I've been screaming "sh*t, sh*t, sh*t!!" alone in my room because of how good this episode was

Fitz is by far my favorite SHIELD character and I think Iain is one of the best actors around, so this episode was just perfect for me. I also love Hunter and hated it when he and bobby left, so seeing him back was great! The duo have great chemistry and there were both funny moments and heartwarming ones and the action on this episode was pretty amazing too! (I don't want to spoil anything, but there are some twists that made it even more amazing). I gotta admit, after last episode, I was bummed that we weren't going to see what happened next, but instead go back to the present, but in the end the episode didn't disappoint! I was so entertained by it that I didn't realize 40 minutes had already gone by! All in all, great performances, dialogue, action and ending!!!! Fitz's character development just keeps getting better and better! I need to see what they have planned for him! I can't wait to see what will happen next! I love this show!

I was starting to lose interest, and then...

Season five so far has seemed like one long expositional soliloquy about a dark, Kree-ruled future that can't possibly last past this half of the season. Despite Quake's extraordinary powers, there seems to always be some contrived reason why she can't use them. True again here. And, it doesn't make for an interesting problem for our heroes to solve, it's just frustrating. As for the Kree, Kasius is particularly exhausting as the predictably narcissistic, ruthless and sociopathic ruler of the human slave colony. His head of security, less so. But then, enter Fitz. FINALLY. And he has some Jason Bourne in him as a result of his life in The Framework. In fact, Fritz is a frickin' badass and it suits him extremely well.

Also highly welcome is the return of Lance Hunter, who's untimely exit from the series, along with fabulous Bobbi Morse, for a planned but cancelled spinoff has left a gap in the ensemble. Why they don't just bring these two back is a mystery. Perhaps Adrianne Palicki's role in The Orville prevents this. Lance and Fitz together are fun, especially as Fitz's super agent qalities begin to emerge, and the season starts to feel for the first time like the upbeat and adventurous series I was beginning to miss!

Of course it's great

This episode is wonderful because it focuses almost exclusively on Fitz. He is probably my favorite character. The episode starts off with him going to a facility where he's spent six months trying to find out what happened to the other characters. Initially, his captors think he knows more but allow him to study even though he ultimately fails to come up with a solution. He gets out with help from his lawyer and meets an alien named Enoch.

He shows Fitz that his friends were taken 74 years into the future and the only chance they have of meeting up is finding his spaceship. Here's the best part. They find the spaceship but can't find a time to travel through time. Instead, Fitz volunteers to simply have himself frozen until the time is right. The character studies in this episode are great and we get a great clear understanding of what's going on. This currently has a perfect score and allow me to keep that up as long as possible. ****

I think this might be the best episode - if you love nostalgia

I absolutely loved this episode! The return of Lance was so good. In the midst of everything just always happening at once, the team hasn't had a break in a looonng time, it was such a good episode as it broke the happenings in the future with some good old best buddies reuniting. And one of the best things, is that the Brit and Scot are amazing talents and have gorgeous accents.

I really hope both Lance and Bobbi will come back, this episode just showed how great it has been before with the light and humouristic Lance by the team's side. Fitz, along with Simmons, is the best character in the team, and Iain de Caestecker is such a great actor, which you'll really see in the next episode. He really brings it all, and makes you really feel what the character is feeling. I hope he and Elizabeth Henstridge get more scenes together, I feel deprived of their character's friendship and relationship.

Re-watch thoughts

After a series of depressing gloomy episodes, we get an episode that is only depressing half the time and an absolute blast the other half! Rewind as the name suggest turns back the clock to show us Fitz's journey all the time he was not with the time, and it offers crucial plot points, necessary context, heart, amazing performances (seriously, Iain is an acting legend and people who don't recognize his talent need their eyes checked), fun action and a dose of nostalgia, Fitz and Hunter are friendship goals! And I thought I missed Hunter before the episode, I had no idea how much! The episode also features some nice touches and callbacks, Robin coming back was quite the interesting turn of events because it ties back to an older episode while giving it a new meaning. The effects of the framework on Fitz are very well done, we see Fitz becoming more aggressive and quicker to action, you could even see it in the smaller details of Iain's performance (hence, legend!). There is a throw away line here that is actually foreshadowing for a thing to come, it left me amazed at how seamless the writing is on the show. I also liked the two FBI agents tasked with Fitz as they actually had some character to them, particularly the female agent asking Fitz if he was OK when she thought the pressure was getting to him! I have one small nitpick with the episode, there is a shot of soldiers shooting on a plane that looked silly, but really, it's one second in a stellar 42 minutes, I'll let it pass!

Thank God or the writers

This episode was badly needed after the previous one. Hunter being back was awesome, the comic relief was a breath of fresh air. I loved the bro-mance between Fitz & Hunter.

yes!! yes!! but, and Boba Fett
parrishka1 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
So I agree with all that has been said here. The Empire Strikes back reference, when Fitz was being Cryo'd was what brought me here, cause I needed to share that, and yes, I almost cried. But can we also tie that in to the previous episode, where he was a Leia/Boba Fett bounty hunter in that mask?

Much love for all of that.

And here's the "but."

One of Joss Whedon's strengths is weaving exposition into a sci-fi narrative almost seamlessly. And, let's face it- in sci-fi, that's the greatest challenge. You have to establish a world. Buffy was more difficult because it was the first of the popular vampire tv narratives, so while he didn't have to establish being a high school student, he had to set his vampire perameters. Firefly was flawless. And now, Mutant Enemy is back in space again. But Joss isn't at the helm. It's Maurissa Tanchauroen and Jed Whedon's project. And they have a heck of a lot to deal with. And they cleverly use sympathetic characters like Tess (Yay, Maya from 100!) to tell us that- "you don't know what's happening here." " you don't realize."

So ease up on them. They're still developing characters. They're still making with the funny. And that opening scene in episode 1? I was worried that I'd "accessed" a bad copy. But now I know that I didn't? Talking Heads? How perfect! What a beautiful avant risk.

I didn't realize how much I missed Lance Hunter. The first 4 episodes were dark and gloomy but this one was much more fun.

Rewind
bobcobb30110 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This was obviously not as good as the episode where Simmons is alone on the planet for months trying to find a way home, but this clear homage to that hour led to the best offering of the season. I didn't think we needed a return from THAT former character, but I guess he played off Fitz well.

A good episode, but this show still is way overrated.
