I'd love to know more about this film....who was it made for and was it ever in theaters?

"Nelly Was a Lady" is a god-awful biopic about the life of the composer (now a de-composer) Stephen Foster. Wikipedia says that three movies were made about him...but its list of three didn't include this one, so there are at least four. Now I don't blame Wikipedia...the one I found is rare and I am not 100% it was intended to be shown in theaters, as it's amazingly shoddy. I would if PERHAPS it was made to be shown in schools...in which case I really feel sorry for those kids back in the day! Perhaps everything was NOT better in the good 'ol days!

This story focuses less on the life of Foster and more on the songs...and the picture abounds with them. There are just a few problems....it's dry as dust, features a god-awful (though faithful to the period) minstrel show, is cheaply made and is very cheaply acted. It sounds more like a local community theater production...and a bad one at that.

So what if there are four and not three films about Foster when the missing one is this one...perhaps it should just stay missing!!
