We Have a Ghost (2023)
Not bad, but not great either
For a family movie there is a lot of swearing in this movie and a few of the scenes seemed a bit inappropriate so beware if bringing younger children. I was excited to watch this for David Harbour was in it, but was pretty frustrated to find out he didn't have any actual lines. I felt it took away from the movie immensely. Though he did a great job conveying what he needed to say with his acting. The movie felt alittle dragged out in the beginning, but then at the end it seemed a bit rushed as they put Ernests story together. I would say it's probably not worth going to the theater for, but it's a good watch for when you have nothing else going on.
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022)
If you love Weird Al this is a must watch
Spoiler Alert!!!
Don't expect this to be an actual bio pic. It's not, but it's hilarious and has some good Weird Al music. Daniel Radcliffe does a great job and I loved all the cameo's. This is more of a biography meets action flick. It's kind of all over the place with it's plot, but it was very entertaining none the less. Don't put too much thought into the movie or you may not enjoy it. I Iaughed plenty during this and other times I was left scratching my head wondering what I just watched. I had to explain to my daughter Weird Al didn't do everything in the movie that they showed because some of it he obviously didn't do.
Lightyear (2022)
Ignore the haters
We just took our daughter and her friend to this. They both enjoyed ot very much. While there are some slow moments there is plenty of action an excitement as well. The animation and acting was good as well.
The Vast of Night (2019)
Very anticlimactic
This is a very slow going movie. Not too exciting really until the end of it, but again a very anticlimactic ending. It seems they were trying to be artsy with this as well. Jumping between what looks like a TV out of the 50s and then back. It was kind of annoying. As well as the long periods of nothing but a black screen. Not sure what that was all about.
I feel this could've been executed much better.
I Think We're Alone Now (2018)
A movie that makes no sense
This movie started out good, but then just went nowhere. It was pretty slow and full of long silences.
Suddenly a girl shows up, guy lets her stay in his town. She gets in trouble for going into a house, no reason given why. Time goes by, they start making out in his truck, suddenly girls "parents" show up out of nowhere. They take her back to there place, guy go gets her, the end.
Too much left unanswered to really understand what this film is about.
October Faction (2020)
Decent
This show has it's hokey moments and some of the CGI isn't great and the story line has been all over the place, but I have enjoyed it thus far.
Some people are bashing the age difference but are off on the math.
The flash backs the father character, have so far gone back to like 1995 and as far as 1998. So technically there is a 23-25 year difference. So as long as he looks even he is supposed to only be like 18 in the flash backs he'd technically be around 41-45 years old. Granted he does look more like he is in his 50s.
Anyway I encourage everyone to give this a chance. Just note it doesn't feel like it is meant to taken too seriously. Don't think too much into things.
Roswell, New Mexico (2019)
Not good, but can keep your attention
Only two episodes in. Though just about everyone has stayed, I was also a fan of the original. I have been looking at this as a seperate show all together to keep an open mind. Though it is rather bad. I don't mind the PC stuff that others have complained about, more the way the show feels. Trying too hard to get you to relate too characters, the back stories to get you to understand how others feel. Just seems goofy. The show is pretty predictable as well. Tho
Dimension 404 (2017)
Don't pass this off
If you are a fan of the Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, Black Mirror, anything similar, then you will enjoy this!
I am only a few episodes in, but have enjoyed every episode so far. Don't expect it to be as serious as the other show listed it is not, it is a bit more lighthearted than those, but the episodes are fun to watch. Each with their own storylines
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)
Main characters were terrible, rest of the movie was good.
I pretty much enjoyed everything about this movie (except like the majority) I agree the two main characters. They were terrible, and just kept dragging the movie down. If not for the supporting cast, this movie would've really sucked. Bad choice on casting.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
An OK film
The film is alright, but I was frustrated watching the whole thing.
First off, I feel like just about every batman movie I've seen as started off the same way, or had a similar scene in it regarding his parents funeral. I get maybe some people have no clue what Batman is about, but it doesn't mean we have to see it in each movie.
Secondly the choice for Lex Luther bothered me. I've seen better adaptions of the character that I felt would've felt better with this film. I couldn't help think of the joker every time he spoke, instead of Lex Luther.
3rd I've just never been a fan of Ben Affleck playing Batman. I always try to put that aside watching these, but it always gets to me.
These didn't really take away from the story line for me, but there were plenty of events that occurred that made me think, Seriously?! The think that got me the most, was seeing Superman surviving a nuclear blast in space, however he gets stabbed after the fact and that's what "kills" him in the end. I don't think he is really dead, but they did a full military funeral for him and tried to play it off like he was. I guess we will find out though.
Hush (2016)
Not sure how this is getting good reviews
I won't say the movie is awful as it did keep my attention here and there, but in the end, nothing in this movie makes sense. AS noted this review contains spoilers so don't read past this.
In the beginning you see two friends hanging out. One obviously def, as they are talking in sign language. After awhile the one friend leaves, leaving the def friend by herself. The girl cleans up her kitchen, and while this happens you see her cellphone ringing obviously she can't hear it, and then you see the other friend run up to the door screaming for help, as the assailant (a masked man) runs up behind her stabbing her multiple times until he knows for sure she is dead. The def girl not noticing starts working on her laptop.
Flash forward a few moments and the guy is in her house, taking pictures of her with her friends phone and sending it to her laptop for her to see. Then goes back outside the house. Where she is then able to lock him out. Where he then reveals his face after a few attempts of trying to break back in. He cuts the power and then the games begin.
The movie goes on for like another hour of them playing cat and mouse, and it gets old quick.
Throughout, you see her make multiple attempts to escape but each time he stops her. The first attempt or two she just has to run back in before he gets her.
Then eventually she decides to try and escape through a 2nd story window, she gets almost all the way down before she realizes he is running at her, so she climbs back up, but on the way he shoots her in the thigh with his crossbow.
The next scene plays out like she has to worry about bleeding out so she dresses the wound and ties her shirt around her leg to stop the bleeding and sits there trying to think of what to do. Makes sense, except for the fact, you jump a few scenes ahead, and the guy trying to kill her, has had his wrist gouged with a hammer and taken a shot from his crossbow to his chest and was cut with a knife (i can't remember exactly where). So you'd think he'd be bleeding out just as fast if not faster.
Eventually, a neighbor comes buy, and the killer tries to act like a cop. Not sure how the neighbor thinks this in the first place as the guy is not wearing a uniform, but eventually he catches on, but the girl ruins his shot at taking him out, because apparently her writing on the window wasn't enough to convince him in the first place.
Finally in the end she decides to fight back, and is able to kill him, but not just before she almost dies, calls 911 and it's over.
The movie seems like a good idea on paper, but it felt like they were doing everything they could to make it last longer.
Ghostbusters (2016)
Started off well
So let me start by saying I was one of those who immediately disliked the thought of the Ghostbusters getting rebooted. That I was never originally going to watch this. However last night after finding it on redbox my wife and I decided to give it a chance. Hearing that this film wasn't that great, we were watching with lowest expectations we possibly could.
After seeing the whole thing, I don't feel this was really a reboot, but more just a remake of the first two smashed into one film, with a few cameos from the originals that are still alive (and even slimer and the stay pufft marshmallow man).
The movie basically started off the same as one of the originals, with a college professor teaching a physics class and someone coming in asking about ghosts and wanting them to come investigate.
The first encounter is pretty similar, although this time in a historical site rather than a library or museum. The main villain is supposed to come off as weird and creepy, but does a horrible job at doing this, and doesn't really make for a good villain.
While the movie managed to make me laugh a few times, it tries really hard. They have Chris Hemsworth as a dumb blonde secretary (eye candy for the women I suppose) but the scenes with him were dumb and just took away from the movie every time (minus the end since his body gets taken over by the villain}. The jokes between the female cast weren't that great either. The jokes about the egg drop soup, were getting incredibly old throughout the movie as well. Just the same thing over and over.
As for the effects, they weren't terrible. The thing that turned me off in regards to the ghosts, was just some of the ones they had. In the beginning it was just human ghosts, but then all the sudden we are seeing ghosts of a dragon, to super giants, which brings me basically to the end of the film.
The sequence to the end of the film, was basically that of one of the originals with the ghosts suddenly flying all around the city and them having to climb to the top of the tower to take him out, with the twist of him turning into a giant ghost like the ending to one of the other originals and then getting pushed into a portal to another dimension. Which was dumb in how they even did that.
In the end, I think this film could've been better, if they hadn't focused so much on the originals like they did. Before the trailers were released for the movie, the creators of the film even stated this was going to take place in its own universe and they were going to leave the original along, but it didn't really feel like it did.
They should've left the originals alone.
The 5th Wave (2016)
Terrible
This movie was terrible. I like the concept of the story, but that was it. The main character was stupid and her acting was horrible and just the actions of everyone in the movie doesn't make since, minus the main villain. The plot itself was pretty flat. There were also just too many things that didn't add up. Like the moment she gets off the bus. If the sole purpose was to collect the kids, why let her walk off the bus and why not wait for her to get back. The whole love twist was silly as well. There aliens trying to survive, I doubt the last thing they are going to do after killing off half the human race is start falling in love with them. Also the ending was horrible. I wish I could get my 2 bucks back from Redbox. I strongly urge you not to waste your money on this. Don't even bother getting a pirated version you'll just be wasting your time.
