A wind of freedom - a beautiful moment of cinema
johnpierrepatrick28 April 2020
A wind of freedom is the name of the movie in French and seems to me as a better name than Inversion - which is the litteral translation.

Behnam Behzadi tells us the story of a family in Teheran, focusing on 1 brother and 2 sisters, facing their mother sickness. If the story is anchored in Teheran and filled with Iranian specificities, it also feels like a simple story that could happen in any country. The depiction of the relationships felt very true and you'll find beautiful characterization. The direction stays really sober - it doesn't make the mistake of overdoing things (characters, story, ...) and that simplicity is one of the reason this movie feels universal. That serves the (quality) story, to express the bitterness and frustration. However it occurs as if in the eye of the cyclone, with the feeling that calm and peace are never far.

It is really told beautifully and Sahar Dolatshahi is a wonderful discovery for me as an actress, so expressive whether it be happiness or cold anger. I can only advise to watch it, this movie is far above its current rating of 6.2! An hidden gem if you select by rating, and a really nice moment of cinema!

Again, very good movie from Iran. Realistic story, very well made characters and dialogues. The story flow is great.. Almost perfect!
