Simplicity is Elegant - Simplex Munditiss
swaroopchaturvedi18 May 2018
Whatever is good for your soul do that - that's what the film incites in its most simple way ! One of the most complex emotion titled "love" is dealt with utmost sincerity and simplicity - that's where you see actors & not stars dishing out their power house performance. What embraces the film is it's narrative, soulful music songs and Cinematography.

A sincere effort by director Vyas
beevenkat10 September 2018
#AngreziMeinKehteHain is a clean, simple, sensitive love story. A man takes his wife for granted. He works n she manages his home. According to him, this is the perfect relationship n theres nothing beyond this. But the wife feels suffocated n longs for something more. Is she wrong in expecting some love, some appreciation from him? Theres another emotional story of a man whos about to lose his wife. The settings, dialogues r very real. Great performances by #SanjayMishra n #EkavaliKhanna. A sincere effort by director Vyas. Rating 3/5.

Could have done better

Warning: Spoilers
This is a good example for how a really good plot can be destroyed by bad script and direction. Even though I'm surprised about the higher rated reviews, I'm not agreeing with those.

I started having good hopes for this movie because i liked how it started and noticed the camera is doing a good job. Then it started to move in an unexpected direction. It wasn't a believable change but I still waited because I felt the ending is going to be good. But the second half ruined it for me. The tone of the movie was not consistent. Bad comical moments were really wasn't doing any good. Some good actors struggled to deliver the illogical dialog.

And a good plot which could have turned out to be a really good movie was turned a bad one.

a reflection of wisdom
qasimchauhan14 July 2018
This movies stands out with its simplicity, much like 'Ankhon Dekhi' in the characters and basic environment of simple middle class family and their issues.

Movie starts with a simple yet so profound observation, which is also theme of the movie, it says "Jab cheezain aankhon kay pass hon to aksar dhundli ho jati hain, fir jab door hoti hai to saaf dhikhne lagti hai, lekin agar bohut door ho jaye to v dikhna band hojata hai"

All the characters in the movie are made with full attention and every actor did justice to their role. I really loved the character/role of "Batti" (brijendra kala), who in movie gifts everyone the things which others compliment, in first 10 minutes you'll witness this and start loving this character. "jutay? Yeh aapko achcha lag rhe hain? Jugnu (his son) meri chappal lekar aa (removes his shoes)... Wo Kolhapuri...Yeh (shoes) aaj se aapke hue...Hamara asool hai, jo cheez kisi ko pasand aa jati hai hum usko gift kardete hain". This was so sweet.

The movie have two couples, one are the Yashwant Batra and Kiran Batra and second Feroz and Suman. Feroz and Suman are the couple with so much love, and batra's were exactly opposite.

The climax, how things settles and how story end was little unexpected, but I am glad how they ignite the love between each other (the batra's). The story of feroz and suman and their pure love will shock you too. All of this will make you cry while simultaneously characters like Batti will make you smile.

Why this movie is named 'Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain'? Well I think it refers to the three magical words "I love you" which are word of angrezi, which our character Yashwant Batra didn't able to communicate well or express well with her wife but realised it much later.

Worth watching it, you will love it.

Simplistic and well acted
jems_acharya14 July 2018
Once again Sanjay Mishra proves to be fit in any role..

The story flow goes well with the music and the simplistic acting of all the actors perfectly balances the movie.

This movie is not a type for those who love masala , item songs, dhum dhadaka and well known bollywood caste so I think negative review if seen would be from such watchers..

Overall awesome watch

In between overrated movies, this movie depicts the true life of many middle class people, giving everyone a great example that marriage is not only about responsibilities but also about love. Thanks for making such movies.

1. Idea of the story is good but Scripting and Direction is very poor.

2. Inconsistent storytelling.

3. Good Cinematography.

4. Great Actors like Sanjay Mishra and Pankaj Tripathi were not properly utilized at all.

Was very excited to see the Movie, but got disappointed after watching it.

In the era of fantasy and super heroes, here comes a film showing glimpses of reality of lower middle class. A must watch for people who are able to relate themselves from the people in the story. Sanjay Mishra is a method actor who can do almost any role. With a great supporting cast this film if definitely a must watch.

A one time watch, beautiful songs and cinematography
srutimisra24 July 2021
"Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain" is a hindi language romantic drama film starring Sanjay Mishra, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Pankaj Tripathi, Brijendra Kala, Ekavali Khanna, Anshuman Jha. This film was premiered at the South Asian International Film Festival in 2017. The movie has received many accolades. The story is about different views on love and arranged marriage of three couples who are from middle class families of Varanasi. Marriage is not about just sharing responsibilities, expressing love is also necessary.

The first half of the movie is very promising. But the second half is disappointing. It turns out a typical bollywood commercial film. The casting is huge and everyone tried to give their best. But they were not the right choices for the respective roles.

Cinematography is beautiful. Each frame is incredible. The songs are amazing. It's a slow paced movie. The storyline is common and direction is very poor.

According to me, "Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain" is a light hearted, average, one time watch movie.

One of the best film in 2018
sehbanalternative31 August 2018
Well this movie is sweet replica of our mundane life which becomes sometime sweet sometimes sour..But life is all about giving love, understanding each other's feeling , which is shown in the movie very subtly.. complexity in protagonist's daily life shown so delicately that we intend to emphasize for him.. This is one of the realistic and relevant film of our times.. Acting wise all actors are top class.. specially Sanjay Mishra..what an actor.. can't believe he can ever be better than Ankhon Dekhi..But he delivers like he owns it.. Another feather in the cap of our Indian cinema.. Please do watch it whatever digital platform you have..

Brilliant performances and story!
agadhvi-785843 February 2022
The story is something that I have seen a lot in person so it is story of many Indian couples born in the 20th century. In a 24 year old marriage , the man starts to feel the indispensable value of the woman he takes for granted only when she leaves him but can't get himself to let her know how much he really loves her.

The cast was fantastic though. Ekavali Khanna looked way too beautiful even though she was trying to fit in a certain character, and Sanjay Mishra did his best to look like the typical Indian male, but both deliver their characters as do the younger actors in their roles, but I felt Pankaj Tripathi was kind of wasted there - but his role was integral part of the story and could have played out a little more, the city of Varanasi could have been a great part of the story as well but instead it looked like any city in Uttar Pradesh.

A beautiful movie
saxenarohitk27 June 2020
This is a beautifully made simple and realistic love story movie. Sanjay Mishara known for his fine performance has delivered this role with ease. Pankaj Tripathi made his presence felt in a small but impactful performance. Ekavali Khanna has proven that she is able to perform any kind of role. The cinematographer has captured the charm of Varanasi nicely. It's very difficult to make a nice movie on a very simple and subtle story line but Harish Vyas did perfect justice to it.

This movies greatness is in its simplicity!!

Marriage isn't just about role play...
mrinal-kanti4 January 2021
Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain revolves around a middle-aged couple where they spent some 25 years of their marriage believing that it is all about responsibility and love is something that is taken for granted. The movie would resonate with a lot of people especially those who grew up in the 70s or early 80s when love marriages weren't that common in the Indian society.

Mr and Mrs Batra came from different backgrounds prior to their marriage and were too occupied in their responsibilities to introspect on the love for each other while struggling with the social gap between them. Dealing with the daily hardships of an average middle class service worker and homemaker, they sincerely delivered their responsibilities without complaining a lot. They had both accepted it as normal married life despite both of them getting humiliated often either within the family or in social gatherings. Sometimes they were either too afraid or too uncertain about confronting the insecurities of their married life. This aptly depicts the tapestry of a middle class family in the 80s (or may be even now in small towns).

It is only when their daughter challenges the acknowledgement of love in their parent's relationship and defies her father expectations by getting married to her lover secretly, that the family starts to realize the missing love and caring that should have been the foundation of their relationships rather than mere role play. Being confronted with the lack of love, when Mr Batra asks his wife to leave she handles it in a very mature way without creating a fuss. Till this point the film handles this delicate topic very maturely and sincerely, but after that the entire move stoops to a level of cheap drama about expressing love in myriad ways of saying "I love you" like they show in commercial cinema.

All that potential of creating a gem of cinema is lost in the second half when Mr Batra, who in his 50s, is advised to act like a teenager to express his love to his wife. All that solid foundation that was laid in the first half of the movie was lost in forced slapstick comedy of a 50 year-old trying to get back his wife and life together later in the second half. The other two stories of couples simply lacked in narration since the director focused mainly on the relationship between Mr and Mrs Batra.

I can only wonder how this movie would have turned in the hands of a niche and sensitive script-writer or director if they were not forced to address the commercial appeal by adding elements like cliched expression of love and slapstick comedy towards the second half of the movie. I have great respect for Sanjay Mishra as a skilled actor, who even as the main character, unfortunately got stereotyped towards the end of the movie like his other comedic roles which he played as supporting actor. He and Brijendra Kala can deliver a lot of intensity and depth to such roles without relying on forced comedy which has become common in mainline commercial cinema.

Need to Relate to this movie
agbausa18 September 2018
SHEA - One needs to be aware of the cultural aspects of Varanasi (Benares) and the age group (45+) in this movie. Keeping that in mind, this movie is such a realistic depiction of life and the complications of millenial generation coming into pla - it leaves me amazed. If the movie makers did not start off with this in mind, I will say they reached there without effort. In my humble opinion, this movie ranks in the league of Khosla ka Gosla, Rocket Singh - you know where I am going with the comparison. Kudos to the crew!

A movie for every middle aged - middle class family.
johnaemmanuel26 August 2018
This is a must watch! Far from the glitz, it brings out reality as it ought to be perceived, as it is. This movie is relatable and is a no frills family drama. Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain will go down as one of the best Hindi movies I've seen. Much appreciation for the writers, director and cast.
