2 stories as one
ferguson-616 October 2020
Greetings again from the darkness. We've seen it before. Two stories, seemingly unrelated, yet parallel. Only this time it's based on a true story, and the 2017 book "All My Tomorrows" by Brian Gregory. Director Lance Hool and co-writers Veronica Hool and Robin U. Russin serve up a touching and inspirational story of how the lives of families can intersect, and how triumph can come from tragedy.

Admittedly, the film has a bit of Lifetime Movie Channel look and feel. It even begins with some conventional philosophy on life courtesy of our narrator: it's either a miracle or it's not, and life either happens to us or for us. These are neither particularly thought-provoking nor deep, however, they do set the stage well enough for the story. We first see an unconscious Chris Gregory (Jacob Elordi, THE KISSING BOOTH) being wheeled on a gurney into the surgical area of a hospital. His loved ones are obviously concerned. We then cut to a period many years earlier as a young Cuban boy passes out on a soccer field. We learn Jorge Bolivar has a lung disease, and has been told at various stages that he wouldn't live past 12, 20, or 30 years old.

Despite the different time periods, we see the symmetry with the romantic interests of the men. Modern day college student Chris (also the film's narrator) literally bumps into Sam (Tiera Skovbye, "Riverdale"), and the two become 'Safety Buddies' on campus - offering a ride to those students in need. An older Jorge (Adnan Canto, "Designated Survivor") locks eyes with flight attendant Leslie (Radha Mitchell), which kicks off a whirlwind globe-trotting romance. Chris is a middle-class boy whose parents (Kari Matchett, Tahmoh Penikett) are loving and demanding. Jorge is part of a wealthy Cuban family forced to relocate to Miami due to political pressures under Castro.

Keeping up with the time period for Jorge and Leslie involves spotting the clothing styles and technology hints, and very few viewers won't know where this is headed well before it gets there. The two staged weddings provide all kinds of cuteness, as does goofy, easy-going Chris. Life perspective is one of the key takeaways here, as is a fact that most people should already be well aware: organ donors make a difference and mean the world to those impacted. The film ends with a note on the Gabriel House of Care, a non-profit worth researching.

Decent story, sub par execution
laurelmecca7 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The acting and writing was a little cringey. The ending of the movie was given away far far before the "twist" because they made such a big deal out of Chris being an organ donor. I also feel like they could've told more story and gotten you more attached to Chris instead seeing where his imaginary future led. Otherwise, it was decent and watchable.

Have your tissues ready
trinaboice27 October 2020
IN A NUTSHELL: Based on the dramatic true story from the 2017 book All My Tomorrows: A Story of Tragedy, Transplant and Hope by Brian Gregory, the movie intertwines two families' lives. It tells the story of Christopher Gregory and Jorge Bacardi, who is practically Cuban royalty of the Bacardi Rum dynasty. Directed by Lance Hool, the movie is family-friendly and sugary sweet. Chris Charalambous, the Head of Acquisitions at Freestyle stated, "We believe 2 Hearts is the kind of heartwarming and uplifting love story that audiences need right now and will want to experience." A special thanks to all of those who bravely declare themselves organ donors on their driver's license. They will live on in all of the lives they touch.

TIPS FOR PARENTS: The movie is about a double lung transplant. You might need to explain to your kids what that's all about. Some profanity Lots of kissing Someone dies

THEMES: "There are only 2 ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." - Chris/Narrator There are things that are more than meets the eye. Life is helpful when you can zoom in and out of it in order to get a proper perspective. "When things don't work out, there's always a reason." - Grace (Kari Matchett) Being an organ donor after death and all that means is explored. Triumph can overcome tragedy Life and death and everything in between

THINGS I LIKED: Jacob Elordi from Euphoria is one of the main characters, but you probably won't recognize most of the other actors. They felt like real people, not actors. Jorge Bacardi is 76 years old today, but there was a time when his parents were told that he wouldn't even live past 10 years old. There are references to having faith in God, but this is not an overtly religious movie, so all audiences will be able to relate and be inspired by it. Have a box of tissues ready when you watch this. You will cry. You feel the emotion and pain of both stories. I like how the movie poster shows puzzle pieces and illustrates how we are all connected. While her husband was in surgery for the organ donation, Leslie asked the doctor about all of the people in the waiting room. When she learned that they were all waiting for their loved ones also in surgery, an idea came to her that would bless them all. She and Jorge founded the Gabriel House of Care in memory of Christopher Gregory. It provides lodging and a community for patients and caregivers waiting for transplants. You can learn more about it. During the movie, you find out that hospitals generally don't reveal the names of the organ donors. Because Jorge and Leslie didn't know whose lungs Jorge received in surgery, they named their donor after the angel Gabriel.

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE: What's funny about this kind of movie is that critics hate it and filmgoers, especially women, love it. It's not the best movie ever made, but it sure has all the feels and that's what people want: to feel something, especially love and hope. Some of the flirtatious dialogue is SUPER cheesy. You pretty much know how things are going to go, but then the movie flips things around and surprises you. I love a good surprise. Super sappy music. The movie looks and feels like a movie on the Lifetime channel. Some of the characters joke around but nothing is really laugh-out-loud funny. Because of that, I would not call this movie a rom-com. It was sweet to watch the two romances unfold, but it would have been cool to learn more about the other lives that were touched because of the organ donations too. With a movie title like 2 Hearts, I assumed the story would be about a heart transplant, but it's not. Because it was a double lung transplant, there should have been more metaphors about breath and breathing, although Jorge and Leslie did name their boat "the breath of life" in Spanish. There are some bad acting moments.

Two lungs, not two hearts
anastasoula-tasoula13 November 2022
Don't know what to say. From one side it's a beautiful movie, broke my heart etc.

From the other side not so realistic. Lungs-transplant is not a "oh i received them everything is great" kind of thing. Been there done that. Still recovering. The way is bigger than it seems.

The important thing is to be a donor, not so often but life changing for humans I don't know if the movie passes the message But goo people, be one life miracle from death Plus last but not least, there's no way to meet the donors family. No way for that and believe me most of us would love it One person can save 8 lives. Your choice!

True Stories are the Best Stories
anthonydapiii10 July 2021
An incredible story that makes us realize how connected we all are. Love that they made this into a movie.

Great cinematography and cast as well - it gave full detail with that.

Movie is good but...
annemarie-6802518 April 2023
The movie is good, emotional even so nothing to say about the story line as it was after all made after a true story.

But in terms of actors I do not know what happend there as they chose an actress who clearly/visibly was on her menopausal years and she was sayimg that she wishes for a big family with dozens of children and she was not getting pregnant. I mean the acress at the time was 50 so you have to understand that was not credible at all. Surely they could've find a younger actress to make it credible.

Also her hair was unwashed in one scene so not sure what happened there.

Other than that all good.

A simple "2 Hearts" review....
PerryAtTheMovies13 March 2021
Overall: An ok movie. Acting was subpar and it took too long to be emotionally attached. I don't tend to cry during movies, but when I do the waterworks will flow. If you've been wanting to watch this movie it won't hurt to watch it. It's not the straight on romantic movie I was expecting, but still it would fall in that category.

Enjoy the show!

Melt your heart
suiebabe28 October 2020
Only a few details do i know about this and was shocked to find it was a true story. The intertwined story of Chris and Sam and Jorge and Leslie was so romantic and touching yet both were heartbreaking.

Effective format
phd_travel5 January 2023
The format of this movie is quite effective. Shows the points of view simultaneously of donor and recipient and their families and loved ones.

Jacob Elordi plays the young Christopher who is seemingly healthy and in love and suddenly brain dead from an aneurysm. Adan Canto plays Jorge a middle aged man originally from Cuba who has been in need of a lung transplant for a long time.

Of course it's sad when he dies but it does show how there is some consolation in the good his donations made. Touching when the recipient and the donor's family meet up after.

Nice filming and worth a watch if you are in the mood for a topic like this. True life story.

Missing something
aimtrain10213 June 2021
I wanted to like this. I like the premise and that it was based on a true story. I usually like these types of movies, but there was something off about this. The pacing wasn't right, not enough time to really care about the characters or believe their relationships. Dialogue was a little awkward. Even Jacob's good looks and charm couldn't really save this.

It just fell flat when it could have been so much better and deeper.

Not just any movie
wruzek14 June 2021
I've read some poor reviews and am astounded that those who wrote them were fixated on technicalities of acting or the story line or some other triviality. This is the true story of heroic life-saving goodness. How can that be ignored? To those who love and appreciate life, you won't be disappointed!

Deep, very emotional and full of messages
Abd_Elrahman_Tarek8 November 2022
One of the few films that leaves a beautiful impression inside you. I haven't cried that hard in a long time. It's about life, your role in it, and how you can be influential during your life and after your death. I loved how they showed that we are all connected in some way. Life is not a life without family, friendship and love, all these meanings were shown by the movie very well. This movie is very emotional and Full of messages for everyone, and most importantly, it is based on a true story, I was not aware that it was based on a real story before the subtitles but when I found out, that made the movie great. It is very much worth watching.

Do true stories always have to be this boring with bad acting?
Thrill-Seeker11 December 2022
Despite relatively high IMDb rating, 20 mins into the movie, and its way bad for me to continue watching.

Probably movie should have been named "2 Stalkers" instead.

So I decide to read the plot on Wikipedia and decided to move on to next movie on my list.

I don't get all the people who are praising the hell out of this movie.

The acting is bland and the behaviour of characters is childish at best.

From the college freshman first at sight love yet unconvincing and way over the top.

To the businessman who seems to have nothing else going on his busy life other than stalking and pretentiously running into the stewardess and expecting the audience to find it cute LOL.

Rather beautiful story...
paul_haakonsen13 November 2022
When I stumbled upon the 2020 movie "2 Hearts" here late in 2022, I had actually not heard about the movie. I found it by random chance on Netflix, and of course opted to watch it since it was a movie that I hadn't already seen.

With me not being in any way familiar with the movie, director Lance Hool had every chance to impress, bedazzle and entertain me.

And he managed to do that. The storyline in "2 Hearts" is a very well-written and enjoyable storyline. So writers Robin U. Russin and Veronica Hool definitely gave director Lance Hool something profound, wholesome and worthwhile to work with. It is a very gripping and compelling storyline, just as it is a heartfelt, emotional and beautiful storyline.

The acting performances in "2 Hearts" were good, and the movie woudn't have been so enjoyable if the acting performances weren't spot on. I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, and that is something I enjoy when I sit down to watch a movie, as there are no connections associated to other previously portrayed characters by the faces of the actors and actresses.

"2 Hearts" is a very beautiful movie, and I was genuinely entertained by it. And this is definitely a movie that I will recommend you sit down and watch, should you get the chance.

My rating of "2 Hearts" lands on a seven out of ten stars.

Weirdly paced movie.
hnsczfnt30 November 2022
For most of the part this movie feels like it is very fast paced, the development is just too long, and it takes a more heartful turn very late. The relationships shown in the movie aren't convincing enough to make it heart touching. As it based on a real event, so it has that factor where to connect to other people's feelings. After the development phase that takes almost 70% of the screentime, the movie shows us an emotional way in which the two stories portrayed get connected.

If we talk about visuals, it has that dull shade that makes us believe that the happiest moments are not always perfect.

Nice movie
lisafordeay15 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
2 Hearts is a 2020 drama starring Jacob Elordi(from The Kissing Booth),Adam Canto,Tiera Skovbye and Radha Mitchell. Based on a true story about Christopher Gregory and Jorge Bacardi this film tells the story of 2 different couples. One a young couple named Chris and Sam who are in their late teens while the other is a businessman named Jorge and a flight attendant named Lesile who fall in love after Jorge meets Lesile on a plane during a business trip. However tragedy strikes between the two men which leaves one of their wives heartbroken.

Overall its a real tearjearker especially towards the end(if you read the story about Chris and Jorge you know what happens).

Good film.

Two Love Stories - TTwo families - TRUE Story
ajvariety15 February 2021
Two very beautiful stories following two families with two love stories - and a turn of events - which will bring them together in the end. Very moving - very touching - at times comical and lighthearted - and then very spiritual with a message of true love and importance of family - and of caring for others. The sceneries are breathtaking and the characters very believable and their connections and relationships hold your interest to the end. The fact based on real people - just completes the story.

Good Tearjerker
tiffanytallent198118 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
If you like Nicholas Sparks books and movies, you'll probably like 2 Hearts. It follows the same formula of finding great love and going through equal or worse heartache. I thought the movie was okay overall. Some parts were better than others. The acting from the younger couple, Chris and Sam, could've been better. Something was lacking and I'm not sure what it was exactly. I enjoyed the love story of the other couple better. They (Leslie and Jorge) had more chemistry and really seemed to be in love.

I figured out what would probably happen early on in the movie. They threw in a long scene of an imagined future of the younger couple, while Chris was in a coma. I thought it felt forced and too perfect and wasn't shocked to find out it wasn't real. This one definitely had me in tears during a few scenes. I especially liked how it ended with both families. It was bittersweet, but it still felt like it was meant to be.

Avoid
sps-7065925 June 2022
Mind numbing, terrible dialogue, astonishingly poor acting, virtually unwatchable.

Can't believe anyone would make anything so dated, in 2020.

What on earth has happened to Radha Mitchell? She used to have a future.

Beautiful and sad!
tracimyers197219 October 2020
It was a beautiful story. I prefer going to movies without knowing what happens, so I was stunned with the outcome. I loved Chris' spunk. And he and Sam had such great chemistry. Jorge and Sarah's love was beautiful too. Lots of sweet times spent together telling their beautiful love stories and how they eventually connect. Reminds us that there is always good even in the bad!

A solid 7.5
mosslaura7 October 2023
I put this on as background to scrolling on my phone. It's by no means the best film out there, but it is engaging. By the end, I'd put down my phone and had some (more than a few) tears.

It's a lovely film. And I didn't realise it's based on a true story until the end. Which made me cry even more - and I'm not a cryer. It's a sadhappy/happysad film, executed well.

The characters are engaging, but there's limited exploration of their lives and motivations. In that respect, it is quite 2D. But I liked them all the same.

I'd say it doesn't have the best score, but tbf I barely remember it. I watched this last week. My review is purely based on the fact I keep thinking about it. In a positive way :)

Heartfelt but not quite there
anita-borkamo23 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I did like the romance parts with Radha Mitchell. She looks stunning in her airline dress and has so much warmth and beauty in her appearance. However, the other couple didn't interest me that much, actually I found the male lead to be...what can I say...well, not so captivating. But he plays a regular guy who falls in love with a regular girl, so what more is there to expect, after all, stories built on truth are not always that good. However, they add a fantasy marriage and family life, I'm not sure if that's working. The grief played by his family members felt real. Would I watch this again. No.

So jumpy
vivianpendergast14 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The movie has such good feel and Jorge is such amazing heart warming character but the movie jumped around so so so much and really did lack an actual story line. And if they actually added to the story it would've made the story so much more devastating. I love that it's true story so i have a little more understanding that it can't be that fictional.

only watch if you're into tear jerkers
buckythewonderhorse13 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I feel like this was a bit of a bait-and-switch: a pleasant romantic story (or pair of stories) suddenly veers into a very sad movie. If you're into sad movies, this might be for you. If you want something pleasant or uplifting, look elsewhere.

Spoiler: kind of weird and unpleasant is the way they do it. I thought I knew what was would happen, but then the star pulled through in hospital, married, had a kid, and I was wondering where the twist was. Well, the twist was "the last 20 minutes of the movie didn't happen, in fact he died in hospital" I felt like they strung us along for far too long. A minute or two, fine, but 20 minutes of movie and a good (at least) 5 years of life? Weird.
