A Lot of Subplots
Hitchcoc2 June 2018
As expository material, they have my interest. There are so many irons in the fire. First, we have the cold blooded killing of the pizza delivery boy, who is Muslim. We have the manager of the restaurant who is close mouthed. We have a female police detective who is the main protagonist. There is the press and a controversial view on immigrant status. This is important because the victim has relatives who are living in a storage garage. Add to that a politician with a lot of baggage and the guy who should have delivered the pizza that night. This is such a hodgepodge right now. I wonder if things can be resolved in four episodes.

Episode 1

Warning: Spoilers
I have never been a massive Carey Mulligan fan, but she did a good job in a very low key role here. We need some original character traits for her DI though because right now we have seen this a dozen times.

This show was pretty solid, but reiterating my points about Carey's character, it is nothing we haven't seen before. Hopefully there are some twists soon.

Intriguing

I enjoyed the fast pace of the first episode, it throws a lot of information out there but in enough small doses that you can keep it straight. Love the dark cinematography. Certainly captivating.

Good Start

Plot: I was struggling through the first minutes, but after that it becomes more and more intriguing. I just have the feeling that this seems more an American show, not really filmed in England. Also for some other hunch that I can't explain but for me there is a lot of American influence here.

Actors & Acting: everyone did a very great job. No one gave me a bad impression.

Soundtrack: very good.

Conclusions: maybe is a little early to talk about conclusions, but, aside of the American influence, I guess that this will be a not so bad show. We'll see 'till the end of the season.

Implausible plot

An excellent cast, putting in excellent performances, utterly let down by insanely contrived writing. The local MP just happens to have close connections to both the last person to have seen the murder victim and the partner of the only witness to the crime. Patronizing, lazy writing. I'm afraid I gave up at that point.
