Its not the best

Warning: Spoilers
First time in my movie review history here that I am going to present a full, balls to the wall spoiler breakdown for a film.

I saw in another review that someone was skeptical about the movie through like the first half, then was very satisfied with how it turned out by the end of it. I had the sheer opposite experience. It starts off good. You are introduced to this very pretty girl who has a phobia and basically an utter hatred for people with any type of imperfection with their body, be it a birthmark, a missing limb, or what have you. Ironically, she and her husband are the heads of a company that works to develope mental health apps.

One of their workers comes in one day and he seems to be lacking a pinky. Before she even gets a chance to look at him, a girl that was I believe an intern or secretary or something at the company comes in and notifies her that the man's pinky is missing. She about flips her lid and asks the girl to make him leave. She doesn't do this, and the gentleman just continues on his merry way with the work he was doing in his office on his computer. That night, her husband sits her down and has a talk with her about how they can't fire the man because he is a key asset to the company for the development of their apps.

The man claims that he managed to sever his own pinky whilst trying to engage in a carpentry project. The next day, he comes in missing another finger. He stands by his alibi and explains that he didn't learn the first time, so he ended up losing another finger during a second attempt (who the hell, right?). Anyway, at this point, the lady who is all in a fuss about physical imperfections ends up going to see a therapist or counselor or whatever he's supposed to be.

So cut to a little later. You find out this old dude is having these two goons track this man down and they cut off a finger whenever they find him. Toward the end of the movie you find out that it is becuase the old dude thought that this guy was a lawyer that messed his day up recently, but he had wrote the address down wrong so they had the wrong guy all along. Anyway, the lady's therapist dude just thinks its all in the guy's head and that he is cutting his own fingers off and suffering from a delusional fantasy that two men are cutting them off. Ultimately, the woman finds out he really is having his fingers cut off by these two guys, and she wants to stop them.

She kidnaps the one guy's dog and proceeds to call him and tell him that if he cuts off one more of the guy's fingers, she will cut the dog into pieces. You think she's bluffing, but she's not. He cuts more of the man's fingers off in spite and the next thing you know he's waking up in a daze tied to a chair with either the dog's severed arm or tail or something laying before him, leaving the rest of what she did to it to the imagation. Thats where I started to have a problem with it. Yeah, its a movie in this case, but still. If someone does something negative to you or someone you know, you don't take it out on their pet who played no role in it what so ever. You especially don't take it's life. Its not their fault...

From that point it just got more and more nonsensical and stupid. The protagonist lady and her therapist go to where the one guy who was cutting the dude's fingers off is at so she can show him he's real and was actually doing it. The guy shoots and kills the therapist, and then the woman's husband comes out and shoots the bad guy. They just shrug off the therapist being killed like its no bigs and kinda chuckle about it. Idk, it went from being a light hearted movie with a moderately serious tone to being like way out there and stupid. So, that about sums it up. I wasn't too impressed. It gets a 5 because the first like 3 quarters of it was good until it just kinda sank.

This is a movie that has some good performances and comedy but falls short of its potential

Fingers (2019) is a movie that I recently watched on Shudder. The storyline follows Amanda who is going through some things and works in a small office. When someone tells her a colleague is missing a finger she gets creeped out. A few days later she is informed that the same colleague has lost another finger and she gets really creeped out. She has a phobia of malformed people and decides to try an overcome it by investigating her colleague and gets caught up in a set of unfortunate circumstances.

This movie is directed by Juan Ortiz (Jennifer Help Us) and stars Michael St. Michaels (The Greasy Strangler), Jeremy Gardner (Christmas Bloody Christmas) and Taylor Zaudtke (After Midnight).

This is a very uneven pictures that could have been much better, especially with this caliber of cast. Michael St. Michaels is outstanding in this picture and every scene he's in is hilarious. He makes the movie a must see. There is a good infusion of comedy in here, the scene with the psychologist is funny and the play is wild. The execution of various circumstances are lacking which is too bad because there's often great buildup but the scene falls flat. There's a thumb scene that could have been better executed that was a bit disappointing but the ending by St. Michaels was perfect.

Overall, this is a movie that has some good performances and comedy but falls short of its potential. I would score this a 4.5-5/10 but recommend seeing it once.

Great weird movie
KingPretz25 April 2022
Just watched this and I thought it was a blast. It was absurdist and funny, and entertaining from beginning to end. I thought the ending was great, with satisfying conclusions to each character's arc. Nobody could ever call this predictable!

Looking at the reviews here, I see it is not for everyone, but then I see a lot of people giving great reviews to movies that i think are garbage. If you want to watch a bizarre movie that is very well shot and well acted, with several laughs along the way, Fingers is definitely worth checking out.

What was the point of this?!
jmbovan-47-16017315 January 2021
This movie comes across as a low cost independent production. The story has limited coherence or plot. The resolutions are senseless. Acting is mediocre. But ultimately the plot is so pointless that nothing about it matters. Boring dumb and mindless.

One star for what I did watch, which was bad, and worst off boring as heck which is the worst thing a movie can be. I added one star as a benefit of the doubt as I fast forwarded through 90%.

Moments of perfection
MrTorrance20 October 2020
Juan Ortiz is an undiscovered talent. This is the second of his films Ive seen and I can't get over the quality of character and mood he brings to the table. Fingers is a film that will get at you days after viewing. I loved the weird opening and found a few moments to be quite perfect. The score is well done and helps push the tone of the film. Overall I felt the film didnt quite know it wanted to be, horror, suspense, crime, what. But, who cares as long as it entertains. Give it a chance.

I can't wait to see what Mr. Ortiz brings to us next.

This was definitely, one of my top 5 movies that I wish I wouldn't have wasted my time on . I fast forwarded just to see how it turned out, thinking maybe it twisted at the end , which would maybe make the movie , Nope , Trash to the end . What a waste of time. This is only my viewpoint, some people might like this type of garbage . That's all .

Not great
gab-6759917 March 2022
As a fan of Mr. Gardner's work I was excited to see he was in this movie as the dancing clown. But the more I watched the worse this movie got. So before you judge him on just this movie you need to see After Midnight. It was also slow like this one but at least it was GOOD! I hear The Battery (Another movie he is in) is good but I have not seen it yet so I cannot honestly recommend.

Wow this one caught me off guard
Corkscrew84productions10 January 2021
I waste to sure about this one when it started but as the story progressed I got more and more fascinated by it and by the end throughly enjoyed it. It did slow down a bit in the middle but picked up in the 3rd act. That 3rd act does not disappoint especially the last 15 mins. I loved the subplot with doctor and the masked men caused for some really great dark humor especially from the main masked guy. All in all had a great time with this one check it out if you have shudder solid 8/10

Insane and sometimes hilarious
eddiechilton12 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this movie wasn't well reviewed and wanted to say that I loved it.

It's a weird movie, each character has their own motivations which sometimes are insane and illogical, but that's how the world is. I think one of the themes of the movie is a sort of embrace of the chaotic, almost bordering on nihilism: we are born into a crazy world ungoverned by universal truths, meanings, karma, order, and morals. People saying the plot is pointless are missing the fact that that's the point - The inciting incident of a man getting his fingers removed was all started because someone wrote the address wrong. There's no justice now that he's lost 9 fingers. There's no hell for his tormentors to endure, "eye for an eye" might feel good in his situation but it will not reverse the trauma he's been through. It was a mistake, he is maimed, and there's no moral lesson to learn there.

I thought the acting was great (not sure why other people didn't think so - the dialogue is surreal so it's not always going to sound like overhearing a conversation on the street), the plot is insane and twisty, and the dialogue was interesting.

Not for everyone
birdcatcher-0357823 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
If you like wierd crazy fictional characters that you can still attract too, you'll like this movie. Good bad guys and bad good guys and delusional people. I really enjoy this movie and ones similar to it. Dark comedy, not really horror but some gore, some mental trauma, stuff that makes you think a little. Amanda the heroine, takes you on a roller coaster from don't like her, to sympathetic, to cheering and back to to not caring for her before completely changing your mind in the final ten minutes of the movie. I gave it eight stars for the characters twists and general craziness involved in the film.
