A promising movie...but then...
ravenhair70219 August 2020
This movie had potential, it really had that rear window feel...mysterious neighbor moves in across the street and it happens to be a pretty girl who looks by all means to be a prisoner of her own home by her abusive step-father. Has some good suspense and close calls. The acting was good and I was really getting into it...until the movie ended. How can a movie with good actors and a good plot be ruined by very lame and cheesy CGI. Honestly the worst. I hope I didn't give away too much, but it's hard to describe without giving away some details. 3.6 I think is spot on for this film. It's not a movie I'd watch again or recommend. Peace.

Generic and predictable movie ruined by an atrocious ending...
paul_haakonsen23 October 2021
Well, this 2020 horror movie titled "Day 13" started out pretty interesting, although it had that whole thing of a sole-guy-spying-on-the-neighbors-and-finding-something-creepy-going-on-and-deciding-to-take-matters-into-their-own-hands thing going on. And that is just something that has been done and seen in many other movies akin to "Day 13", so writers Dan Gannon and Walter Goldwalter just didn't really manage to bring much of anything new or surprising to the movie that wasn't already seen in other movies.

Sure, about half of the movie was interesting enough, although somewhat generic, but then things started to change. I did like the sudden change to the movie, though was insanely predictable and you just had that whole thing figured out well before it actually happened. So again, the writers weren't really dishing out much of anything grand here.

Then there was the ending of the movie. Wow. Just wow! Talk about slapping the audience in the face with a cold, dead fish after having made them sit through about an hour and a half of predictable narrative with nothing much of anything scary or surprising. That ending that the writers opted to include and end the story off on was just ridiculous. It made me laugh so badly, especially because it felt like something a preteen would come up with for closing a class assignment on having to write a horror story.

I will say that the atmosphere in the movie was certainly good, as director Jax Medel managed to stage the storyline well enough, despite it being rather predictable and generic.

And I will also say that the acting performances in the movie were actually good enough. I wasn't familiar with Alex MacNicoll (playing Colton) or Genevieve Hannelius (playing Heather), but they put on good performances. Now, the movie also had Martin Kove (playing Magnus Torvald) on the cast list, but an actor of his magnitude was just not given the proper opportunity to unfold in "Day 13". A shame really.

If you enjoy a good horror movie, then your money, time and effort is actually better spent elsewhere, because "Day 13" was ultimately a generic addition to the horror genre.

My rating of "Day 13" would have landed on a four out of ten stars, but then that abysmal ending came rolling in and just ruined everything, and effectively lowering my rating of the movie to a more than generous three out of ten stars.

Great acting and cinematography...in support of a horrid script
argelius-107168 September 2021
This film had the makings of a solid low-budget horror flick. Solid acting and filming. But a lousy, scattered script. It's watchable...but just barely.

Don't Waste Your Time -or- Buy A Light Bulb!
rebeltaz-187056 February 2022
For starters, for the love of God will somebody please send hollywood some real light bulbs!? Every single movie made today is "lit" in the exact same way - with light bulbs that are dimmer than 4 watt night light bulbs! In one scene, the main character is reading and the only light in the room was a light on his desk. Even with that on, the entire room was almost pitch black. Other scenes were filmed om complete darkness where you just have to guess what's going on. Plus, apparently in 2022, people are still using candles as illumination! :eyeroll:

Outside of that, there are so many plot holes, the whole thing is like swiss cheese. The main character is using what looks like a night vision camera - judging by the characteristic green tint of the image - yet it uses a visible light source. Not only would that overpower the night vision optics, but it would defeat the whole purpose of using night vision in the first place - stealth!

The "mother" in this story should have her kids taken away from her. Apparently she leaves her teenage kids home alone for two weeks because she needs some time away with just her and her girl friends. She's never heard from again. Apparently, she can't even be bothered to call home and check on her kids.

And I want to know where this kid is getting his stuff ordered from. He must shop at the same place Wile E. Coyote uses because he was going online, buying surveillance equipment, and installing it that same day! I mean, even Amazon ain't that fast!

I won't give anything away, just in case you decide, for some reason to watch this train wreck, but just know that the last three minutes of the movie are about the most interesting in the whole thing!

Beware of your neighbors
Stanlee10716 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This film offers nothing new in its conception... The idea that the new neighbours across the street seem very suspicious. This reminds me of the classic films like Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Windows, the 'Burbs, disturbia... However, in this film Colton (Martin Love) is forced to look after her younger sister Rachael (Meyrick Murphy) after his mother Lisa (Darlene Vogel) goes away for much needed holiday. In this case the metaphorical wheelchair is his sister that prevents him from socialising & leaving the house.

The premise is decent enough but the execution of it leaves you a bit short to thoroughly enjoy it. I guessed the twist but nevertheless it is an ok pg 13 film.

I wouldn't bother
halfrekdemon16 January 2021
This film was recommended to me by a friend, and after reading the synopsis, I thought, yeah, okay, I'm really going to enjoy this.

But sadly, it wasn't to be. The acting was terrible, the camera work mediocre, and the direction subpar.

Do yourself a favor. Don't bother. It's really not worthy of your time.

All about the twist
baunacholi-861593 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Day13, in my POV a semi suspenseful movie which manages to build up some eerie moments (with the help of an atmospheric score) but they evaporate unfortunately half way through. Would have loved to get more background and story overall (the ingredients were all there). A bit of fright night vibe but not really. The finale, strictly spoken, the last 5 min hell breaks loose - literally. A surprising twist almost a complete genre switch from neighborhood crime to non Happy End of days. However it came (85 min) too late.

Ending would have made a better beginning
bigbadbassface6 August 2020
Movie was painfully slow and uneventful. The last 5 minutes was the only interesting part, and would have made a great premise. As it is this movie is one you'll most likely fast forward through, if you care to finish at all.

Family movie
afelix-002637 August 2020
I felt like I was watching a rated PG family movie; No cursing, no killings, no gore, no nudity, no creatures, no violence. The ending was okay, but the cheesy cgi ruined it. If they remade this movie with the above examples, it could be great horror movie.

The Two Heathers
nogodnomasters26 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
People move into the empty house next door. Colton (Alex MacNicoll ) is curious and sets up cameras. A man (Martin Kove ) who has adopted a young girl (Genevieve Hannelius ) appears to be getting ready to start a satanic ritual and sacrifice Heather. Cats are going missing. Colton sets up cameras. Shades of "Fright Night." Or more like window blinds.

Yes, something is going on in the house and we get a clue of the twist. The ending was when it got good. Wished they had extended it out and maybe cut out some filler. The actors didn't excite me. At this point, even Christian Slater would have been better.

Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.

Not bad, but falls apart.
dumplingfire6 September 2021
This movie is pretty good but is ruined by using CGI when they obviously didn't have the budget to do so. The other major flaw was that the filmmakers' attempts at foreshadowing were heavy handed and gave away what could have been a surprise ending.

ZERO!! Anything above that is a Fabrication !!!
djtmann282 August 2021
I had to do this review because what amazed me was that there were a few "9"s and even a "10" at the time of writing this review..the only conclusion I came to on the ratings over a "1" is that those ratings came from the actors parents / aunts and uncles / siblings etc..the acting was brutally bad and as a person who loves horror/ thriller movies like myself , the only " horror" I encountered was when I looked at my watch and realized I had at least 25 more minutes until this disaster was over..Avoid at your own peril!!!

Leaves you confused & wandering
victoria-714258 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Not the worst movie, but could be better. Makes sense new neighbor moves in. What about introducing the characters the older guy and younger guy. If that did happen, it would have a different outcome. It does not make sense towards the end. The movie is missing key points. It lacks a certain pull that puts the way we can comprehend things. Heather is just too good too be true. A bystander with interior motives. People that can fool other people are pure evil. The cgi was not that great either. Its like they just put the green screen there and called it a day. I was not impressed with this movie. It was on tubi.

No good deed ...
kosmasp16 April 2023
No pun intended - sometimes we mean well and do bad. Who am I referring too? Well you have to watch to find out. Though I am certain that most will know - quite early when watching this. It is a binary thing in a way. Of course there is more to it and the end offers something in a sense .. not sure if it is enough to make you like the movie though.

You have to have a heart for horror movies to say the least. It does look good when it comes down to the cinematography and all that. But this is to be expected with newer movies. The effects are not too great, but this is a low budget so that should be something you know. Know what this is and do not expect more. Even better suspend your disbelief to a degree that makes you enjoy watching this ... maybe you are a fan of Martin Kove for example ... hold on to that.

The last 5 mins are worth the whole film
rosanna-8333526 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My review contains the biggest spoiler of them all. So really don't read if you want the surprise because it will spoil it for you.

This is a pretty basic film that wouldn't have gotten more than a 4 if it hadn't have been for the ending. I won't rehash the basic plot as many have done that. I found it quite entertaining. Most went at a decent pace and there were surprisingly few plot holes. The basic plot twist is very predictable. The characters underdeveloped. I feel they could have dove more into Heather past and maybe found a way to tie the dad leaving with the original fire. It could have given it a bit more depth but hey. As I said basic. Where is film really made me smile was at the end. So many times I've found myself rooting for the demons when there are any or bad winches or the guy wanting to take over the world. I just wonder what would actually happen. And for once, the bad demon girl won. The sister gets taken by the shades and he'll is brought to earth. I mean how awesome is that? Yeah part of me would have liked to see more but then you can just imagine that he would have to in the end manage to get the sister back and put everything to right erasing everyone's memories in the same process. Seen that, don't need to see it again. So actually stopping there was just right and really made movie. And yes you have to wait until the last 5 mins but hell ;-) it's worth it.

Flawed, but the ending redeems it.
zeugitai4 November 2021
Horror movies generally are stews of cliches with lame endings. This film labors along to the end, but give credit for the ending. As a couple others have already mentioned, the ending makes up for the rest. Even the end is imperfect, but it shows there was life in the minds of the creators.

I actually liked the ending!
brownie148312 February 2022
The acting was pretty good. Martin kove the guy from karate kid was in it. The atmosphere was good and the suspense was there. It was a pretty solid flick. I don't know why everyone hates on the ending. Ending are always so predictable for everything nowadays. I was actually surprised by an ending. It was definitely worth the 2 dollars to rent on Amazon. Go check it out!
