Warning: Spoilers
They only made the police slightly corrupt in tonight's episode, which I guess is a win given the current political climate on today's TV shows. The overseas drama was a bit interesting, although given the current administration's laissez-faire approach to the Middle East it is hard to examine what complex negotiations look like any longer.

More of the Same

The President decides to go to Afghanistan, leaving his staff to field all kinds of problems. Seth gets himself in trouble, a drug distribution charge, and the Lyor guy has some really stupid problems. Eccentrics abound and he is the king. And who is that blonde reporter who has access to everything, popping in an out of places that should be secured, confronting people? Have you also noticed that nearly every woman on this show could qualify as a fashion model? Then there's another saccharine bit with the cook in the Afghan compound. Oh well. I expect too much, like some reality.

Warning: Spoilers
Accurate or not, this is just what the series needed- get out of Washington and go where some of the action is really at.

The secret mission by Kirkman to Afghanistan was just what was ordered and meeting those two war-lords, you really didn't have to wonder which one was more anti-American. They were both just born with the hatred forming.

While back at home, Kirkman's two aides had to deal with two of their own revelations, the press secretary covering up for his brother and the weird adviser's on and off again marriage.

Notice that this episode was better since it rarely mentioned Kirkman's mother-in-law and her troubles. Those mothers-in-law shall do it all the time.

Why is Agent Wells everywhere?
christopher-m-collins22 August 2019
This episode pushes the limits for me about why Agent Wells is always involved with everything important happening with the US government. Suddenly she is running an investigation in Afghanistan? I understand why the writers want to reuse a good character and strong actress, but at some point it just doesn't make sense anymore to have the same character contributing to so many cases all over the world.

Yeah this makes sense...

Warning: Spoilers
And again here is President Kirkman and his staff, with the midas touch. Everywhere they go, they solve the problems that experts have been struggling with for years. So agent Wells (who seems to be the only FBI agent in the world, so she is everywhere and in everything) teams up with a CIA station chief, and both these people who look like they are in their 20s are briefing the President on a major operation to end hostilities in Afghanistan. Isn't that the military's job?

Anyway, they all simply show up and within a day, uncover a major terrorist leader, rescue a kidnapped CIA station chief, and solve a career military cook's family problem, just by talking to him for a few minutes! This is the most ridiculous episode of the series so far.

Writers dont know anything about the Army

Warning: Spoilers
There were so many mistakes in this episode someone would forf their military consultant. For starters, he calls an Specialst a Corporal. Easy mistake to make, right? They're both E-4. But then he calls another Specialist a Privatr. Ok, so maybr Kirkman just doesn't know anything about the Army... But wait, a plot element makes a guy with 22 years of service an E-5?? He would've been kicked out a long time ago. Then he says he's gonna recommend him for leave? Leave is already required of every soldier.

Get your shit together, ABC.

Even dramas should not be promoting false narratives

Warning: Spoilers
I have been a fan of Designated Survivor from the beginning. Unfortunately, the underlying plot of the show seems to have run out of steam and now it has become The West Wing. Not sure, I never watched it.

In any case, in this episode the president responds to an Afghani who protests the US invasion and occupation of his country by stating, "you provided sanctuary and assistance to the people who attacked my country."

This is factually incorrect and should not stand. I know of no objective proof other than the planners of 9/11 having been residing in Afghanistan, not that they ever received any assistance from the government or the Taliban. As a matter of fact, the Taliban offered, when demanded by President Bush, to extradite Osama Bin Laden to a neutral third country for trial. Bush refused.

Bush wanted his war. He invaded Afghanistan and this has led to the longest war in American history. No, this misrepresentation of history should not be allowed to go unanswered.

President Kirkman becomes more arrogant WTF?? Hollywood's American arrogance
sonerayanlar30 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Kirkman is in Afganistan then talks to Afgan leaders who are supposedly terrorists, But president extends his hands towards to both of them. So one betrays and kills 80 people, 4 of them are Americans, rest of them local people who have no value for Kirkman.. Well in the last episodes He really thinks Americans are the super best ones, so he lectures and rebukes the other nations PLEASE stop this, this makes the show really boring, and too pro American . we are international viewers so I personally can not accept this arrogance and ignorance of the script writers whoever put these last episodes. I loved the show when it began so radically so exciting.. but exciting is fading away friends..

Dumb and dumber
nfire-297413 May 2020
The writing has gone from ridiculous to stupid. I am only watching the rest of the series because I lost a bet.

Oh, and if I hand't mentioned it before...Maggie Q (Hannah) is a horrible actress. Simply can't act.
