Best AOS Episode Yet
burkhartonline26 March 2018
The most gut-wrenching episode of the series so far. Iain De Caestecker (Fitz) steals the show as he once again plays a dual role. His personal demons add a truly nightmarish aspect to the episode. Bits and pieces of General Hale's plan, and the surprise return of a villain from a previous season add to the mayhem and suspense. And Chloe Bennet will break your heart when... oops! No spoilers, please. Trust me, you don't want to miss this episode. Early on in season 5 they got a bit bogged down in the story line. But the last few, especially this one, have made the wait worthwhile. Truly great television by any standard.

Dark Twist

Warning: Spoilers
I like how they didn't make this reveal straightforward and hopeful like "i'm your grandson." Instead, they made it so indirect and heartbreaking yet bittersweet. Sorry Breaking Bad and Person of Interest, Agents of SHIELD has taken over you as my best tv series.

Is a great episode, better yet on re-watch

This is an amazing episode, just when I thought the show can no longer surprise me they pull this, unbelievable! I must start my praise of the episode by thanking God for the gift that is Iain De Caestecker what a phenomenal actor! every simple move and facial expression was on point, re-watching this episode is even more interesting because you see the subtility of the performance. The episode focuses a lot on Fitz, we see him at the beginning (even last episode) showing signs of fatigue, frustration and absolute desperation, he is prime for a nervous breakdown, the signs are there, his conversations with the doctor do reveal that he understands what is up at a certain level. I love the writing in this episode, because it is manipulative in some places, but they do give a lot of clues but not enough to make it obvious, the best clue is Daisy saying who are you talking to and it is placed few seconds before the reveal so you have just enough time to catch on that there is something wrong, perfectly timed. I love the moral ambiguity of the whole thing too, Fitz is presented with a world ending event that he can't solve, he subconsciously realizes that he needs to do something horrible to stop it, so he manifests a persona that can do it for him, but in the end he comes face to face with what he has to do and decides to go through with it because he is just unable to solve this problem in any other way. I love the way Deke describes him in the end, as having the whole weight of the world on his shoulder, and ultimately that otherwise admirable trait causes him to go down this dark path. This single shift makes Fitz and the show even more interesting as we delve into this grey area of how far is too far to go to save the world and the last scene between Deke and Jemma was a nice narrative tool to show us that Fitz will be alright in the future. I also really loved the cinematography this episode, the scene where Fitz stands in front of the window and you see his reflection next to Jemma is so meaningful. The other parts of the episode are great too, there is a small scene in this episode that I really love , it is when Mack reaches out to touch Ypyo's hand only to realize it's not there, so heartbreaking! we also get the return of the Russian and some clues as to what Hale's plan is. though those parts pale in comparison to fitz's plot line in this episode.

Fitz is, as usual, amazing. Perfect amount of drama for ramping up to the last leg of the season! Can't wait to see what will happen.

Best episode ever

Poor Fitz. That guy has been through the ringer! A homicidal Inhuman experimental doctor and scientist, performing inhumane experiments on innocent subjects, then having to mentally DEAL with those choices after the fact. Wow! Iain De Caestecker is a brilliant actor! Believable and heartbreaking! I give this episode a 10 because personally I think it deserves it!!!!

Also I'm pretty shocked that we go to only see some old characters from Season 2, and now that was pretty awesome. Including that man, well actually I should say the inhuman whoever touches metal turns into a metal man and then turns back into a regular human again. Also when I both saw the promo and this episode I saw the inhuman metal having bombs strapped around him and then exploded, I was like all wow and, I wonder if he's ok as well. Well see you all next week then.

The Devil Complex

Warning: Spoilers
One Fitz is bad enough, but two of them? Okay, it wasn't really two of Fitz, but to the viewers for a point of time it felt that way.

The show did give us something here, but these constant twists and turns and questions of allegiance to SHIELD and the group are tiring. We know the main gang is all good, stop trying to make us doubt that. Draw drama from elsewhere.

And in season 5 they have brought it all back. I know now why I stopped watching, and so did millions of others.

Beautiful!

Writing and acting was powerful enough to make me write a review about this episode! Such an emotional rollercoaster that episode was. You understand what Fitz did, and trying to accept he did the right thing there but you still feel guilty about it. The reveal at the end was perfect, I can't even imagine how could Deke reveal that better. The episode is perfect.
