weak n convenient screenplay
beevenkat23 April 2019
#Maatr is Raveena's film all the way - good to see her on the big screen - the narrative is about a mother n daughter who are gang raped - the former survives while the latter is slain - as expected, the cops are insensitive n indifferent - within minutes the mother is devoured by 'badle ki bhavana' n she kills the offenders, one by one, without any backing - the basic premise may seem stimulating, but the weak n convenient screenplay wrecks everything n the film turns into a humdrum revenge drama. Rating 2/5.

Maatr - A mother's revenge!
g_aparna25 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Let me start the story with a 13 years old girl from a broken family – Meenal. Meenal is a school going girl studying in class 8 or 9. She is from a broken family – in the sense that both parents are often fighting with each other – father is a frustrated drunkard and mother is dissatisfied with her husband. She quietly sits locked in her room when her parents scream and shout at each other! In comes a young boy – in his early 20's and sees the state of the broken family. He realizes that the man of the house is an incorrigible drunkard and the wife is frustrated. So in order to have free sex with the frustrated- but experienced in s*x- wife, he gets a bottle of alcohol for the husband and himself enjoys sex with the wife – i.e. Meenal's mother.

One day he sees a young Meenal at home and shows interest in having her as the sex mate instead – but obvious folks – daughter is barely 13 or 14 – young and taut skinned – much more alluring for a man in his 20's. But since he is having free sex with the mother at home so he forces her to meet him at the hotel or else he will destroy the house....blah blah - basically Meenal succumbed to his advances out of fear and started going to his hotel – dressed like an 'escort girl'!!

Now Meenal has a friend called Tia in school. Tia's mother is a teacher in the same school. At the annual function of the school, Tia's team (that included Meenal) win a prize for best presentation – they presented the Ramayana btw. The Chief Minister had come as the chief guest and his son – a wasteful drug addict son - along with is friends (that included the boy who used Meenal) had come to watch the annual function. The boy – who used Meenal for sexual services – points out to his friends that he was having a good time with Meenal. They ask him to invite her over to their farm house that night. Meenal refuses and says – lies - that she is going home with her teacher and friend Tia in their car.

The boys followed the car and by chance the car meets with a small accident – as they were trying to take a short cut – Oh! Don't trust the GPS in India...not as yet folks! Since the place was isolated, the boys – around 7 of them carry the mother and daughter to their farm house – rape them both and then decide to even kill them! Tia dies but her mother survives! Vidya – Tia's mother – remembers all the guys who raped her daughter – she reports to the police but because the CM's son was involved, so the case was dismissed! Vidya herself kills the guys – one after the other!

Certain scenes are pretty disturbing!

CM's son does not care to talk to the cops politely! He treats them like muck and the police officers were also shown as helpless porcupines!

A school going girl goes to the hotel in the evening dressed as a pick-up girl! Broken family girls usually take up such odd jobs! Shows the importance of well knit families and strong moral values – or else the children of the family have to face the brunt of it! Basically it was because of Meenal that Tia had to lose her life! Poor Tia was an ordinary girl of a school teacher....though even her parents were not compatible – they were just living together so that Tia does not have to face the trauma of being from a broken family! Alas – in spite of all the act put up by her parents – she dies a gory death!

The CM was a criminal as all his crimes were being enlisted as he was fighting for elections! Shows how dumb is the common Indian mass to elect a criminal as their leader! Such a criminal father will obviously have a criminal son who does not respect anyone or anything other than money, power and fame!

All the criminals die at the end. The mothers kill them all with her intelligence!

Flop

The movie looked promising to start with, but quickly escalated into becoming a disaster. It was boring with poor acting, screenplay and direction.

A very poor copy of the Original film!
inforaza27 March 2018
Maatr is a poor and infantile copy of the korean film, Don't cry mommy!

It lacks almost in every department: Story-telling, Direction, Acting and Presentation.

The way Raveena seeks revenge for her own and her daughter's rape is totally implausible and far-fetched (in fact, laughable)! There is NO sincerity and intensity in her acting.

What the director lacked in presentation, he "made it up" with some gory scenes of violence!

It was bad judgement on the part of Raveena to do this film or probably she did not know the quality of the director.

After the film ended there was a Stupid message by the Producers about his "inspiration" being his mother. In what bloody context was this message shown? Am I supposed to burst into tears? ROFL!

Don't Dare to Watch This Movie at all.
syedsafwaan20 April 2020
Firstly, I thought this movie gonna be interesting 'cause emotional mother story. Then I laugh at every Illogical scenes. Only scene I was loved that loosing up the screw and falling down the bike. Last scene was hilarious man. When she turn on the gas and leaving the house. I thought now, who is going to burn the house. Then Suddenly what I see that after got Severely Beaten he wants to light up the cigarette then boom. Waah 👏 What a Great the Great Writer's. Totally A Crap Movie. Destroyed the good concept. Eventually, What I got to know from Wikipedia that this crappy had made commercial success on box office earning around 939 million rs against 210 million rs. They took very good actors mostly from Crime Patrol Series but they failed them.

Falling short somewhere
jordansteel20 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Yeah, highlighted a good point, but then............fell short. Take revenge, thats fine but give me something believable. You take down the first guy and he goes off on a desolate road (can accept it once). The second guy in a hotel with a knife and no fingerprints or DNA come into the picture? (not to mention the footage the cops got should show her coming out of the washroom at that point). Guy 3 kills himself? He couldve just called his friend back and told him he did it at gunpoint. Guy 4 accident? What if he ddnt meet with it. How do you enter a ministers house so easily? Im not buying the festival thing. A copy of some Korean film, more like a toned down version of i spit on your grave. Ill accept a copy, but you need to make it more believable guys, dont give me just anything. Performances were fine so im giving it a 4. Had potential, blew it.

Mom (2018) vs Maatr (2018) = Pathetic
AwaixJvd16 June 2018
Two movies back to back with exact same movie plot and exact same story writing. What is wrong with Indian directors? Just because it appeals you, doesn't mean you make it exactly same without adding ANY spices and plot twists. It was a pathetic remake of the original one. Mom and Maatr, both were pathetic.

Maatr is predictable and clichéd. The whole revenge saga looks very superficial.
binducherungath24 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Maatr, a film by Ashtar Sayed, focuses on one of the most sensitive topic i.e. rape and revenge. This is also Raveena Tandon's comeback film. Certainly Maatr as a women-centric film had tremendous potential but the whole effort falters. A lot of films in the past have handled this subject and that is why it becomes all the more important that how the subject is being differently handled in Maatr. The film certainly begins on a high note but 15 minutes into the film, the whole screenplay goes for a toss. It becomes very much predictable, clichéd. The whole revenge saga looks very superficial. It is appreciable that the intention of the film is to highlight and raise voice against the heinous crimes prevalent in our society, atrocities against women, but execution falters badly. The film has nothing new to offer.

Vidya Chauhan (Raveena Tandon) is a school teacher. It is a function in the school where her daughter Tia (Alisha Khan) is performing. After the programme, on their way back home, they get trapped in traffic and take different route to get rid of traffic. But a wrong turn brings their lives up and down. Apurva Malik (Madhur Mittal, Slumdog Millionaire fame) and his group of boys gang-rape Vidya and Ritu. Both of them are dumped on the road. Vidya survives but Tia gives up. Vidya's friend Ritu (Divya Jagdale) stand with Vidya during this crisis. Ravi, Vidya's husband (Rushad Rana), is unable to deal with Ritu's death.

The story proceeds further to show the revenge saga, the fights against the powerful and evil elements of the society, but things are handled very superficially. Everything turns out to be in favour of Vidya when she single handedly puts up her fight against the powerful. She seems to be at the right place at right time, which is so unreal. Besides, Vidya is shown to effortlessly use revolver overnight.

As far as the cast is concerned, we have seen much better performance from Raveena Tandon. Anurag Arora as Inspector Jayant Shroff is good. Rest of the actors Rishad Rana and Divya Jagdale have given average performances. Probably the screenplay needs to be blamed.

Maatr is a film with the right intention to highlight and raise voice against the heinous crimes prevalent in our society, atrocities against women; but the execution falters badly. The film has nothing new to offer. It becomes very much predictable, clichéd. The whole revenge saga looks very superficial.

LOL. Dumbest Writers of Bollywood get together to make this Garbage
OnjiMooteDaMarle9 March 2020
What kind of idiot writes so badly? Must be from the Film & Television Institute of India. Maybe the writers were enjoying their cocaine & whatnot while writing this film.

Everything that happens in this movie only happens so that Raveen can take revenge and people feel - wow! How terrible the film has been written - the way the cop talks to Raveena, no female cop at all to take statements, Raveen gets up from the hospital and goes on to get her vengeance. Everything is so convenient. Put some struggle into writing. Already seen a film called MOM which was also horribly written. Badly written characters. The husband keeps talking about the same thing - the turn. Depressing to see that such shamelessly written screenplay gets producers. Doesn't deserve even a single rating.

Badly written, directed and executed
sibtainremtulla13 April 2020
The film is awfully written and what could have been a gripping movie ends up being a shameful adaptation. The scenes have no impact and the film is amateurishly directed
