It is a trap.
niunoniotro10 June 2022
That's what this film is, nothing more, nothing less. The final twist (I won't reveal it) has nothing to do with what has been narrated for more than 75 minutes and on top of that it is left without explanation, because some people believe that open endings are the best, I'm one of those people, but as long as there is a motivation that is not found here.

The development of the characters can be improved, the house, which has its point, is totally wasted and the flashbacks bring nothing but confusion.

Katia Winter's performance is far above the film.

A product that our mind will discard for self-defence.

Can't Decide What It Wants To Be!
vengeance2027 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So this is another film I picked up hoping it would be good... or so I thought!

The film follows a mum who goes to pick up her child after nearly dying via suicide by wrist slashing in the bath while pregnant with her daughter. After spending some time in an institution she's allowed top have her back but when they arrive at their family home, supernatural goings on start to occur.

I found the film to be pretty boring & slow for the most part. Little to nothing actually happens, but it's towards the end of the 85 minute film that it suddenly goes off in a random direction & completely contradicts the previous events that took place leading you to believe something else.

Was it the her husbands ghost haunting the house or something else? Who was the man in the attic & why isn't there anything from the start suggesting who he was? It seemed so random!

In the end, nothing is explained, & you're left with even more questions than answers due to the sharp change in direction at the end alone. While some visuals were creepy & there was some suspenseful moments here & there the film overall fell flat.

Overall, it was a film that simply couldn't decide what it wanted to be, supernatural or slasher. 3/10.

NOT a ghost story
SaridoRagnarson27 August 2020
Don't waste your time, this is at the most a thriller, with some jump scares. If you absolutely love a movie that ends in a huge cliff hanger with a lot of questions to be answered and frankly makes no sense on how it ended go ahead and waste your time.

Really quite terrible.
NotASpookyGhost30 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Other reviews have summed it up. The plot makes no sense. It pretends there is a supernatural element but in the end it isn't. Or is it? Was most of it in the mom's head? Why was the cop saying it was a drifter living in her walls when in the same scene, they show the creepy dead friend being unmasked? What happened to the very concerned grandmother from the beginning? Why does the mom's boss not fire her? She just walks out of the restaurant while they yell after her several times. If it wasn't supernatural, then how did her friend just disappear without a trace from the closet? What happened to the huge bag of groceries she brought over? Why didn't the kid tell her mom that her friend came over and the closet ate her? Why did I keep watching?

The worst part was the child actor's scream. It sounded like whistle and she screamed so many times. What a terrible day to have ears.

Slow burn garbage with predictable ending
fakeaccount-0142323 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This movie wants you to think it's a supernatural thriller but it's so obvious what's actually happening to the point where the villain would have to be a cartoon character to do pull off what he's doing the way he's doing it. Also, the main character is SOOO stupid, making all the wrong decisions. She never calls the police, she instead calls: a friend, a priest, and an overstepping, creepy guy who made her extremely uncomfortable earlier in the movie. Avoid.

Utterly blank and disappointing
IzzyMaeDoorite27 August 2020
You're Not Alone simply has no idea what it wants to be. It's a senseless mix of a family drama, supernatural thriller and even a bit of a slasher. Ultimately none of it ever achieves the climax. Occasionally good actress Katia Winter is painful to watch as a main protagonist even compared to her screen daughter portrayed by Leya Catlett. The script is plain awful in every single - did Andrew Wong ever realized he wrote a character with the single line 'Mrs. Nibbles!' that is repeated like 15 time? And the sound editing is perhaps one of the worst ones ever. Extremely cheap and bland nonsense.

Nope.
Patient4445 September 2020
This movie not only had potential, but manages to trick you and trick you and get you closer to the edge of your seat for the biggest of surprises lately seen: NOTHING HAPPENS!

Yet, the execution in the first 2 acts manages to grow on you and gets you into thinking there is a lot more to see here, but you'll have to be patient. Problem is, the last act went straight downhill, with an under mediocre execution, idea, development, disrespectful and annoyingly way to end a movie. It should not have happened but sadly this is all we get.

All in all, the 3rd act has been seen many times before, recently even, but I won't name those movies out because it would completely waste the little effort put into You're Not Alone, so if you do decide to watch it, do so but expect to get frustrated and that alone.

Cheers!

Wow! Really Bad Acting
arfdawg-125 August 2020
Idiotic predictable plot directed by an untalented hack.

The acting is non-existent.

The script is quite simply moronic.

Nothing scary in the slightest except thinking about how you're wasting precious time watching this garbage.

All the way thru it done just enough to keep me interested. Decent little plot twist in the final act... but still fell a little short. Not terrible by any means.

So Many Things Wrong
Tee_Espolon13 December 2020
Without any spoilers, there are so many things in this movie that never add up. Like the lack of storyline and purpose for instance. This ends up feeling like a higher budget Lifetime movie. People go missing without any question to their disappearance. I'm still not sure what this movie is about. There are a million warnings yet the need to leave the house isn't present. I could go on but it's not worth it. This was a complete waste of time.

Take 1 scene out of every horror movie you've ever seen and you end up with this movie.
enriqueayalajr27 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It has all the scenes and elements from almost every horror movie you've seen from the cat being locked in the addict, dead animals on the porch, a game of hide and seek that goes wrong, a widowed mom, am awkward and bullied child, oh and how can I forget the rude neighbor who's looking for that very cat that was locked in the attic of her neighbors home. I've seen it all before and the exact same way.... nothing new

there aint many flaws
ops-5253522 August 2020
And its a pretty little teaser of domestic horror that takes place in this cul de sac neighbourhood i guess somewhere in the western states. storywise there is fatigue of prehistory, why did she loose her child, even though flashbacks of memory is used its not enough. it has an unusual ending,, loads of motion sound and panick, but the faith of the young child seems to be forgotten.

production are dexcent enough,at low budget, the acting fine by the two mains, and the score alittle over average for nthese types of horrorflicks. the plot tempo may be slow but there aint many opportunyties to rest..

its a little frightnight for a pyjama girlie gettogether horror film party. the grumpy old man will recommend even though it follows all the rules of the genre

But it had all been done and seen before...
paul_haakonsen13 September 2020
After watching this 2020 movie "You're Not Alone", I kind of wish that I were alone. This movie was not great, let's not beat around the bush.

I sat down to watch "You're Not Alone" from writer Andrew Wong and director Eduardo Rodriguez because the movie was labeled as a horror movie, and also because the cover/poster for the movie was actually interesting.

Well, turns out that this was more of a thriller than it was a horror movie, so I was somewhat disillusioned with the movie and I felt bereft of a horror experience. I can see that IMDb also has the movie labeled as a thriller and a mystery.

The storyline told in "You're Not Alone" was just rubbish in my opinion. Writer Andrew Wong brought nothing new to the cinema with this 2020 movie. In fact, everything that transpired in this movie had been seen before in other similar movies, so it made for a very stale movie experience, especially since the other - and older - movies fared better than this 2020 movie did.

The acting in the movie was adequate. Well, it was not great, but nor were it all that bad. But taking into consideration the limitation imposed by the lack of a proper script and storyline, then I think the actors and actresses were doing adequately enough. The characters, however, well don't get your hopes up here, because they were bland, uninteresting and just too generic.

In fact, as the movie ended, I was left with an overwhelming sensation of 'was that really it?'. So, I can't really claim to be impressed nor overly entertained by "You're Not Alone".

My rating of this 2020 thriller lands on a mere three out of ten stars. If you enjoy thrillers, give "You're Not Alone" a wide berth, because there are far, far better thrillers readily available out there.

It's not a horror movie, but a pretty horrible watch nevertheless.
Good_Citizen12 January 2022
A failed Boogeyman clone. That's what this movie WISHES it was.

I saw its low IMDB score before watching, but remained neutral, and thought I'd give it a try. I was not expecting a masterpiece, but was STILL disappointed.

For 3/4 of the time nothing happens, while the general tone and acting makes you feel depressed and bored, not scared.

(TRIGGER WARNING for people struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts!)

You don't care about any characters, they are lifeless to begin with. Probably poor acting or directing.

When the action finally kicks in (after 70 boring minutes!) it's random and makes no sense.

Finally the movie closes on a poor attempt at a plot twist (which was random and made no sense, again).

Not worth your time.

roger_202022 August 2020
I personally liked it very much. If you're a horror movie lover you will certainly like this. There's not even a single second that you feel bored. From the beginning to the end you'll stay thrilled!! And the twist in the climax is awesome. I was like "omg didn't see that coming" i could not stop crying. The bathroom alone is so scary! And beware of the You're Not Alone.it'll give you unexpected jumpscares..

Nothing new at all but works as a simple thriller

If you looking for a good horror you will be dissapointed. It also leaves a lot of questions behind that dosent makes sence. As an easy going thriller its still okay I think.

eh, okay. But kept waiting too long...
ravenhair70230 August 2020
Okay, decent acting. I loved the scenery and the plot, but it took too long to finish. It kept me interested, but at the same time, I was like get on with it already! Kinda seen the end coming, though. The overall story was good, but for the time it took to it all to come to a close, eh. I was exhausted. I enjoyed the film, but it's a one time watch. Trust me. It's good enough to get 5 out of 10 for me, but I can't go any higher. Peace

Not the worst
nour-3447618 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Okay so the movie ended on a cliff hanger like I'm not sure if I understood this right but doesn't it mean that the person who died at the end was mark not the actual person living in the wall? I feel like the movie needed more context and the acting wasn't the best but it wasn't that bad either

I am here with you
kosmasp28 April 2023
No pun intended - and no connection to Michael Jackson or that song. Well apart from the title of the movie reminding me of exactly that and therefor me using it to make a silly joke. Hopefully not insulting anyone .. well too much.

So if you are into horror movies (and are not only watching them during Shocktober/October), you may find something you like in this movie right here. It does look decent - which I reckon is something that you can attest most movies nowadays. Even with a low budget. The acting is ok, though nothing to get too excited about. The story is a bit see-through/predictable ... but if you don't mind that ... well I have seen worse movies ... it depends on how much free time you have and want to spend on watching movies/genres you like/love.

Laughably Bad and Inconsistent
jrd109324 July 2023
If you can't tell from the other reviews, this movie suffers from myriad deficiencies. It doesn't know whether it's a haunting, a domestic abuse tale, or a psychological thriller. Of all the film's problems, what amused me the most - and what finally made me pull out my phone to write this review - was the scene near the end of the movie when a Catholic priest forcibly baptizes the daughter in a tub, as if it were a Southern Baptist church. Did no one in the production team have any kind of background in religion? And if not, why in the world would they choose to use it in their film? This is one of several laughable moments, and it's clear that the filmmakers had no idea how to tell this story. Don't waste your time.
