Good Suspense and Delivery
Hitchcoc18 July 2019
I wish I had expertise in munitions and other details that are being under attack. I realize that those attacking the show are digging into their scientific knowledge. I respect that, but let's face it. It's a TV show that deals in suspense and confrontation. We have a bad guy. He is what he is; not what we want him to be. That's the setup for the President, a fictional President on a TV show. I'm sure there are doctors that pick apart details on doctor shows. There are lawyers who pick apart courtroom dramas. There is an effort to put a show on every week. The minutia is for those so submerged in their own expertise to forget about a basic plot. That plot is weak at times and the President is a bit of a windbag. Criticize the writing. Criticize the acting.

Warning: Spoilers
Our fiend wanted revenge and did some horrible things due to his father's death? Hard to fathom.

Kirkman's mother-in-law looked just awful in that dress she was originally to wear at the Press Ball. Her being a potential victim from our fiend was also hard to take.

Kirkman's political adviser is a little bit too much to take. He mumbles and references other things to something else.

The Press Secretary's jokes were not funny and there could have certainly been more excitement had our fiend gone through with his threat.

Kirkman's first lady seems to have taken a back-drop since the new season started and his children appear to be non-existent as well.

Sting of the Tail

Warning: Spoilers
Designated Survivor followed up a weak season premiere with an even weaker episode here tonight. Maggie Q has had some good roles and performances in the past, but Hannah just isn't working on this show. It's the same problem Agent Memphis has on Shooter.

This show should either stick to politics or focus on the action. Right now the balance isn't working and it is hurting both of those aspects of the show.

Poorly conceived and written

Warning: Spoilers
Where to start. So many factual mistakes. Sarin is a chemical nerve weapon, not a biological weapon. A general would never say "nitrogen based explosives." Almost all explosives contain nitrogen. A phosphorus reagent? Maybe in a really tech sense, but in this context it's extremely awkward language, much like most of the dialog, which is way too unnatural. It's like West Wing lite, really lite. Way too cute for this drama. I love the premise for this show, but this episode sucked. Even the terrorist's motive was wrapped up in an unsatisfying way, again to cute. How could he inspire a huge conspiracy based on his father's death?

Bad

I couldn't take it when in season 2, episode 2, they couldn't literally say in court that they have a well-founded basis that Mr. Loyd is going to use the gas... BECAUSE THERE IS LITERALLY A VIDEO OF HIM SAYING SO!

Ridiculous, but somehow watchable

Like the rest of the series, the suspension of disbelief required to watch is immense. This episode also required setting aside one's logic and reason.

As usual the writing was sappy and melodramatic. The characters cartoonish. The CGI weak at best. The acting by many was wooden...stilted. But then again, the script was terrible making the actors' job impossible.

Nonetheless, the fast pace and silly drama did manage to keep my interest through the entire episode.

This series is based on an interesting premise and had the potential to be great. Unfortunately the execution was less than mediocre in all aspects.
