It never seems to end
xhidden9926 July 2020
There's a mess of subplots and side plots so that most of the movie is filler for the central story. 2hrs 20 is a long slog for a pretty simple story if they just stuck to it but they have to drag along so much. Keep in mind also she's a terrible detective who does almost no detective work.

Wow that kinda sucked...
Med-Jasta21 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Having enjoyed the first two I was ready for the ending. I watched these in three days and had never heard a thing about them. You can judge a storyteller by their ending. It's the hardest part. They can always make promises of the unknown of where things are going. But when it comes down to it they have nowhere to hide and nothing to tease. The best stories go places that you couldn't predict because they understand the story better than you do.

Unfortunately this became extremely predictable. Like my initial guess was spot on and there were no surprises at all. Amaia makes all the worst decisions with no real reason. Are things bad with her husband? No. He's looking out for her and very understanding but somehow she cheats on him. Did this happen because it fit her character? No, just to make things darker. The second she slept with Markina I knew he was the bad guy.

And when she asks him if he killed Jonan and it's supposed to be this big dramatic moment or surprise. Like you didn't already know when he showed up at graveyard, if not before.

Then her mom died arbitrarily. That was a story I thought was going to have a big pay off. I was okay with it ending like that if the rest of the story resolved. But it didn't.

Once Jonan died I feared the worst for this movie. Killing a main character especially the one that you love is a really cheap way to bring up the dramatic tension. Sometimes it works but here it was a senseless way to draw you in.

It made me feel better that he was gay. Because Amaia is very very hot. It was getting unrealistic that there was no tension between them. I figured that he was just really professional.

Then when I realized that the movie was nearing it's end and that the story I was waiting to be set up was already set up and resolving I couldn't believe that they had lost it.

They don't really solve anything. Kinda but the cult is still out there maybe...? And then you have no idea what's going to happen with her husband. No idea! Most movies give you the clues to figure it out but this didn't. You are left in the dark on an meaningless ambiguous ending.

And what was up with Dupree dying or whatever? That didn't go anywhere at all. I thought she might come to America and try to find him. Those three scenes didn't need to be in the movie.

It's clear that they had no idea how to conclude this story. It reminded me of "the girl that kicked the hornet's nest," or "Hannibal" where they wanted to conclude the story but couldn't think of the story to tell.

I rewatched this about a year later and enjoyed it much more. I am still disappointed with the things that disappointed me, but blow wasn't as hard. It's a good movie and the ride to disappointment is a good one.

Offering to the Storm screenplay, narrative and coherence
BitingMovieJunkie28 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Finally it comes to an end. After >The Invisible Guardian and >The Legacy of the Bones, the "Batzan Trilogy" is waving us goodbye with this last outing. The only problem being that it's not such a great ending. Lemme start by saying that the movie is actually "marginally better" than the previous one, which was a truncated effort with no real ending, too many plot holes, zero suspense and a frustrating second half.

Now, this final movie at least improves upon the suspense factor (to some degree), but it's not able to improve that much in the screenwriting department, given the large amount of plot holes or loose ends that still plague the narrative, like too many times before.

We gotta hand it to the filmmakers that they managed to produce a more fascinating and suspenseful feature than they ever managed to, even though it's twenty minutes longer than the previous movie. There's a sense of dread that permeates this >Offering to the Storm for much of its running time that we never sensed before, till the ending that almost succeeds in ruining it all.

To be honest, problems start way before in the second half when the main character begins to act - like always - in a totally erratic and nonsensical way. For some obscure reasons, she all of a sudden falls for the "Magistrato" even though up to that moment she always resisted his "avances".

But that's not enough, because she also happens to meander back and forth back and forth always by herself (thanks we should suppose to some hidden suicidal instincts of hers, who knows) without doing any real police work. She's really one of the most obnoxious and incoherent detectives ever - and don't get me wrong: not 'cause she is a woman - but 'cause she's a bad detective period.

Her assistant does much of the work. Actually, if it wasn't for him, her investigation would have been nice and dead. Kaput. But, y'know, in spite of all this, she fails to even recognizes his assistant's contribution (-----SPOILER: till something happens to him END SPOILER------).

But, as I hinted, the biggest problems come to the surface in the final act, where obviously the narrative has to be concluded, and all the dots have to been connected together, so to speak. Well, big surprise: the movie fails to give us a satisfying ending. On the contrary, even before the end credits start rolling you'll certainly find yourself wondering what the hell the authors were thinking when they made it.

-----SPOILERS AHEAD: So, the cult followers did what they did because they believed sacrificing new born babies would have somehow improved on their lives. And, as far as the narrative goes, it's true. I mean: they get rich and all. It's like: oh, great, so Imagumba or whatever its name is really exist and awarded them because of their sacrifices?

Well, maybe it was all in the cult leader actually: he was filthy rich and so maybe he was the one actually making his followers filthy rich themselves. Probably true, but it's never clarified. In fact, the movie seems to suggest some kind of "Faustian pact" with a "demon older than Christianity"... Again lingering on the esoteric while pretending to be very rational (as the scenes with the priest testify...).

And of course the cult leader he's still alive and on the run, because maybe they're gonna make another movie about that. Another loose end/plot hole: where did the all freaking Aloisious narrative go? Where is he? What happened to him? In general: why bring something to the viewers' attention to never talk about it again? Well done right there screenwriters!

I could go on but I'm tired and, by the way, I guess you get the picture: the cult plot is "resolved" too quickly in the end and the least we talk about everything else (the detective, Aloisious, the totally incoherent romance and so on and so forth) the better. -----END SPOILERS

So, to sum it up I would say that movie isn't able to give us a convincing ending and in the final act drags a little to much while leaving some plot holes along the way, seemingly unnoticed by the screenwriters. The cinematography is dark and gloomy and the atmosphere for the most part captivating, but that's not enough to make a good movie and it never will. Also the detective is still one of the most incompetent ever and the movie could easily been cut down to 2 hours or even less. It's very disappointing. The all trilogy is.

If you wanna watch a really great, suspenseful and surprising Spanish mystery feature I'd suggest you give a chance to Contratiempo (aka >The Invisible Guest).

Not all that bad, but...
gianluca-meardi19 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
While I did like the movie, and Marta as the main actress, the villain characterization is imho terrible. Not always easy to follow the sub-plots and lots of names (difficult to remember). Terrible the "end" of Rosario as well... 30 secs after all that happened in previous movies... Not to talk about the ending: where has the kidnapped US informer finished? Why the cheated husband "simply asked" Salazar... come to us in US, to come back together in Spain?!? Full stop and phone call closed. Bah... it seems the trilogy's willing a 4th episode with an American enlargement of the sept...

Offering To The Storm (Part 3 of The Baztan Trilogy) - It all comes together, finally
msunando8 September 2020
The investigation of the numerous children's skeletons and body parts continues to get murkier as Amaia (Marta Etura) is now certain that her mother Rosario was a part of a cult that indulged in human sacrifice. She is also certain that her mother isn't dead, and vehemently opposes the funeral without the body. Her fact finding mission exposes a number of facts, including wealthy families and their protective circle that partook in the sacrifices and a doctor and his nurse sister who seem to know about it all. But it isn't easy to prove anything as all documentation and leads appear to vanish, in spite of all her efforts.

Strangely enough and almost inexplicably, Amaia becomes sexually involved with Judge Javier Markina the moment her husband and her baby son have to travel to the US on an emergency, adding a complication to the plot. On top of all that, her trusted lieutenant Jonan is brutally murdered as he seemed to be closing in on the leads, setting her back significantly. Amaia now has to battle her newfound romantic liaisons, the promise to avenge Jonas' murder and more murders around her to finally zero in on the kingpin that's behind all the murky affairs.

Offering To The Storm is an apt finale to The Baztan Trilogy, whipping up intense suspense but incapable of keeping it that way until the very end as there are enough clues for the takers. Amaia's indulgence in the extramarital affair is a mere distraction that could have been avoided in the story as it weakens her character, adding a conflict of interest to her job. Marta Etura acts well, especially where she discovers Jonas' deadbody. Her mother's finale comes as an underwhelming end to a cruel and unapologetic woman, devoted to the cult. The film could have been more taut and thrilling if director Fernando Gonzalez Molina had taken certain creative liberties.

Mom was terrified of walnuts.
nogodnomasters31 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Inspector Amaia Salazar (Marta Etura ) investigates the deaths of infants who were sacrificed to Inguma in exchange for wealth in Spain's answer to "The Believers." She has a husband and child and has an affair with a rich judge. You see where this is going. Also her twin sister died as an infant and her mother is missing. They made the film too involved and too long. Dubbed in English, I thought it was Italian at first.

Guide: F-word. sex. Nudity (Marta Etura)

An overdramatised and surprising third part about the stubborn Inspector Salazar well played by Marta Etrura

Intriguing and twisted thriller with plenty of tension , shocks , ancient mythology and turns . Inspector Amaia Salazar (Marta Etura) returns to the complex case at the Baztán's valley . And this time even the most beloved for her will not be safe. In this third episode of the mysterious trilogy Inspector Amaia Salazar confronts the origins of her nightmares as she unfolds the darkest secrets of the Baztan valley. It is set in Pamplona (autonomous community of Navarra's capital; north to Spain). .It despite the fact that both the Civil Guard and Judge Markina consider the case closed, Amaia feels that she is not free from danger. From start to finish the complicated intrigue , well-paced , thrills , and suspenseful result to be continuous . A psychological thriller , being surprisingly good and compellingly shot . Complementing with ancient traditions on a dark as well as rainy land with plenty of supertitions , witchery and fantastic beings as The Tarttalo , a mythological giant creature anti-Catholic that mutilates his victims . It belongs to the successful trilogy based on the novels written by Dolores Redondo, with the respective cinematic adaptations formed by ¨El guardián invisible¨ (2017), ¨Legado en los huesos¨(2019) and this ¨Ofrenda a la Tormenta¨ (2020) . The original as well entertaining premise is overspread across the movie adding some brief conventional pitfalls . Including mythological and fantasy elements , as the serial killers laced with an enormous , hairy hominid dwelling in the woods . The picture is pretty well , though sometimes confusing as well as overlong and it has a lot of turns . However , being very entertaining for its successive suspense and intrigue enough . Stars Marta Etrura who gives a fine acting as the stubborn Inspector , being well accompanied by a good cast with full of Spanish familiar faces , such as : Nene , Leonardo Sbaraglia , Francesc Orella, Imanol Arias , Itziar Aizpuru, Patricia López Arnaiz , Ana Wagener , Pedro Casablanc, Paco Tous , Elvira Minguez , Marta Larralde, Alicia Sánchez , Patricia López Arnaiz, , Susi Sánchez , Colin McFarlane , Tomás del Estal, Álvaro Cervantes , among others .

This over-the-top thriller displays a colorful and luxurious cinematography full of lights and shades by cameraman Xavi Giménez . Being shot on location in Valley of Baztan , Navarra . And stirring and emotive score , plenty of emotion and intriguing sounds by Fernando Velázquez . Interesting and nail-biting screenplay by Luiso Berdejo based on the the second eponymous novel written by Dolores Redondo , "Legado en los huesos". This recent film by Spanish writer/director Fernando González Molina was well and professionally directed .This Spanish filmmaker Fernando González Molina has made various box-office films , being his first big hit : ¨Tres metros sobre el cielo¨ (2010). And he also made the sequel : ¨Tengo Ganas De Ti¨ (2012) , in which ¨H¨ Mario Casas falls for a gorgeous dancer called Gin , Clara Lago , but he discovers again his first great love : Maria Valverde . He went on directing successes as the $13.5 million period drama "Palm Trees in the Snow" also with Mario Casas and a thriller , ¨El Guardian Invisible¨ , followed by ¨Legado en los huesos¨and the recently premeired , ¨Ofrenda a la Tormenta¨ (2020) , the second sequel with Marta Etura again . And he has made several TV series as ¨Luna , Misterio De Calenda¨ , ¨Bienvenidos Al Lolita¨ and ¨Los Hombres De Paco¨ . Rating : 6.5/10 . Well worth seeing for the saga followers .

Decent Finale to Trilogy
fay_star8 October 2020
The thread of continuity and flow is great with these movies, as if filmed consecutively. The acting, aesthetic and production are all great and the dramatic timing and info release is good. Would recommend the trilogy to anyone into serial killers, ritualistic folklore and crime.

Gets Nowhere
snigdha-dk5025 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This film just runs in circles while getting nowhere. They have introduced so many characters who seem primary to the plot but in the end only focus on the main character, Amaiya. She is not bad, but too involved in the case personally. Is it really ok in Spain to have personal/family involvement in a case and still be on it? It's her mother she's looking for, for god's sake!! Also, there's cheating for no apparent reason. Markina honestly is not even charming at all? He seems whiny and needy and when did he fall in love with her? Was there ever a mention of that in the previous series and I missed it? I'm not so sure. The only character I really enjoyed watching was Jonan. Like, I would have been personally ok with the plot is she cheated on her husband with him. But they kill him! And he turns out to be gay which was a cheap try at a surprise factor. The mystery is not central. It's just Amaiya Amaiya Amaiya. We know she's the main character but we're not gonna watch 7+ hours of reel for a soap opera which sells itself as a mystery/mythology thriller? All in all, I'm really not sure what I watched.

Folk Horror
Pairic26 July 2020
Offering To The Storm: So the Baztan Trilogy comes to a conclusion. Just as The Legend Of The Bones cast a new light (or darkness) on The Invisible Guardian, this third offering recasts the previous two films. The three (and all of the killings) are inextricably linked as a tale of Folk Horror. Inspector Salazar continues her investigations but suspects die or commit suicide, even those in prison. Someone appears to exercise mind control over life and death. Salazar's mother is missing after jumping in the river but still operates through others. Infants are sacrificed to the Old Gods in the hope of gaining wealth and good fortune. A Cult has revived an age old tradition that lived on in the shadows in the Baztan Valley. The Opus Dei Priest/Psychiatrist appears again as does the enigmatic Investigating Magistrate. Some truly disturbing scenes involving true horror. A worthy addition to the Folk Horror Film Canon. Directed by Fernando González Molina from a screenplay by Luiso Berdejo. In Spanish, English and Basque, subtitled and dubbed. On Netflix. 8/10.

Nice trilogy... not excellent
bethjazotte-6093126 May 2021
"Oferenda à Tempestade" encerra a trilogia Baztan (após "O Guardião Invisível" e "Legado nos Ossos") com o mesmo tom de um filme policial cheio de suspense e componentes exotéricos, tendo como ponto interessante o fato de que você pode assistir a cada um dos três separadamente e obter uma história com começo, meio e fim, mas também assistir aos três e ter uma história completa. Divirta-se! No Netflix.

"Offering to the Storm" ends the Baztan trilogy (after "The Invisible Guardian" and "Legacy on the Bones") with the same tone as a thriller full of suspense and exoteric components, with the interesting fact that you can watch each of the three separately and get a story with a beginning, middle and end, but also watch the three and have a complete story. Have a good time! On Netflix. #movieslover #netflix.

A disappointment
matheushenriqueml26 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A disappointment. The first two films are excellent, but this one throws the trilogy in the trash. What a disappointing ending, and there are countless horrible script errors like: How did her father tolerate the woman's psychopath? Why didn't she shoot when they were going to kill her son? Why did she, who was so strong and rational, betray her husband at the first opportunity with that judge that we, since the second film, knew he was no good at? Is the whole cult simply abandoned by the script? And the alouisios?

Worst vilain in history
cereyese27 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Predictable plot. Very nice ambiance and photography. The movie is ok, except for the character of the judge. It seems that they tried to make him a misterious-atractive-deceiving charismatic yet tortured type, and they got someone with the ways of a stalker with no self esteem. He seems to be constantly on the verge of an inexplicable nervous break down. Possibly the worst villain and the worst acting of a villain i have witnessed in the last years. Single handedly ruined the entire movie for me.

Satisfaction
Dubskanker24 July 2020
Perfection in mystery, suspense and of course don't watch Offering to the storm if you haven't seen previous part 1 & 2. Having studied history, mythology regarding ancient basque mythology and mysticism, one can see that most of these macabre events in this trilogy have actually occurred in mankind's history. Of course read the books and you will find that the story follows to the letter.

It's finally over
captain_astronaut5 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Yeah, I watched it so I could finish the trilogy. Each movie got progressively worse (not that the first one was great). Someone already mentioned in their review all the crying our "hero" does, and that she's terrible at her job. Everyone gets the drop on her, and she stands around like an idiot. She cheats on her husband for no good reason (not that there are any sparks between them to begin with, but the husband is nothing but supportive throughout the trilogy). The evil mother who was set up in the first movie and then basically becomes a supernatural force in the second movie, is done away with in under 30 seconds in the third movie. We knew from movie #2 that Judge Date Rape was evil, but at the very end he's simply crazy. Sorry writers, you can't hide your insanity from from everyone for two movies, then show your real personality in the final reel. The insane don't know their insane, so would not be able to conceal their insanity 24/7.

I've seen Marta Etura in other Spanish movies, and I like her, but this series did her no favors. Perhaps the books are equally terrible, but I'm not going to read them to find out.

.....so this is the end?
spencejoshua-2273616 September 2020
The Baztan trilogy is packed full of unusual happenings, murders and unexplainable events. I believe viewers were excited to see some of the unsolved mysteries come to a climax that would bring closure. Unfortunately, this is not the case at all! After hours of watching the characters get pushed to the limit, enduring horrific life-threatening circumstances and even some cryptic elements, we get cheated out of some answers.

Offering to the Storm holds one's attention with similar tactics that we see in the first two films. It's basically a fast pace crime drama with multiple twists and turns that loom over our main character pushing her to the brink. In the end, the villain turns out to be exactly who everyone thought it was, yet the writer took a very unsatisfying route. I honestly believe the characters, the film and the entire trilogy fall apart during the last half our. The last scene is so open-ended that it feels like there could be another sequel. That's a problem because a franchise has to have one element to keep a fanbase........interesting characters. This is especially true concerning the protagonist. Unfortunately she's just not very intriguing.

I enjoyed the first film, The Invisible Guardian, and was surprised that a certain someone wasn't revisited in the other films. I will not be viewing any of these a second time.

It took 3 books to basically say nothing. Everything in this trilogy is staged. Everybody kills themselves at the right time. Horrible isn't the word. Who are all these people in the sect? Who's taking pictures of the detective with the lawyer? And why? Why? Why? Why? To so many un answered situations. In Spanish we have a word for these types of movies "Rollazos".

Incredible movie triology!!!🤘🤘🤘
pramodyamadurangaserf29 July 2020
This is an amazing movie. However there are some silly sex scenes between characters which can be disturbed for some viewers. Definitely those silly sex scenes are quite unnecessary or unrelatable with the original storyline/theme of the movie. if they are absent in this movie, i will give 10/10. Still a pretty much decent typical spanish crime thriller movie.

Dramatically strained
parrainigo11 August 2020
Mix the features of an average thriller and this is what you get. What was expected to be the finishing touch to a trilogy that aimed high ended up being a mess of clearly forced subplots. The lack of creativity is reflected on the continuous and rainy, dark settings. Worse, the trilogy plays with it over and over again, being wearisome and almost irritating.

What a mess...
syldt131 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Once again, we get Detective Inspector Mary Sue barking orders, getting all the work done by her coleagues and receiving all the praise for...Doing exactly what? No one knows. She has zero charisma and zero skills that we know about. She spent this last installment whining and crying and doing absolutely nothing at all. And, for doing matters worse, the most captivating and engaging character in this mess, gets killed , apparently for the sole purpose of making us feel pity for Inspector Mary Sue and shoehorning a gay relationship, out of the blue, despite the fact that we were misled to think that he was also in love with Det. Mary Sue, again, for no apparent reason, because she has the personality of a doormat. Another missed oportunity for Spanish noirs.

The entire Baztan trilogy is just great.
MikeWindgren30 July 2020
All 3 movies are worth your time.

Perhaps a little patience with part one, let the story develop, get to know the characters.

You won't be dissappointed when you like thriller movies, leaning towards ancient myths and satanism.

And don't let the Spanish language hold you back, because there is some occasional English in these movies.

The main actors are likeable, good acting as well. Production standards are high, scenery is great (Part 2 with the flooding is very well done).

When you are into solid thrillers, a very good trilogy for sure!

Comments about being boring probably are by people who like the American scream and I will kill you type of movies.

This trilogy (when you get the chance to see them, check on the main actress name and all titles will show of course) just see it. Very good.
