After a promising opening episode the second episode really hits it stride. I chuckled several times in the opening few minutes.
Will's new play is about the death of Mary, Queen of Scots by Elizabeth who cuts her down. He wants to present the play to Queen Elizabeth.
Kit Marlowe with help from Kate steals the play. Kit whose plays are ghost written by Will wants to offer the play to Queen Elizabeth instead and pass it off as his own.
Will recreates the events of Kit's action in his own new play to get Kit and Kate to own up to their trickery. However when Will finds out that Elizabeth might be seriously ill and the succession could pass to Scot King James VI, he realises that a play about the death of Mary, Queen of Scots might not be prudent in the circumstances.
This episode certainly reminds you of the Blackadder series, nothing wrong with that, the series improved immeasurably when Ben Elton came on as co-writer.
What Elton has brought here is a tightly constructed script that works in many levels and is also funny.
