You will see Ronnie Coleman a different way
greenbizkit3320 April 2021
I think it was going be all about his prime. But it was more about his struggles now. It was very interesting to see him push himself through all the pain. Besides from hand full of clips of Ronnie Coleman I have not seen him talk that much. He comes off as very nice and likeable person.

A good insight into obsession
tommaidment-6795531 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Enjoyable documentary and huge respect to Ronnie and his commitment to his career. It was interesting to see that there was no mention of any anabolic drug use throughout the documentary. In my opinion there is no way you can possibly be and get that big and strong naturally. Either way a good insight into a career of a dedicated and driven human being.

This guy is awesome
brett-7626027 October 2018
If you want to watch something that will inspire you this documentary will certainly do it. You don't have to be a body builder fan to appreciate this mans story and the struggles he faces today. He always has a smile on his face no matter what and his story will move you. If you didn't know who Ronnie was 15 years ago you will certainly become a fan of his now. Great documentary and worth watching. Ronnie you're an awesome human being...

Very Inspiring
Truth_In_Review4 November 2018
I have been a gym rat for almost 20 years and I know of Ronnie Coleman. I always knew that he was a beast on the circuit and a legend in the bodybuilding world. However, I did not think that this movie would show you the man that was Ronnie Coleman. You can check my reviews and I am normally very critical, but this film really reached me. I highly recommend it. Ronnie Coleman is a great man. This documentary showed that, his will, and problems after competing.

The Elephant in the Room !!!
Jay_Rusty26 November 2020
No, i'm not making a reference to Ronnie's size, i'm obviously referring to STEROIDS. How are you going to do a bodybuilding documentary and not talk about steroids? People watching this will believe that they can achieve success in this sport/business just by eating, training and being genetically gifted, but what about STEROIDS!

An inspiration, A family man, the greatest body biker of all time
emily-myles29 June 2018
Such a fantastic documentary, the B.B. world is normally closed to outsiders, I felt this was moving, inspiring and honest. The sport can be brutal, hard work and devastating, this also shows a soft side to the big guys. Definitely worth the watch!

By the end I learned less about Ronnie's bodybuilding and more about his wife and kids.
zoradekugyorg28 December 2019
The director dips a toe in the interesting pool of subject matter, then drags it out and swims in dull, conversation with hardly enough footage

Ronnie Coleman has a pretty interesting life story.. and you think putting together a documentary about his fall into being crippled with commentary from several other bodybuilders would be interesting.. but it's not. Mainly because the direction the director takes is all wrong. I feel like the director got just 20 minutes of footage, and added fillers to meet a deadline and make the film.

To make my point, there is a lot of fillers in the documentary like Ronnie asking his kids after he picked them up from daycare if they brought a jacket and having a discussion. Then there's an entire scene I skipped where the wife is talking about her life and the kids personalities. The backstory of Ronnie is told from photos that pop up while Ronnie is narrating from his house. Then all the interesting moments like the Olympia contests are skipped over or show very little footage, or quick camera shots of his metroflex gym. They also show the interviewers talking a lot to fill more time as well. Example: "I heard you have your own gym". Ronnie:"yeah wanna see it?" Interviewer" "yeah let's see it" then a minute footage of them walking to the gym.. but then 10 seconds of footage of the actual gym. The order of scenes could've been inrpoved too. You learn an important detail in the beginning of the film before the film leads up to it. The story of Ronnie is way more interesting. Here is how it could've been improved:

Focus a lot more on the surgeries and his weakness. Focus on the Olympia contests Show videos of his police station or more videos of him working on the force Show videos of his hometown or visit locations with Robbie, rather than talking about them. Ask better questions, like "did you do steroids?" Rather than learning about his supplement line business, are there any pitfalls or drama regarding this? The film steps into it but then drags it's foot out. The interviews are scattered and boring as hell.. streamline this and make it better. Add some music or something. Add footage! Show more of metroflex, machines, other people using weights, etc.

by the end of it I learned very little and felt like I wasted my time. Luckily I skipped the scenes of his wife talking about what her kids like to do for fun or what she does to spare some time. I learned what I could've learned on Wikipedia in about 5 -10 minutes.

Bonus round . Actual scene from the movie that proves it's dullness paraphrased:

Ronnie: I ate pizza at work because it was free. I got tired of eating pizza. I called up the burger place and asked if they were tired of burgers. The said yeah.. I said I was tired of pizza. I went to go work at the burger place for free burgers.. I got sick of eating burgers. I called up the chicken place next door, hey you tired of eating free chicken? Yeah I'm tired of eating free burgers. So I went to work at the chicken place.. this scene is actually much longer and dragged out.

Such a good doco
mitchmenghi4 November 2018
For the first time you get to see the real Ronnie Coleman. In him tribulations and pain. An uncanny doco account of him fame to glory. If you want to achieve gayness be prepared for the hardship that follows. Loved this doco.

Come on
Nevergivea1010 May 2022
You have the biggest human ever falling apart physically in his 50s. But yet the word steroids is never mentioned - not once. They insinuate he got that big from a strict diet and exercise routine. It's not a documentary if you aren't honest and explore all the possible reasons for his physical demise.

Yeah Buddy!: Unmatched work ethic and personality!
KinoBuff202113 October 2022
I've heard of Ronnie Coleman. I've seen YouTube videos detailing his workouts, shows and just overall demeanor. But I never knew Ronnie Coleman like this documentary shows.

From his humble beginnings to his meteoric rise and finally to his current day self which is both a shell of his former-self as well as the same man loved by all he meets. This doc covers Coleman's life and his work ethic that led to his downfall but is what keeps him going to this day despite the injuries.

Ronnie Coleman's workouts are intense but his personality is the most sincere and respectable as someone can be. I think anyone can be inspired by this doc to better them selves and see how perseverance can lead to eventual success.

A bit slow and boring, not one mention of steroids?
prozach-7466523 September 2022
Ronnie seems like a really good, nice, intelligent guy, and nice to learn his backstory. The documentary itself was pretty slow though, and not all that captivating. I had to laugh when Ronnie said he's never done drugs. I mean... Maybe not those kinds Ronnie, but cmon... But not once are steroids ever mentioned, instead they repeatedly insinuate over and over again that it's his diet and hard work that took him up to 300 lbs at age 40 and made him look like a cartoonish balloon. Many of the bbers look awful and bloated in their old age in the doc because of what they've done to their bodies. But not one mention. The general public is incredibly naive about the massive levels of steroids all these guys do (see how many Google hits ask if Ronnie has ever done steroids... Like... You're not sure??) The least they could do is just be honest.

One of the most inspiring docu I ever seen
fajarsantoso31 March 2021
By far on of the most inspiring documentary I have seen. To see what Ronnie Coleman achieved, both for himself as a bodybuilder and for his family, and the challenges he now faces due to his back injury but remains positive is just astonishing. Most people would feel sorry for themself if they would be in the same situation like Ronnie but Ronnie still has this fighter mentality. And it was exactly this fighter mentality that made him Mr. Olympia 8 times and he will always be known as one of the best bodybuilder ever.

What a way to mess up your body. Ronnie seems great person but he's a mess now and it's a shame to see
James_Denton4 June 2022
Almost all people want that perfect body, but this documentary really proves the saying 'everything in moderation'.

Watching the documentary I found myself liking Ronnie Coleman. He seems a decent person who pushed himself to be the very best possible....

.... but it appears to have come at a price.

5 out of 10. An interesting watch.

Nothing Exciting
ricochet93-369-3088024 February 2020
Ronnie seems like a nice humble guy. But that's not enough to base 90 minutes of a program on. No hard questions, no mention of steroids.

A man who was extreme in his bodybuilding and is s cripple as a result...that's pretty much it.

Not strong enough to tell the truth
bradywins9 November 2021
Watched the Ronnie Coleman doc on Netflix and one thing's clear: The truth wasn't told. Or even mentioned.

No body-builder gets this cartoonishly huge without the help of steroids. No one. Even Coleman himself knows that.

And yet, throughout this sham of a documentary, the subject of steroids is never explored on camera. Obviously, Coleman and his team made it a stipulation in order to get this doc produced and to have this kind of access to Coleman.

Like Arnold, Coleman no doubt worked his tail off in the weight room to win Mr. Olympia. But, like Arnold, he cheated, obtaining a ridiculously better physique through chemistry.

I would have had more respect for Coleman if he had fessed up to the fact.

Finally something decent from the GI fitness network
dreamwalk198612 March 2019
In my personal, and many others opinion that I have spoken with. The only good product that Vlad Yudin / Generation Iron fitness network have done is the very first Generation Iron documentary. Prior to and since then it's been absolute trash. this however is pretty decent, nothing great, but decent and I would recommend watching it for anyone interested in sports/bodybuilding or a good character study, 5/10.

8x Mr. Olympia champion
markdr35 February 2020
Does Mr. Coleman really share an 8x Olympia champion record with someone else or is he the sole owner of this tremendous accomplishment?

Below is a quote from IMDB's summary on this documentary.

"Ronnie Coleman is known as "The King" and for good reason. He is the 8x Mr. Olympia champion in the world of bodybuilding - sharing the world record for most Olympia wins."
