Indian BRAVEHEART !
saptesh78610 October 2019
Pure South Indian drama of a king who fought against cruel British Army to save his people & family from being captive. Action sequences are good although they are highly overrated. Many times your guessing will be perfect. Strategy of battle on a fort is very good. Inspired by Bahubali. Melodrama continues till ending moment of the movie. Casting is perfect. Chiranjeevi did his best in the role of Narsimha Reddy. Tamanna looking good. Nayantara is average. Amitabh is wasted. Movie is watchable at once but bewares from its length. You have to wait nearly 3 hours to finish the movie.

Nice Movie but could be More fine
vip-nishantsingh2 October 2019
The story is about the life of freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy from the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. He is the first to fight against the British from the Telugu region it is a great patriotic saga and a visual spectacle that leaves a tremendous mark thanks to its plot, Chiranjeevi's performance and massy execution. At the box office, it has the potential to succeed but don't compare with bahubali this movie is good to watch one time ..

Assuming as a fictional story with grand birth to grand death, it is worth to see. Don't wait to watch in laptop as this movie is made for cinema. Story wise bit like mangal panday.

Can be a better movie
shriganesh-6557611 October 2019
From the style, dress, graphic, acting all was super but i doesn't feel that impact. It's because of totall movie was dominating by hero itself. Should give some space to other characters as well. There are many characters just for screen appearance. Anyway it's a nice movie but just don't have enough impact.

A great tribute to the legendary Narasimha Reddy
santhoshhemu4 October 2019
I am trying to find the words for the performance of all the artists in this movie. Initially i thought why Mega Star Chiru is portraying as Narasimha Reddy instead of Ram Charan but he proved me wrong, he is Astonishing, he is a treat to watch. A great performance from the legend himself. And after him i like tamannah performance, she is gorgeous and my eyes couldn't look at the other artist while she is on the screen. Love you tamannah. For the First 30 minutes movie lags little bit but it picks up from there and there is no looking back especially the interval and second half. Please do watch this movie in the big screen and feel the goosebumps throughout the movie.

Syeraa Narasimha Reddy!

Amazing film. I have been waiting for this one for a while and finally got to see it. Loved it. This film has a lot going for it. It started out well and got better and better with each segment.

What an amazing cast. All the actors carried their role masterfully. Chiranjeevi is too good. He looks amazing. In some scenes he looks so cool. The scene where we first see Chiranjeevi doing yoga under water. Superb! He looks like a superhero in his Narshimha avatar.

There are many action scenes and they are done well. The action scene right before the intermission is superb. And the action scene right after the intermission is intense.

There are few goose bumps moments in the film. The film assembled an amazing cast. Tamannaah Bhatia has done amazing job. Sudeep looks like a warrior walked out of the epic Mahabharat. I really wanted to see more of him. His character is one of my favorites in the film. Vijay Sethupathi , Amitabh Bachchan both were amazing as well.

The first part of the film deals with life of Narasimha Reddy as chief but the second part takes on a larger view shows us the rebellion and the people involved.

There are many aspect of the film that I liked. Most noteworthy is that by the time the credit rolls it ignited a spark of patriotism and appreciation for people like Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy.

Similar films: Thugs of Hindostan, Kesari, Bahubali

Cheranjeevi's Back with a good movie - itsbymayank Mayank Bharat Bhushan Louteriya
mayanklouteriya7 October 2019
Sye raa Narasimha Reddy . We were three watching the movie everyone have different view. Interval time Behind us one was saying waste of money and after interval some people was satisfied somewhere and some was not. So we were three, 2/3 said after movie time pass and boring, I was saying good movie. See if you watch this movie and see all the things around movie, you'll remember Bahubali and start comparing both but both are different this movie is about freedom of Indian and true story, bahubali was fictional so can't compare. Acting/Stunts and Sound is good. Some Scenes are overhyped. Sometimes it bores too. That's it. . Watch it if u are fan of Cheeranjeevi or you like true stories of India's freedom. I'm not south indian but I like South Movies and I watched it 'coz its a true story somewhere. . - itsbymayank - Mayank Bharat Bhushan Louteriya

Standing Ovation to Chiranjeevi Sir
ItisAJ3 October 2019
One of the best movies from India based on a true story and a great balance of historical evidence and cinematic effects. Overall, standing ovation to Chiranjeevi Sir! No one else, even young actors cannot portray this character. Chiranjeevi Sir added his charisma and grace to the character and added more energy to the movie. Most people are saying slow start, but I think it is needed to build the stage for the actual story. There is no question that Chiranjeevi Sir deserves national award and movie should be selected to Oscars for best foreign movie category as well.

Else than Chiranjeevi
lonelysoul-982928 October 2019
Chiranjeevi's eyes are enough to prove the mammoth of mass and class. Flawless, energetic even at 60 you name it!After Rajinikanth and kamal hassan, he's among the aging yet ageless actors of South. Being grand in the budget, sye raa lacks the consistency in writing. Except Chiranjeevi, all other characters were thin and almost forgettable! The writing of the screenplay and shaping of the characters was so bad that when there is a threat to the protagonist and his allies, there is no sense of fear in the audience's mind because Narasimha Reddy is granted a Demi-god status so audience are just made to believe that he'll snap out of any threat even when the threat is colossal! But still for the gigantic production value, beautiful visuals, background score and of course for the megastar himself, the film is watchable even more than once despite the flaws in the writing!

#FinalVerdict

SyeRaa Narasimha Reddy is a king-sized extravaganza expressly designed to be a blockbuster. The scale is colossal, the plot is invigorating & the outcome leaves you mesmerized. Don't miss it!

It is an experience that should be enjoyed on the big screen.

Scale of ambition (Director: Surrender Reddy): Gargantuan.

Quality of VFX (R C Kamalakannan): Out of the ordinary.

Content (Paruchuri brothers): Gripping.

That, in a nutshell, is the epic SyeRaa Narasimha Reddy.

SyeRaa Narasimha Reddy manages to enchant you with its sheer scale & grandeur. Director Surrender Reddy has given acute attention to detail for the minutest of sound and visuals. He ensures that the larger-than-life execution matches his grandiose vision. Though this swashbuckling adventure relies heavily on CGI & VFX, SyeRaa Narasimha Reddy manages to be much more than a blood-soaked romp because it is seeped in Indian ethos while the drama is garnished with several awe-inspiring sequences & jaw-dropping visuals. The writing is smart & clever, the episodes are ingeniously integrated in the screenplay & the culmination leaves you spellbound. It has an unfaultable start, A1 middle and applaudable end, which is a rarity as far as Indian films go.

After watching the dubbed Hindi version, I feel that filmmakers should avoid dubbing films in different languages & rather release them with subtitles. The editing (Sreekar Prasad) could've been tighter as SyeRaa clocks on the dot at 170 minutes. The wondrous cinematography (R. Rathnavelu) and grandiose production design (Rajeevan) impart sheen & sparkle. Julius Packiam's BGM is electrifying. Lee Whittaker, Greg Powell & Ram Chella-Lakshman Chella's exhilarating action portions command repeat viewing.

Director Surrender Reddy is a consummate craftsman. He skilfully uses rousing BGM, slow-motion technology and several clap-trap moments to sweep you up in the filmmaking. An Indian filmmaker dared to dream & the results are for all to see.

SyeRaa has BRAVURA performances. Amitabh Bachchan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ravi Kishan, Jagapathi Babu, Vijay Sethupathi, Kiccha Sudeep, Nayanthara, Anushka Shetty, Mukesh Rishi, every actor triumphs. Megastar Chiranjeevi's sheer mien & intensity is a sight to behold. A committed, extraordinary act!

On the whole, SyeRaa Narasimha Reddy is a cinematic extravaganza, indeed. A big screen spectacle that will keep you hooked with some incredible characters that are sure to stay with you for a long, long time. A feast for moviegoers! Courage, bravery, valour, fearlessness, SyeRaa encompasses all this and more!

Soundly Patriotic Unsoundly Cinematic
srsaprba13 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
South Indian cinema for a long time has been under the shadow of Tamil films when it comes to large budget. Bahubali (2015, 2017) changed that to some extent. With Sye Ra, is center of gravity shifting to Telugu films? We do not know, but the mind boggling impact of the film can hardly be exaggerated.

This highly fictionalised hagiography of Narasimha Reddy who led a heroic rebellion against British in 1846 is imbued with such gravitas that Chiranjeevi excels in the role as no one could. He was ably supported by other stellar cast including Tamanna, Nayanatara, Amitabh and a host of others.

By British one should remember it was East India Company (EIC) which was the power, before control was acquired by the British Crown ten years later in the wake of the Sepoy Mutinee. The film in fact starts with Jhansi Laxmi Bai (Anushka Shetty in a guest role) referring to this episode as if to suggest this rebellion as the forerunner of the struggle that ultimately led to independence. This again was a concoction.

What is true is that EIC overhauled the traditional agrarian structures that played havoc with the farmers. In theory the changes were more egalitarian, but adversely affected everyone including relatively higher status section, 'polygars', to which Narasimha Reddy family belonged. Polygars' erosion of their status was one of the grievances against EIC. The popular resentment against British was harnessed by Narasimha Reddy who channeled this into a rebellion. This socio-economic context is missing from the film which depicted the situation as a part of freedom struggle against the exploitative British to free 'mother India'. This is like painting trees in a canvas but forgetting the ground. There was little unity among the polygars, let alone in wider India in the form of nationalism which did not evolve until much later. Nor was the notion of 'Bharatamaata' existent although Seetarama Sastry's grand song "pavithra dhaathri bharataamba muddhu biddavavura" evokes this.

Sye Raa rewrote history, not just in collections, but actual history. We learn that Narasimha Reddy beats even death at his birth, becomes a boy to be tutored by no less than Amitabh Bacchan to hone his vengeful sentiments against the British. The seer advises him that it was no use depending on muscle, one also needed this, pointing at his head. This advice was not all too well heeded by the director himself as there was more of muscle power than brain power on display, with lot of shouting, and even more shouting across both sides of the divide. This is a contest between little guy vs big guy, morality vs evil, and the audience would naturally root for the upright underdog. Add to this, the heady ingredient of patriotism, mythological bent of 'narasimha', you have an intoxicating movie formula. However, in an epic film of this scale, fighting a superior British force would call for superior tactics to outwit the former, requiring strategic thinking. But why should director waste time in thinking when he has no less than Chiranjeevi who could take on hundreds of opponents single handed, in standard Telugu film hero style? He doesn't, and the boy Narasimha Reddy evolves into a middle aged looking man in about fifteen minutes into nearly three hour film. The director was in hurry to get his main lead hit the ground running, literally. Sai Dharam Tej, who has striking similarities to Chiranjeevi could have filled in the youthful image for a brief period before bringing the big and aged Chiranjeevi to allow a better transition.

The hero is made to look superior with the usual device of making his opponents ridiculously cheap, with the British counterparts uttering inanities. This is a fatal flaw. Bellowing war cries, one character could be exchanged for the other without loss of generality. The characterization lacks depth with all major personalities resorting to theatricals rather than showing their strong personalities through their talking. This is a high decibel patriotism. Gandhi in Gandhi (1982) would be quite out of place in this film set. Ironic, considering the film was released in celebration of his 150th birth anniversary. Alternative would require high quality dialogue writing. Lacking this, the director fills this lacunae with action sequences.

That concept extends to female leads. Even in a historical film of this type, the director managed to please macho enthusiasm of Chiranjeevi's fans with customary multiple love interests - Tamanna and Nayantara. The former falls into the hands of British and the officer, upon learning of her love for Sye Raa, becomes forerunner of Gabbar Singh in 1975, ordering her to dance, that too nude (Gabbar Singh had better manners, but he is imbued with Indian values and they are dastardly British). She adapts a trick from Arundhati (2009) to weaponise her long garment to become a suicide bomber (talk of one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter!). This was however crass kinky notion, similar to Vijayashanti scene in Pratighatana (1985), no doubt, to create empathy for the victim. In another scene the British guy claims first night rights to newly wed girls,in lieu of taxation. Imagine a public policy set against such depravity. The fine print here is that Indians were not particularly fighting a worthy opponent, but a vastly inferior and depraved creature. What is so heroic in that? Gandhi would never agree to such a characterization of the British. Narasimha reddy - the original - must have fought a vastly superior enemy with high intelligence than the one shown in this historical perversion. In that sense, he and Gandhi are true heroes than the celluloid Sye raa, no matter how much the latter shouts patriotic slogans.

The second half of the film is devoted to some intrigue engineered to bring down the great man by his own people. At least this thread could have been developed to create a character based story line. This was not to be the case. Characters remain two dimensional, including Chiranjeevi who is three dimensional only physically, outshouting the British who, if not for the costumes, complexion, could be mistaken for another Rayalaseema faction with English accents. Yes, costumes! They are excellent, but the director Surender Reddy seems to imagine that a historical film is all about fitting exotic outfits to characters in the same way Sanjay Leela Bhansali did in Padmavat (2018), In the end, during the trial, the judge states that he would spare Sye Raa's life if he apologized. We know from Tagore (2003), 'apology' was the last word Chiranjeevi would like (and by this point it was through and through Chiranjeevi film), so he did not budge, accepting the consequences.

Excessive actions sequences have no novelty after Bahubali. One does not need another camera angle of gravity defying acrobatics of Chiranjeevi. No need of John Woo's pot boiler slow motion stunts which evoke a temporary high. A novel way of showing choreographing these could have been attempted. An example is Robin Hood (2018), also about a rebel fighting extortionist taxation (English against English, in this case). The choreographic talent, as often is the case, is expended in songs and dance, omitted from the essential item: battle scenes.

Alluri Seetarama Raju (1974, starring Krishna and Vijaya Nirmala) based on the eponymous leader of rebellion against the British was comparably a superior technical advance, being the first cinemascope film in Telugu. The characterisation of historical figures, one would hope, has progressed in the 45 years since then. This is not the case unfortunately. We see Chiranjeevi rather than Narasimhsa Reddy, Amitabh Bachhan rather than Guru Gosayi Venkanna - perhaps this is a reverse method acting. The action is outstanding under these constraints, but these great actors excel in their roles as a standard fare, thus this was no different.

This was a wasted effort in spite of its commercial success, and whatever loyal Chiranjeevi fans, or born again Chirjaneevi fans or neophyte fans claim. Chiranjeevi himself reportedly wanted to play a historical character. This film fulfills that wish and meant much to him. Now, who can be critical about this film? Chiranjeevi himself because he would know that people who actually love films will not come out of the film screening with that satisfaction one feels with the likes of missamma, nartanaSaala, maayaabaZaar, Lagaan, Gandhi, Wages of Fear, Spartacus, Dasboot, Zurrasic Park, Schindler's List, The God Father and so on. On those grounds, not a great film for the 'true film lovers' and the box office success does not match the real quality of film making. We are yet to see a world class film that matches high caliber potential of Chiranjeevi. Hopefully the commercial success of this spurs advances in that direction.

Completely Changed Story....Awful Direction and Story
satishm_us13 October 2019
The story is too much Fictionalised...and it is not near to the original story. Do u think Chiranjeevi is some Jetli fighting with a sword...shame on storywriter and photography. Though surender reddy a good director but not to his mark. The movie can be given 5/10 if u think it is just like a fiction story on Indian Independence. And amitabh need not to be present in the movie (wasted).

But i can give barely 2/10 Pros: Chiranjeevi Acting Cons: Story, direction

Blockbuster Syeraa - It is Surender Reddy not Surrender reddy
hindurajyam3 October 2019
Syeraa Narasimha Reddy is a superb movie based on the real life story of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy although with cinematic liberties. Chiranjeevi shows why he is a megastar. Surender Reddy is a gem of a director. Tamannah's dance & role is spectacular.

Everyone should watch this movie on the first civil rebellion of India.

arjun-tkalathil3 October 2019
Its a story of syraa narasimha reddy and its just a chiranjeevi show.Thamanna scored in many parts and sudeep too just a small score. While other castings were just for promotions. The first half and interval was good and coming to the second half,it became predictable (nothing engaging).Atlast as a viewer of the movie i can say this movie is just an entertainer and just a one time watchable movie.
