Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Although the film leans heavily on both the surreal and absurd, thus making the concept a bit more easier to cover, some of the scenes may be disturbing to sensitive viewers. The violence, the majority of which is off-screen, can still be disturbing to some. Psychologically, the film can be scary, challenging and somewhat depressing, gloomy and melancholical in its overarching themes.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • The main character, Samurai Rauni, has only a loincloth covering him in a multitude of scenes, exposing the majority of his buttocks and/or upper torso completely, and portraying him as being nearly nude. In the sauna scene, the women are also dressed very lightly, with their upper halves only covered by the small bras they are wearing. There are implications to a rape taking place, as well as a portrayal of a sex scene under a table, that does not portray nudity, but rather, absurdity.

Violence & Gore

  • Although most of the actual violence is often happening somewhat off-screen, it can be quite disturbing to some sensitive viewers. There are instances of decapitation, one with a severed head of a ninja assassin flying through the air in slow-motion. There is a scene of a mass-murder, in which an entire celebration's partakers are killed off, with the aftermath shown as dead bodies and the weeping wounded; the host subsequently has a liquor bottle forcibly shoved and smashed into his mouth (off-screen, but with an extremely bloody aftermath). Woman being first slapped, then hit hard with an elbow by a thoroughly bloodied samurai. Women, men and Santa Claus being punched, smashed and dragged around, a man being drowned alive, a male-female couple being murdered during a home invasion, scenes of suicidal self-mutilation (i.e. a Japanese "seppuku" commenced with a hand drill) and subsequent sawing off of the head. Also, an apparent suicide. A scene with two young boys fighting each other with fists until both of their noses bleed.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Women ritualistically use a funnel to pour hard liquor down the samurai's throat in a sauna. The samurai is seen smoking cigarettes in multiple scenes. Heavy alcohol consumption by the majority of the characters in a multitude of scenes. The samurai binge-drinks so excessively that he has to be dragged home from a shoreline that is covered in empty alcohol beverage bottles and cans. There is also a portrayal of a case of delirium tremens that has been caused by excessive alcohol abuse.
