It takes the Micky out of itself.

It did make me laugh, it managed to poke fun of itself, other shows, and the industry in general, easy to mistake it for desperation, it was funny, cleverly written, and contained some very funny moments. It's not vintage, but it wasn't far off. 8/10

Needed to be made. Needed.

This episode is such a long time coming. It's AWESOME how Family Guy can create humour on its own identity as a show in a way that sort of socks it to the haters but is also self-deprecating.

FG is one of the most audacious and pioneering shows on TV and it deserves recognition (once it stops those horrific flatulent jokes) but people won't recognise it because it's so ahead of its time. Maybe. I dunno...

This week our heroes took an axe to the culture of media awards, wittily demolishing the shows that get this critical approval without missing a note. I love how they send up and mock the formulas of serious things but never without a sort of loving contempt.

it's sort of a trio of stories but we also get a wraparound that makes the whole thing run as one smooth crusade against the snobs. I have mixed feelings about Clare from Modern Family just not getting FG but once again I do respect FG for actually giving the enemy a voice. That is a real credit it them in my opinion.

Amazing episode

The best that Family Guy can give. A really accurate and merciless satire of other TV shows. The Family Guy cast is great at pointing flaws, bad writing and incoherencies in those other shows. The use of cutaways is smarter than usual. While Family Guys has never been a really "smart" show - except every now and then - and the humor has always been more slapstick, zany and raw... this is the political commentary and satire that the simpsons are lacking since years. Breath of fresh air for the show.

Great episode.

This episode is full of cheap reference shots aimed at other shows and it's so awesome!! regardless of what you think of Seth you have to give him credit for laughing at himself.

Funniest Yet

I love Family Guy and Modern Family as well as all of the other parodied shows in this episode and they did a fantastic job. I have not laughed more at a show than I did at this. If Family Guy stick to this level of funny we'll get the show we loved back.

It was funny and the guest stars were so funny and they all parodied themselves which was lovely

Awesome episode of Family Guy
checkinac1 October 2017
The season 16 premier was hilarious. I love the way how the Griffins satire the other Emmy award shows with their over the top craziness. I can't wait to watch the rest of the 16th season. It's more funnier than last season's premier. I really hope that Family Guy goes back to its roots and be smarter with its audience and finally give their repetitive unlikable "fans" and "critics" actually what they deserve. The show is still great, but the "fans" of this show suck since the show's return. The same fans who consistently complain about every little flaw Family guy has in their episodes since day one makes me sick. I hope the writers do an episode of the fans being called out on their crap. The critics as well because they suck too. Prince1958, I agree with you on the show's discontinuity and lack of intelligent plots instead mediocre interchangeable uncle jokes like they always do. I'm also calling out the writers for being stupid hacks as well. South Park does everything way better than Family Guy.

An episode that gave me many laughs!
sexystarwarslover6 October 2017
So over the last few months, I've fallen out with catching up with the show due to getting into other shows and that it hasn't been airing much here and so when I saw that s16 was starting here this week I was excited and after seeing the episode, I was pleasantly surprised and saw that this was the show I remembered! just laughs and shots at other TV shows Maybe it's also cause I love award shows and saw the Emmys so seeing all the shows was just genius and Peter trying desperately to win an Emmy though poor Meg she is put down still! The use of the other shows to mash up Family Guy was hilarious - the Game of thrones part cracked me up! The very end with Ty Burrell I laughed so hard it was brilliant he is one of my favorites on modern family. I can watch this episode again! it was brilliant!! cannot wait for the rest of the season!

Emmy Winning Episode
bobcobb3011 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Some of the parodies missed the mark (The Wire, Homeland, Modern Family) and some of the cartoons did not look at all like the actor (I thought Bill Maher was James Woods returning and I thought Alec Baldwin was John Goodman) but this was a clever way to start the season.

Even though Julie Bowen was right and Family Guy doesn't win because it doesn't deserve it, they tried something outside the box and it worked. It wasn't that funny, but it was proof that there's a reason we are all glad this show is still on the air to mock the things that need mocking.

Uuuhh ... what?
reallynoreilly2 October 2017
There have been episodes which the family were self-aware of being 'Family Guy'. This kind of takes it to a whole new level. I did chuckle a few times but there have been far more funnier episodes than this.

Oddly enough they seem to take a job not only at Hollywood and the Emmy's but also their liberal portrayals. It was odd seeing Seth MacFarlane, a renounced liberal Hollywood snob as they come, take a jabat an even larger establishment he apparently isn't apart of. I'm notknocking it down for that however. It mostly has to do with the factthat I feel like in a much larger sense the show and its creations havebecome too involved and self-aware of their actions ... when in thebeginning it was the opposite.

The jokes were a hit and miss. Sometimes they seemed to do things for the shock value, as they always do, but rarely do they try anything truly intelligent or witty. One of the earliest jokes in this episode revolves around the gag of everybody throwing up. And the breaking part of the episode just has Peter on a computer researching Emmy winners. Too many celebrity cameos that appeared for no real reason. Family Guy knows they won't win an Emmy ... but they had to remind everybody when they shouldn't.

really an emmy winning episode
patres-072989 November 2020
I consider myself as an astonishing movie and tv-shows reviewer. Honestly, Ive watched a lot of Family Guy (all episodes, really, even those you havent watched) and for a fan, this really is for sure an emmy winning episode. It really is my favorite, it is a very funny episode, and, most "family guy episode" (yes, I just used the name of the show as an adjective), 10/10 really

One joke went too far..

Other than that, the concept of a negative emmy was pretty silly.

"Robot chicken is a kids cartoon that airs at 1AM on adult swim." I'm sure there's a minority of the audience who took this seriously.

It's like they're self aware that kids accidentally watch this stuff.

Lame episode. Copying won't help to get more viewers. It's amazing TV Series but it should be original.

Funny concept, poorly executed
arelz9815 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is self-awareness at its finest. The Griffin family plans to win an Emmy by trying to copy top quality TV shows like Breaking Bad, Modern Family etc.

In terms of comedy, the show does a good job parodying the TV shows they are trying to copy from. The whole framework story of the Griffins begging for an Emmy and at the same time criticizing their own show's lack of quality in recent years worked really well.

However, I also wished the episode managed to keep the thread of the premise. Unfortunately, the plot just jumped from one parody to another and then back again and eventually ended up concluding the framework story.

All in all, a solid episode with a funny and realistic concept but chaotically constructed.
