people to keep trying to put new spins on the 'Scooby Doo' brand, without tarnishing what people love about it, so in that sense this film should be commended.

However, for me it takes too many liberties with the characters, and I don't think either portrayal of the characters matches up with the other people who have played them in other live action 'Scooby' films.

A nice attempt, but it doesn't work for me.

I for one am open for anything Scooby Doo related!
rohanownz16 May 2018
I was quite surprised to see this movie existed. I can't say I'm close to the Cartoon Network scene or any of that anymore like I was as a child so it doesn't surprise me, but I still love me some Scooby Doo! I personally love all the real action versions including the Cartoon Network ones. With that being said the absence of Fred, Shaggy, and Scooby although they were certainly missed; didn't take away from the overall mood. I would have liked to see the actors from the last couple movies return. But being though this was a spin off it needed to separate itself. So having new actresses didn't really bother me. You could say they didn't fit the roles as ideally as the previous choices. However I think this was intentional not only to create a fresh twist on the series, but also to universalize the characters and to open up to different races and cultures.

Overall I think they did a pretty good job at playing Velma and Daphne. I liked that they made this like a prequel to them becoming the mystery solvers that we all know them for. This opened up a fresh breath of air on the series and allows a lot more to be explored. It's fun to be a part of the characters slowly start to take on the form that we are so keen on seeing. I also want to take the time to appreciate the homage they paid with the chasing montage towards the end. Although rather cheesy, it still put a smile on my face and it certainly added to the mood of the film.

I would say the plot line itself is rather simplistic and at times seems a bit cheesy and underplayed. This is a Scooby Doo movie though, so you have to remember it is aimed mostly for kids and teenagers. With that in mind I think if you stop thinking about how ridiculous and questionable it is, and rather accept it for what it is. You will realize it has a place and it delivers a slighly above average experience. It's certainly not the most action packed hour and 15 minute. But it's also not as boring as other reviewers have stated. I guess as a younger child you would certainly get bored of this. Especially with the lack of Scooby and comedy relief from Shaggy. But as a teenager I think you would certainly relate a lot more to it's modern approach and would be pretty invested into figuring out what is happening and who is behind the whole thing.

This type of story has been used in many other shows and movies over the years. Kids being hypnotized or changed into mindless zombies in a school setting. Just off the top of my head I remember an episode of Even Stevens where this happened with eye exams. Or even the movie Cooties for instance. Where only the children are being affected. So the premise is fairly overused but they tried to modernize it with the technology of today and they changed the reasoning just enough to make it something unique. Some could argue filling a movie with cell phones, social media, and Instagram clones just to try to relate to today's youth is a cheap lazy trick. I myself start to feel a bit drained of the constant pushing of social media influence in today's programming. Although if it works it works. It just really shows what the world has become. It also kind of teaches a lesson in a way by telling people not to be so invested in technology. However if the children and teens who watch this actually pick up on that I am not too sure. I think this is why they address the situation at the end of the movie just to verbally let it sink in for those who didn't figure it out beforehand.

I enjoyed watching this movie. I think it was shot well, paid it's dues, and provided a unique experience. It could have had more Scooby Doo references and things that made it feel like a Scooby movie but it wasn't too bad. I don't want to blast it because I do not want them to stop making movies altogether. I rather we got things like this than nothing at all. I also am appreciative that they are trying something new. I absolutely loved the music during the credits! It had an awesome Scooby Doo vibe and I believe it was used a couple times in the film as well. As for where this could head? Well like I said there's a lot more they can explore. That it be with the same duo or even the other characters. This is a great opportunity to create back stories and to help demonstrate why certain characters are they way they are. I just hope the future chapters will have a bit more substance as far as action and to keep younger audiences engaged. I believe this is an average to slighyly above average movie. I am not a harsh critic when it comes to movies so if you like Scooby Doo or do not have much else to do, then I recommend you give it a watch!

This movie was terrible. I watched it all hoping that it would get better. It just never did... 👎 Daphne and Velma are great characters and this movie made them out to be lame. You seriously want me to believe that Daphne can't dress herself? She's the coolest girl in school!

Give it a chance. Keep an open mind.
I was surprised to find this movie was made. I was skeptical, but I like to keep an open mind based on previous spinoff series. While the original series is a classic and can never truly be recreated, this was a refreshing delight. I think it's a fantastic way to keep progressing the Scooby Doo franchise for future generations. This movie opens doors for bringing Scooby Doo into the present. While other movies and series have done a great job it was awesome to see character development for two characters that are stereotyped from the 70s. These girls were assertive, smart, and great characters in their own rights. The plot wasn't super strong, and it was easy to pick the villain but isn't that kinda the charm of Scooby Doo? I always felt like a rockstar detective as a kid watching the shows. Overall, I think it's a great movie.

Daphne & Velma (2018)-

What the actual did I nearly just watch?

My nephew (Admittedly he's 22) is a tad obsessed with the 'Scooby-Doo' films of 2002/2004 and can quote them word for word. It's never been a talent that's come in particularly handy, but each to their own. Anyway, as a result, I recorded this for him, so we could see how the Scooby Gang got together.

Sadly with such poor production values, acting and direction, we didn't even get to the bit where they establish whatever ghost or ghoulie they were to face.

Why? Why? Why would you do this and taint the name of such legendary characters and who the hell gave the green light to this or allowed them the copyrights? Or did they get around it by not using any of the exact names? Either way they need to be sued for damages.

It's an actual travesty!

Unscored as Unfinished.

Warning: Spoilers
I am not sure what it says about pop culture when a 50-year-old cartoon gets a prequel that is set in the present. The production is clearly intended for the younger crowd. It lacks any adult reference or humor geared to the older generation. Sarah Jeffery as Daphne was simply adorable and Sarah Gilman was, well Velma. There is your plot silliness and occasional statement on the coddling of students with light punishment.

Adult fans of the classic cartoon might find disappointment.

I'm something of a connoisseur of awful kids films. Until now, Bandslam (2009) has reigned supreme in the so-bad-it's-good, batsh-tuff, kids film department. Daphne & Velma dethroned Bandslam within 20 minutes of run time.

Stunning, a must-watch.

Disgrace To the series!!
Marynewcomb201328 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It you want to do a spinoff with these characters, that's ok. People won't have a problem as long as you stay true to the source!! This strays as far from the source as it could!! First off, the school is called Coolsville High in Ohio!! Second & this is a huge one that no one that put an honest review up would touch, Daphnie is not mixed!! She's a natural red head for crying out loud!! Velma is not rich like they portrayed her in this garbage!!! Has Ashley & the other producers, writers & director ever seen scooby doo? The kid playing Daphnie is also one of the "sisters" in the failed Charmed remake!! The acting, writing & storyline are god awful!! This is a short version of what the headline of this says!! If you are a fan of scooby doo & gang, don't watch this!!

Your children will like it less than you do...
the_platinum_dragon11 May 2018
The word dross was invented with movies like this in mind. It was a good idea in practice and with the Scooby Doo link, should have been an easy solid 5 star movie, or at least be entertaining to children. Unfortunately it was neither of those 2 things. My children, ranging in age between 3 and 14, disliked this movie more than me and wandered off thoroughly bored not even half way through. And thats the main problem with this film, it doesn't seem to know who it's aiming itself at. Too mature for small children and far too boring and uninteresting for teenagers. It starts off irritatingly sugary sweet, like those aweful disney children's entertainment series, where everything's so cutesy and gender/race neutral. Daphne is now Latino at a guess (with a bad ginger wig), her mom's black and her dad's white... Regardless of race though, I found all three characters were poor choices for their roles and were all mildly irritating at best (Welma doesn't fare much better). I originally rated this movie 1 star before I'd finished watching it, but to it's credit the second half was much better than the first, so I upped the rating to reflect this. My advice would be to avoid altogether or just skip the first half, even then your children wont find it very interesting still, this film adds nothing to the Scooby Doo universe, infact it probably lowered it's stock considerably. A chance sadly missed.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. AVOID THIS MOVIE!
Ultra_Collectibles13 June 2018
Good god this was awful to sit through. I had five minutes left of the movie and I turned it off. I felt like I should have set fire to the $13 I paid for this. Watched it barely once and I will never again. Very unfunny movie. Cheap looking movie. Both girls are terrible at acting and Velma is very ugly to look at. AVOID THIS MOVIE!

donnellyliam-5914024 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I found out about this movie from a video talking about "The Top 10 Worst Scooby-Doo Movies," and I honest to God didn't even knew this movie existed.

So I decided to give it a watch and... yikes. And the thing is that I like both Daphne AND Velma, but this is honestly a completely pointless movie.

Like, what's the point of making a Scooby-Doo movie, when you don't even have Scooby-Doo in the movie?

And it can also be very uncomfortable too! Some point during the movie, they do the "eyes glow in the dark gag" that's a famous gag in Scooby-Doo, but Jesus Christ, it looks so horrifying in this! I would say that gags like that can only work in cartoons, but I can't even say that because "Scooby-Doo: The Mystery Begins"... ACTUALLY did it a bit better! Yeah it looks bad, but at least it tried to pull it off. Here it just looks like nightmare fuel!

Who are these people?
Pnkprinses30926 July 2019
If you strip the relation to scooby doo and the cheesy modern tech and slang stuff/cheesy outfit designs, it's actually a good young adult movie. I liked it. But it did make me keep asking "where are the other 3? Why are they nothing like their cartoon personality and appearances? Why are they paranoid theorists? Since when is Daphne Obsessed with aliens and Velma the physical representation of sadness from inside out?"

missed you Scooby-Doo :\
nethy-nho5 April 2019
So, I can't understand, why do a live action without Scooby-Doo! For me doesn't work, the two characters could be anyone, the only thing that you think "oh, okay they are of Scooby-Doo" is the clothes and something about your personality, but all rest is to much cliche. The mistery isn't so cool, and your resolution is ok. I just hope that give us another movie but with all the gang. Pleaaaaase.

Great, Refreshing, Funny for Intended Audiences
ewaldfamilyof27 May 2018
When my husband picked this movie up for our daughters who are 9 and 10, I hadn't even heard of it. I thought it would be something that they would probably watch, mildly enjoy and forget about. We put it on while we were all working on legos and before I knew it, they had stopped building completely and were watching it without distraction. I laughed so hard at so many parts of this film and so did my girls. It touches on numerous feminist ideas in very subtle ways like the mother being the girl boss and the dad being a stay at home dad, how one of their biggest fears was that there would never be a female president and that there is NO love interest what so ever for either of the girls. It was refreshing, and unexpectedly really funny. The music and wardrobe was great as well. By the end we were hoping that there would be a follow up in the form of a sequel, tv show or web series. We have owned it for 3 days and its been watched 3 times. This isn't meant for teenagers though- so I'm not sure how old the other reviewers were or what they expected but I and my girls were pleasantly surprised.

Daphne and Velma For The 21st Century
cluecase3 June 2018
Daphne and Velma is a funny, feminist, and weird in a good way movie. Ignore the haters who are saying that this movie is bad just because Fred, Shaggy, and, Scooby are not in it. Yes, I admit it isn't exactly award show worthy and some parts are downright cheesy and don't totally make sense, but that doesn't take away from how awesome it actually is. I mean this movie updated the Scooby Doo universe to a whole new century full of feminism and biracial leads and I for one whole heartedly accept these updates and hope that you will too. So try to ignore the haters and watch this movie yourself. From your own opinion. Oh and if you have kid relatives or friends invite them along and I'm sure you won't regret it.
