Ummmm... yeah...

Borderline horror version of "The Room" with awful acting, props, effects, plot, camera work, editing, and just about everything else BUT you can't look away as the incredibly strange acting of the lead is jaw droppingly odd, leaving you to wonder if she's mentally ill or that was just a gonzo choice. The circular story is sort of okay, if just so amateurishly done that it all falls flat. You're bound to get a lot of laughs though, so it's a perfect party movie.

Greatest Comedy Ever

Someone said "let's take the worst script, the worst actors, the worst quality and make a comedy that's supposed to be a horror story.

Solid enough indie effort with some flaws
kannibalcorpsegrinder17 September 2020
Trying to work on a new project, a woman uncovers a strange cassette tape that leads her into discovering the legend of a time-traveling sorcerer who imprinted an evil spell on a video-tape to spread his evil throughout time, and realizing she's caught in his web of evil tries to stop it.

This was a pretty decent if flawed indie effort. Among it's better features is a rather enjoyable setup that brings about some genuinely creepy elements. The main thing is the gradual uncovering of the mystery surrounding the demonic figure, from the backstory of the tape and the visuals presented on the video combining nicely to make for a great starting point. The legend it tells is quite chilling about the sorcerer and his devious minions keeping him alive throughout history and gets the film going quite nicely. As well, the other really enjoyable element here is the series of supernatural attacks that spring forth once she's been targeted by the sorcerer. Relying on a near-continuous assault of scenes where people turn around and reveal themselves to be involved with the demonic pact by ripping their face off or attacking her suddenly with threatening weapons causing her to become paranoid and constantly freaked-out. This is realistic and quite enjoyable to see play out as the graphic gore here comes off with a lot to like overall. There are a few issues with this one. One of the biggest drawbacks to this one is the overt and obvious low-budget tone that manages to become quite ever-present throughout here. Not only is the low-quality production style evident but numerous other indie factors are found here, from the general lack of purpose behind many of the scenes which seem to have little reason for being there, inane conversations and set-pieces supposedly intended to give depth to the characters but instead have little interest at all and very little rhyme or reason for being included. The other problem with the film is a wholly confusing final act that doesn't make any sense at all. As the allegiances shift and turn unexpectedly, the shock of their true nature is supposed to blind you to the fact that these don't make any logical sense, much like the existence of the cult that comes out of nowhere and is then summarily killed off without incident. Combined with an overlong and meandering finale that just keeps going and doesn't know when to end things, these aspects are what hold the film back the most.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language, Graphic Violence, Full Nudity and mild drug use.

Not a movie
jessicartim2 July 2020
This is not a real movie, this is "me and friends messing around with camera on weekend" type of deal. From acting, script, camera work to characters everything is just dreadful or non existent. Respect your time, do not watch this "project".

Utter dross

Where do I start. Ok, acting .....Not really sure there was any. Script? Same again. Direction, camera work, lighting, editing? Think again. By far the worst film I have ever attempted to watch. Time to find another career for all involved.

Acting was horrific! These people need to leave the field now! I've never seen anything this bad. Even school kids can do better than this.

Weird
BandSAboutMovies24 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I kind of love that this movie takes a page out of Driller Killer and demands that "This movie should be played loud."

The spiraling narrative is all about Sonja, a college student who somehow has found a movie that is five hundred years old that contains the spirit of the demonic sorcerer Var, after which all hell breaks loose.

This was written and directed by Nicholas Kleban, who made several shorts before this movie. I kind of want to talk to Nicholas, because he somehow made a movie that has everything I hate about streaming movies and everything I love about low budget weirdness all in the same film.

I hate scenes that go nowhere. I love when drugs are done in every scene of a movie. I hate when people take scenes from old movies. Yet I kind of love that this film's Bloodsucking Freaks/Blood Feast theater was basically located in a two or three-seat dinner theater. I hate found footage movies. I love that this movie has found footage from a half-millennium old VHS player.

I mean, it has a reference to Inferno and this astounding explanation for a plot: "After doing some research, she discovers it is allegedly a film from the year 1594, made by the time-traveling sorcerer Var who harvested film equipment from the future and imprinted his spirit onto a roll of celluloid, and watching the film will release him. After dismissing this as nonsense, the seemingly invincible Var appears before Sonja and begins relentlessly attacking her." Who would come up with this?

I don't think I can be relied upon to rate this movie on any scale other than to say that you should watch it and try to make sense of the plot along with me. Any movie that leaves you with this many questions has to be doing something right on some level.

Weird Film
Brittany22462216 December 2021
I don't know where to begin with this. The Camera work is bad, some shots are out of focus, angles are off, some bad choice edits, as well I felt none of these actors had experience. The only good character who you could tell had acting experience was Elmer. The writing is odd ball for sure, and to be honest I don't think would fly well with most people. The jokes could be offensive to some and I guess it's a niche kind of style. This really felt like someone was like hey lets grab a cam recorder and make a film with friends. The audio is definitely not remixed you can tell the levels change and are not consistent. The story is also problematic a lot of the jokes and dialogue are just off to me? The story needs a major overhaul to be decent.

Horrible student film
Seb-Neg18 February 2022
This movie has the vibe of a student movie made using $500 and a camcorder, using very outdated visual effects,, really if you are using rubber props, make sure you either make them hyper realistic or don't film the movie in HD, the audio was crap, I give the sound department a big fat F. Knowing that this was a student film, why did it made it out of the classroom?

Why can't I give this "movie" no stars?
farleym-1944219 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I gave this movie one star as a way of showing my appreciation for not having any nude scenes during the moments I could force myself to watch. Not bad enough to be entertaining, merely bad enough to be bad. Special effects all done on a budget of less than $7.00. All the actors seemed be suffering as much being in this production as I was watching it.

The best worst film you'll see in years
Greywolf90716 July 2020
Pure enjoyment from the get go! Rubbish acting, rubbish actors, laughable script and premis.... Who cares about the lighting and special effects.... It's a joy to behold. They probably had a budget of a hundred bucks and still had enough for a booze up at the end. Just brilliant dross and all the more entertaining than loads of films that cost like ten thousand times as much to produce. It's lockdown, the world is closed, grab a few beers and sit down and have a hoot and a half. I can't believe other reviewers have given it the thumbs down, films are about entertainment, and this one sure as hell entertained me! Go for it!

FF through to the end of this time travel movie - it sure went fast!
kennethkrabat10 March 2022
  • but first I had to realise that it was all intentional - in that no one had a shred of talent OR simple knowledge of HOW TO FAKE IT. Script, sound editing, camera, and acting, oh acting! You know, where you go by method and put on an observed real life character's ways and modes or you practice stance, walking, talking, mimics and gestures from observing yourself or other actors - that acting. But neither is this movie.

Sorry, hard pass. Only excuse: It's a Time Travel movie. You know:

2019 I The Kingdom of Var II 81 min I dir. Nicholas Kleban I Magic, Time Traveller I 21st century I NOTE: Student film.

Absolutely genius

So happy I watched it. It's become one of my favourite films. The actors are passionate and talented people, the characters are unintentionally hilarious. Elmer is 10/10 boyfriend material.
