A Bizarre Indie Gem

Nick Snow and team have done something special here. They've made a true indie that's wildly entertaining.

The Blacklight is a gonzo genre-mish-mash that takes you on a ride. Without spoiling much, the movie's supernatural elements are incorporated pretty damned seamlessly into an already gripping hard-boiled crime noir story and the result is unique.

The movie looks like a million bucks and the performances crackle. Particularly the lead actor and the actor portraying his former partner in crime.

If you're complaining about cookie-cutter movies where you can sniff out the twists a mile away, then do yourself a favor and check this gem out.

Had one good moment

Movie was exceptionally appaling. Lots of gaps in the story, not great acting from many of the cast, music was a bit off and volume changes where prominent.

The only good part in this movie was where the main character responded "ok" to the old man in the nursing home, gave me a good chuckle.

How this is categorised as "horror" is also extremely worrying due to the fact that there are close to zero horror aspects in this movie.

Ending was expectedly bad, unclimactic and just left me even more void of emotion than the entire two whole hours did.

It felt more like a washed up comedy with semi B-List actors trying it's hardest to still contain a serious tone to it all.

Main actor 10/10, deserves to get cast in other movies.

The absolute worst

I've not watched a movie as bad as The Blacklight - ever. Even The Room is better. There is absolutely nothing positive about this movie - nothing. Terrible acting, a laughable plot, or what there was of a plot, poor attempt at "humor" and atrocious writing. It isn't even a matter of having a low budget. I've watched movies with low budgets that ran circles around this garbage. It's just that bad and then some. Where the positive ratings came from, can't be accurate or genuine. No one with even the slightest level of intelligence would find anything redeeming in this garbage film. Really, don't waste your time on this.
