If you're not 100% twisted 100% of the time, this might be for you
RudeArtAndDesign_Com14 April 2017
OK first I want to try keep this short as possible because you've already seen other reviews and the description I'm sure. So, in a nutshell is it any good? Yes, if you take it on its own. I've seen the comparisons to Twilight Zone, Outer Limits and Black Mirror and like those this is also another sci-fi/ horror anthology show. But can we just hold there for a second.

I read one review saying something along the lines of this is a terrible copy of Black Mirror, I don't agree. I really enjoy the former and I do agree, it's a better show. However, it is also much darker. An episode of Black Mirror can leave you feeling as if you just watched someone eat a puppy. Whereas Dimension 404 is a bit lighter in mood and subject and surely does not take itself as seriously. Same goes for the "Zone" and "Limits" we should probably compare 404 to one of the more comedic episodes of the Zone or better yet, the 80s anthology by Steven Spielberg "Amazing Stories". In broad strokes if you enjoyed Stories, I think you'll enjoy this. If you're looking for something a bit shocking and more thought provoking you can't go wrong with Mirror or some of those fantastic old Zones. Bottom line 404 uses differing methods to tell similar tales and after four episodes it's not my preferred method but, it sure is a very fun change of pace. If you're not 100% twisted 100% of the time you might enjoy it too.

Overall a great show.
devin_bh7 April 2017
What a lot of people don't seem to realise is that this show is made by a Youtube channel which usually makes weird/funny short videos, and originally started out making vfx/action videos with their friends with little to no budget. Since then they have grown to make their first series, Video Game High School, and now Dimension 404. While of course it's not near the high quality of big budget shows like The Twilight Zone and Black Mirror, given the circumstances, what they've done is still quite impressive. The stories are original and have some big twists. The acting between the professionals and amateurs in the show is somewhat noticeable, but not enough to be a bother. My favourite types of shows are those like The Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, and Black Mirror, and Dimension 404 fits in well with those, but mostly as a homage rather than the next big edition to the genre. Overall it's well done and entertaining, so if you're like me and really like these types of shows, then it's definitely worth taking a look, but while keeping in mind who created it.

Don't compare it, don't dismiss it.
felixxxthemau19 April 2017
This isn't some kind of reboot or remake of Outer Limits, Black Mirror, or the Twilight zone or whatever else..this is something entirely different. It takes elements from these sci-fi shows and weaves it into something entirely different. It feels similar, but it can't hold a candle to those shows individually..and it's not trying to.

It has a large cast of actors and actresses, and weird ass episodes..but it's fantastic. If you like sci-fi shows and want a new story every episode, this might be the show for you. It's almost like a B-Movie or a B-TV show if you think the acting is terrible (I think it's pretty good..but if you're a stickler (insert Rick and Morty reference)..that's on you) It's probably not for you.

With this latest episode (Bob) I cried like a baby. The story they tell every episode is fantastical and I've been waiting for a show like this for a long time since Misfits ended. To be fair to the user critics, episode 3:Chronos wasn't OMFG over the top amazing..but it had emotion to it and it resonates.

Don't let negative reviews detract you from this show, try it out..see how it fits. This is only the first season, think about shows you love and how crappy their first season was. (South Park? Anyone?)

Give this show a fighting chance.

Not bad at all
amirrunoron24 April 2017
I watched the first episode. its not bad. premise is good, and acting is OK. i don't enjoy much television, because it mostly is garbage, but this was worth the watch. Well done, the guy from community, for not completely stiff acting, which you are known for.(mchale something?) give it a try.

Deliciously Witty, and Satire of Modern (and Furture) America at It's Finest

Warning: Spoilers
Although likened with nightmare inducing British sci-fi/horror anthology series "Black Mirror", this show is a separate entity. Although containing many of the same elements, it compensates any of the horror and the Prime Minister Pig F**kery that made Black Mirror somewhat unsettling. Also, a major difference is that in "Dimension 404", each ending let's you walk away with the feeling that the episode's conflict is resolved. The differences can really be chalked up to the names. Dimension 404 is a play on the internet error message "404 Page Not Found." Black Mirror is a clue to the fact it will make you reflect on the darkest depths inside all of us, and how we reflect that on the world around us.

The best Twilight Zone's Child
antoniokuntz-3265723 April 2017
Dimension 404 drinks better from the source (Twilight Zone) compared to other attempts like Black Mirror and others. Who compares with BM and other series has no idea what TZ was. In fact BM and similar are poor copies of the style and depth allowed in TW episodes. The Twilight Zone was an American television anthology series created by Rod Serling. The episodes are in various genres, including psychological horror, fantasy, science fiction, suspense, and psychological thriller; and often conclude with a macabre or unexpected twist, and usually with a moral. A popular and critical success, it introduced many Americans to common science fiction and fantasy tropes. The original series, shot entirely in black and white, ran for five seasons from 1959 to 1964.

A campy but watchable sci-fi series.
firalw12 April 2017
I haven't watched the entire series yet, but I feel as though they were aiming for a campy and not too serious sci-fi series. It is remarkably similar to Black Mirror in the layout of the episodes and the theme of the show. In the episodes I watched at the time of this review, I got the feeling that it was a bit tongue in cheek. This sci-fi is definitely not the kind to give you genuine creeps.

I don't think I would recommend this show to everyone. Because the episodes are all separate from each other, just pick whichever one looks the most interesting and if you want to see more? Go ahead.

404 Error: Entertainment Not Found
diablopete1312 April 2017
I was excited to hear that Hulu was creating a show that was being compared to the Twilight Zone and Black Mirror. Hulu's original programming has been hit or miss but I had hope! Then I heard Mark Hammill was narrating: Bonus Points! But in the same moment I saw that it was being created by Rocketjump. Points lost. I haven't enjoyed anything they produced.

Still, I was determined to give it a shot.

From the first scene I could tell it was not what it had been compared to. The lighting immediately gave it the feel of a sit-com of sorts, the soundtrack seems outright silly for the genre they were attempting to be a part of.

The acting left much to be desired, the writing seemed even worse. It's as if they had ideas for 10-15 minute shows and stretched it out into 45. No, I was not impressed but I felt like it would be unfair to judge it without watching the first 3 episodes.

Cut to 2 1/2 hours later and you have a disappointed person wishing for that part of their life back.

The Twilight Zone and Black Mirror are thought provoking, edgy, interesting... Dimension 404 is cheesy, uninteresting and generally boring.

Do yourself a favor and watch something else.

Personally loved it
nadinemccarthy22 April 2017
These seem to be updated throwbacks to when I was a youngster 50 years ago. Loved the nostalgic feel to the show. I'm only on episode 3 but the show has captured my attention. I actually enjoy that it isn't depending on lots of special effects to achieve good ratings. I'm going to enjoy sharing this series with my family and friends.

Enjoyed it for what it is
nathanchow-1111923 April 2020
This show isn't as dark as Black mirror which people compare it to but more comedic and light and i enjoyed it. It's intended for a younger audience and doesn't give you the feeling of dread at the end of an episode. It's like a thrill ride. It reminded me of goosebumps and are you afraid of the dark (2 shows i loved growing up) but modernized and primarily focusing on sci fi. There were some noticeable themes of inclusion to give people of certain sexual orientation more representation but they weren't intrusive. I kinda liked that they added that because it allows viewers a glimpse into what it's like living their lives meanwhile telling a compelling story the viewers can relate to. It's a pity it's only 6 episodes. I'd love to see more of this.

"White Mirror"
prinde_oaia8 April 2017
After watching this i rewatched the episode i like the least from Black Mirror and it made it look like it was the best episode in the whole history of cinema. That's how bad this is. At first you think that maybe the show has an humoristic tone or maybe it is just trying to make fun of other shows like Black Mirror or Outer Limits. Twenty minutes into the first episode you start to realize that the "ironic tone" of it is actually a result of incompetence so you finish the episode and start the new one hoping for the best. Second episode, you see Patton Oswalt, you think "oh, i know him from Brooklyn 99" or whatever " he s a decent actor, maybe this show will pick up" then it totally disappoints again. Third episode..just stahp

Very enjoyable and clever
janefgdoe29 January 2019
I didn't know anything about this show, I was intrigued by the title and binge-watched it in 3 days. Obviously I enjoyed it a lot. I read in the reviews many people compare it to other similar shows. Well, I don't. I haven't seen the Black Mirror, but I remember enjoying the "Twilight zone" when I was a kid. Also, I happen to be a huge fan of sci-fi short stories. I really really like this genre, because it escapes from the trend to write endless sequels, prequels and whatnot. It's just a good story with a beginning and an end and that's it. So basically, that's what you'll get from the Dimension 404 - a good story. Each of the episodes is a separate story and it's a VERY GOOD story. My favorite episodes are 1, 5 and 6. "Chronos" also was very good, but I think it had some scientific flaws. But basically all of the episodes were fun and engaging on a deeper level. And they left me thinking and sharing my thoughts with other people. In short, I was surprised and amazed. Also, I like the length of the episodes and I liked that they are not too dark. I don't think good books or films should be dark and gruesome. A good story is a good story and those stories were good for me. I hope there is a second season.

An electronics version of The Twilight Zone

Does not build the mood it tries to instill from the intro
thecoryguy9 April 2017
Strange... Is this supposed to be a thriller or a comedy? Is it meant to imitate shows like Black Mirror? I can't decide how this show wants me to feel.

EVERYTHING has EXTREME lighting. Goofy. Not sure what it's trying to achieve. If it want's to be slightly depressing, then for goodness sake, dim the lights a little.

A twilight zone emulator but less serious
stephankinney-7460530 November 2019
If you like the premise of shows like twilight zone, the outer limits and dark mirror, but would be open to see a not quite so dark and at times comedic version, then this is for you. The writing isn't spectacular and the actors definitely ham it up, but it's all fun, because they're in on the joke. While it's not for everyone horror/comedy is my favorite genre and there really isn't enough of it. If you like movies like army of darkness or books like John dies at the end, give this a try. It's a short series and not a bad way to kill a lazy day.

Entertaining Anthology Show
mikebos7 April 2017
Dimension 404 is an entertaining anthology show, containing elements of fantasy, horror and sci-fi. It's not meant to be anything but fun. And that it is. (Don't pay attention to that review mentioning Black Mirror. Black Mirror sucks.) I'm no fan of Patton Oswald, but his episode is, so far, the best.

Not the Twilight Zone, but still good
ekkotrakker26 April 2017
This is a good show. Most of the negative reviews below clearly expected something different than what they got, and went in with those expectations rather than taking this show for what it is. The second you see the opening, you will have an indication of what you are about to get. The intro song is a sort of spoof of the Twilight Zone and Outer Limits openings, and that is exactly what you get when you watch the show. This isn't Black Mirror, or the Twilight Zone, or the Outer Limits. What it is is a much lighter, sort of goofy, almost satirical take on the genre that generated these shows. It is funny and not nearly as disturbing. If you never left the 90s and are still looking for that same dark, gritty episodic sci-fi that the Outer Limits did so well, then you are going to be disappointed. If you don't take yourself or your media quite so seriously and want something a little bit silly and fun that still feels strangely like the shows listed above, then this is for you. There are some downsides. Aspects of certain episodes seem dragged out. Montages and transitions often go on for far longer than they need to. The show was produced by a studio used to making 15 minute shorts and, at times, it shows. Overall, it is still a fun show to watch and the primary complaint, that it isn't enough like the source material that inspired it, seems to miss the point entirely. If you want to watch Black Mirror, go watch Black Mirror. Don't try to project your expectations for that show onto this one. But it you take Dimension 404 for what it is, you may just find that you enjoy it.

Apart from one standout episode, mostly uninspired
wladisha20 April 2017
The show is OK. Most episodes - except one standout - fall between uninspired and passable.

It's packaged in a Twilight zone format (even has a narrator) and it tricks you into thinking you are in for a real interesting story. But then, you realize - it doesn't want to be a genre show; it wants to be a "social commentary" show just like Black Mirror.

The one episode that does stand out (and it truly is a wonderful episode) is the only one that embraces its sci-fi roots and plays it straight all the way. It's inventive, it's refreshing and it's FUN. Give me a show like that every week, and I'll always be back for more. Just... lose all the extra baggage.

In short, Dimension 404 has potential but is barking up the wrong tree. If it ever stops trying to be "relevant" and finds its own voice (Chrono Teens, unite!) then I expect it to become a real cult hit.

Lame
lesliecurtin3 May 2020
The first episode was ok but it went downhill from there. Maybe if I were a 12 year old boy I would like this but, ugh. Only worth watching during the pandemic quarantine and that's IF it's the only thing on.

Don't pass this off
valimorg29 October 2018
If you are a fan of the Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, Black Mirror, anything similar, then you will enjoy this!

I am only a few episodes in, but have enjoyed every episode so far. Don't expect it to be as serious as the other show listed it is not, it is a bit more lighthearted than those, but the episodes are fun to watch. Each with their own storylines

Dimension 404 isn't a rip off
SockBox_Studios9 June 2019
People keep saying this is a bad black mirror. But tv shows can be formatted this way. This show was made for a low budget because it was crowd funded. It holds up and has good storylines. Some episodes aren't so good but it is worthy to watch all the way through. The elements of story were strong and there were easter eggs hidden throughout the show. Enjoyable watch I would recommend this to people.

Dimension - Same Old, Same Old
Naldoman15 June 2017
No, the stories are not unique or "never anything like it". It's the same old rehash "twist" kind of stories made popular by The Twilight Zone. The opening monologue is pretty much a paraphrase of TZ, with a little Outer Limits thrown in.

The stories are NOT like Outer Limits, though. Outer Limits was hard- core, very eerie and uncompromising. D-404 are very cheeseball in comparison. The actors kinda ham it up on purpose. Not bad acting, but they're in on the joke.

Don't be disappointed because you can guess the ending in 5 minutes, just enjoy the ride and be happy it's not made on a discount budget.

Definitely for Children 30 and Below
twelve-house-books29 May 2019
This is a series for children 30 years of age and younger. It is important to develop programming for our children, and what better viewing than ideas which support the infantile Millennial age group? Forget truly cerebral, intelligent stories such as X-Files and Twilight Zone and Night Gallery and Alfred Hitchcock and (ahem) Millennium. Those programs are far too deep--and far too dated--for today's children who prefer to be spoon-fed their concepts (if they have time for ideas, that is). Good job, producers, directors, and actors for providing yet more pablum for the zombified children of our day.
