Now THIS is how you do Constantine right (Full Movie Edition)
Paradox-Warrior29 April 2018
I knew that DC had plans to take this series of shorts and combine it into a cohesive story with a bit more added on after episode 6. As it stood, I thought the shorts were good by themselves and adding another 20 or 30 minutes to the end to wrap things up and make a pretty good solo Constantine animated series/film.

What I didn't expect was for DC to add a full HOUR in material as a follow-up to the shorts, and boy was the wait for this worth it.

I've always liked Constantine as a character and thought Matt Ryan was an excellent choice to embody the character. The one thing that always bothered me is up to this point we haven't gotten a truly good Constantine story. The short-lived live-show was good but it was hindered creatively by the fact that it was on network TV so they couldn't truly go dark with it. The animated film Justice League Dark did better, but because it was a team movie obviously each character needed their own time in the spotlight.

City of Demons is exactly the kind of story needed for John Constantine. It's dark and bloody as hell and doesn't pull a lot of punches with the visuals and story. It's also pretty damn heartbreaking too, but I'm not going to spoil that part because it really does need to be experienced fresh without any idea it's even coming. I really, REALLY hope DC does more of Constantine like this because damn did I need it after the Batman & Harley Quinn and Batman Ninja debacle.

I can't tell you how happy I am they took these six shorts and exploded it into a really good hour and a half film. Other than one specific point where they added on some footage to one of the original shorts that ended up transitioning pretty badly, if you're a DC fan and especially if you're a Constantine/Hellblazer fan, I'd say you're going to enjoy this.

Awesome but way too short
bmckeigh2 April 2018
This was great but a little disappointing. Each "episode" is barely six minutes long and it ends without any kind of resolution or a cliffhanger. It just stops, abruptly right as the plot is starting to unfold. As a huge Constantine fan I feel it was a little half assed. Maybe they will make more and pick this back up.

As for the animation and voice acting and judging the mere content, it's great. Still worth a watch even though it can be done in one sitting.

(movie) This is pure horror, not a superhero film
Crystal_Dive10 October 2018
This does proper service to Constantine, as how his world should be portrayed. Complete opposite of what had been the neutered vision presented in the live-action tv series ( and probably will continue to be in whichever major network pickup in the future) .

No forced heavy accents, no unnecessary love interests, and plenty of gore and blood. Would had been R rated if it was live-action, and an R that is much much stronger than that of Deadpool.

Loved it! I do wish the series had of had more interest from the public. Cause I liked it. Constantine is a great character. Be good if he and the team got more air time and better time slots!

Im beggin DC animation. please keep producing stuff like this in full length tv/movies
MoistMovies29 March 2018
This was some of if not THE best work ive seen in a literal decade from DC animation. Its made for the growing audience which is has to start recognising. many of us are in our 20's even 30's now and we still love watching the old justice league and batman series and all the films. But to grow with your audience is so important to keep the brand really alive. Produce adult content in animation next to content made for kids. You can do both and this little series proves it 100%

Great Quality but way to short.
xer4sa25 March 2018
This series is about Constantine, a sorcerer in the DC universe. In this series the main protag accepts a job that results in him delving into the world which our hero Constantine lives in within the world of the DC universe.

This series is different from your typical DC series. there is no "costumed heroes" or "big baddie" but instead demons, angels, and lots of other supernatural stuff. There is also a twist on it, being that you wont find your typical "boo's" and such. Instead you'll see fleshed out characters and an interesting story arc that branches out as each episode unfolds.

Humans are not the focus in this series, instead the focus of the series is on the supernatural aspects of it, like the magic and mythical creatures and such. It's a good series and it's clearly a risk for DC to branch out to such a series that is completely out of the normal formula for them. But it's a risk that was worth taking for them as the quality is superb and the world it's building within the already established universe explains alot more than what the other series did for the supernatural aspect of the DC universe.

If you're a fan of magic and supernatural stuff but still love that DC style, this series is for you. But even if it's not, I'd still suggest watching it. It's pretty good. The biggest fault of this series though is that it's way to short and the episodes end on cliff hangers all the time. It would of been better if they just made this into a movie or even hour long episodes instead of 10 minute long ones.

One line with a few more

Warner brothers never cease to amaze me. They treat these films as if they are a necessity rather than a pleasure and they don't realise that they have gold in their hands. If they were just willing to make the films a but longer, maybe two hours, who knows what they could make.

I so want a live action version of this movie now!
mervynedward13 April 2019
Or at least an honest iteration of the source material that this animated movie lives up to. It accurately portrays John's non-chalance and his struggle with his inner self. Come on DC we know you can do it.

It's always a trap

Warning: Spoilers
John Constantine must travel to L.A. in order to rescue the soul of Chas's daughter in London in a coma. The demon who holds the soul wants John to eliminate other rival demons using his Aztec death god app.

An animated tale with stiff characters. Had a hard time getting into it. Needed a heavy metal soundtrack or something. The dialogue lacked cleverness.

Guide: F-word. No toon sex or nudity.

Nice and Gritty,
Baldyed6516 April 2018
Love Constantine in all it's forms, but please animators pay a visit to London/The UK. Pubs ain't like that and smoking was banned years ago inside.

Need an R-Rated live version soon.

Constantine City of Demons: Average stuff, but likely great for fans
Platypuschow7 December 2018
I'm not a Constatine fan truth be told, the big Hollywood blockbuster movie with Keanu Reeves didn't impress me, the television show though on my watchlist doesn't fill me with excitement and all the animations featuring the character such as Justice League Dark (2017) I thought were pretty poor.

So what chance did City of Demons really stand? Not much, but to its credit it made the most of what it has and delivers a passable attempt at a story.

When his friends daughter falls into a mysterious coma it's up to John Constatine to investigate and cue the supernatural, demons and lashings of macabre.

The animation is solid, the voice cast is passable and the plot feels recycled. I know I've seen this before and recently but can't put my finger on quite where. Dark, moody and suitably R-rated it's certainly the best Constatine outing I've seen and have a feeling this may really please fans.

For me however this was an average animated tale with few shocks, surprises or memorable moments.

The Good:

Some memorable macabre

The Bad:

Stock scream

Distinctly average stuff

Things I Learnt From This Movie:

We need animated horror movies

Bendedict Cucumber is magic

Mr Blobby is a demon, this explains SO much

Hearing Newcastle used in a fantasy movie like this is just weird

There are awkward sex scenes, and then there is that!

Darkest animated movie. Fits Constantine
deveshr12128 March 2019
This is one of the darkest stories I have ever watched. I have read all the comics of Constantine. I must say this movie justifies the character. A few surprises with dark humor. The twists in the story make it so much better. It is a well written, well portrayed and a definite watch for all DC fans.

Warning: Spoilers
Initially the climax didn't made any sense, but in the end it kinda did. Other than that, the whole movie is quiet good and gripping. Although not sure of second watching.

Just skip this. Hell is probably better.
secondtechnicianrimmer9 October 2018
This is just a loose mish-mash of two distinct stories in the Hellblazer universe and they managed to even mess that up. The tactics John uses here make no sense, and are just a deus ex machina the writers pulled out their ass because they didn't have enough imagination to come up with something that works. Of course they could have just used the original plot... which worked way better. Read the comics. Way. Way. Better. The only right thing in this sorry excuse of a story is the voicing.

Awesome!
gabrielbahiabr18 October 2018
This one of the best things DC ever did. I know it's not for everyone, because it is really a horror movie, not a superhero. But anyone how knows Constantine already saw that coming. And I'm glad for it! It's very diabolic, full of blood and torture - perfect. They got the character. Besides the point that it is how Constantine is supposed to be, the art, the photography and the plot are great. And end... wow, it's very Constantine! It's a shame that DC does not continue with the same quality in live action.

Good,but short
hmahindrakar8 August 2018
As always new WB animations are good, some are good but not have story. But constantine is best, both story and animation. Lots of blood, dark, superb. But its too short,it should have atleast 20 min show.

Doesn't qualify as a show
mmoneta27 March 2018
The intro and outro are longer than the content. About ten sentences of dialog, and the program's over. Better to wait for the edited together re-release, which will probably run for 30 minutes. Watching it the way it is, is a waste of time.

For supernatural and horror cravings (movie)
Valhala9023 October 2018
I loved the movie, and portrayal of Constantine. I think it did him justice, story being pretty dark and heartbreaking with a nod to all things comes with a price and sacrifice. You can feel the despair and most realistically done human nature with a plenty of gore and blood. I'm looking forward for more Constantine movies.

Excellent. Animated films are always superior
calin_deea_939 July 2019
I grew up with DC series like Batman, Superman, Justice League, Batman Beyond, and now I indulge myself in these animated movies, especially when live action is frequently subpar. I didn't expect to like this one so much, but, God, it was good! Yes, a little to graphical for my taste, but you should expect that in something regarding demons, possessions and exorcisms. The story and the characters were spot on, the ending was surprising. Watch it (but not at night)!

Constantine is always great
aadityaprakash0714312 February 2019
This movie gripped me whole time. Best part is twist in last minutes. It was great, now just plain action. At last Matt Reeves is always best suited in John's character. I wish WB will continue to re-live this horror-thriller genere in future also. Love from an Indian.

They haunt the weak
mandoj5429 October 2018
John Constantine. His demons attack him like miniature goblins seeking harm. He alone crushes them into exploding little droplets of blood. All except one. One that'll multiply to many, but in the meantime just one. It is alone as he is. Follow along little fellow keep him company. Slaying demons who devour souls for fun is a burden full life. Lonely.

Insanely Insulting
rckhound16 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
So someone had to have thought "Hey we have a highly anticipated animated series coming out, lets compete with Castlevania and make our episodes even shorter than they did." Even fan made videos on YouTube are longer than this joke of a series. What's worse, in case the idioticaly short series wasn't bad enough. 2 whole episodes are wasted explaining the backstory with Astra as if it was a mystery. If your gonna make really short episode, don't waste time on a side plot, that's just idiotic. I wasn't surprised someone decided to do that, though, considering Bruce Wayne's parents death is shown in every Batman movie. At least the show is free to watch on the CW Seed. Having Matt Ryan in Legends of Tomorrow was the best thing that happen with Costantine.
