To jump or not to jump

Warning: Spoilers
"Hopptornet" or "Ten Meter Tower" is a Swedish 16-minute documentary short film from 2016, so still fairly new. This one got directors Axel Danielson and Maximilien van Aertryck a pretty nice amount of awards attention, so no surprise, it is the most known work for both of them and all that with such a simple premise. We see several people from both sexes and different age groups stand up on a ten meter tower and watch them fight their inner demons to find out what will prevail: the fear of jumping or the fear of not jumping. It's not 100% necessary to get subtitles, but I would still recommend it for the conversation between the boy and girl early on. The biggest problem I had with the film deals with the concept itself because knowing they are filmed probably had a huge impact on their decision (now they really would be seen as cowards, not just by themselves, but by everybody who watches this one too) unless they weren't told afterward. This is the approach I would have preferred. And the one who doesn't jump at the end was something I didn't really like either, basically only because he was the only one I think. "Freude schöner Götterfunken" is of course always a delight. Good documentary overall that shows us how easy it is to test our limits still these days and how everybody behaves in their very own unique way. Go check it out.

Fear of Heights
KyleLicht15 June 2020
I have a fear of heights and this was a bit tense for me to watch. At the same time, it was funny to see people hesitate and whimper out. However, the choices of which angles they showed and didn't show weren't very consistent.

So, there were certain things I'd like to see like a POV shot or showing splashes when they didn't. It was a bit all over the place and could've increased my anxiety more if they wanted to.

AMAZING AND TRUE!

Wow! ONE OF THE BEST SHORTFILMS!

The Human impact and analysis of the free choice under pressure.

A MASTERPIECE OF SHORTFILM!

This catches so many human feelings of our spectrum, which everyone can relate to sometime in their life.

This film deserves every prices it can get! It deserves the million of views it has on youtube!

It captures that classic and unique moment we all experience at some point in life, the mix between excitement and terror! And how differently we humans react!

The mixed editing of different angels, that captures difderent moments is amazing!!!

The slow motion, the music in the end and the wind sound fits sooo great, as it captures the point of no return back to safety. Beautiful and genius! So good idea of a shortfilm!

It also shows how strong a human can be, bo going back and jump though the body says no to it. How strong it can be by tricking your brain.

To jump or not? To dare or not?

A BEAUTIFUL MASTERPIECE OF THE COMPLEX HUMAN MIND AND THE PSYCHOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF OURSELF!

the decision

The basic good point remains the status of part of short film for the viewer.

To jump or to climb out ? Each got his answer. Maybe the unknown for himself.

A public pool. A ten meter tower. People of different ages and their dialogue with friends about the decision. Some amusing moments but you feel be a short film about you.

Because the real subject remains the vulnerability, the struggle, mentioned by one of heroes of film , between brain and heart. Result, a just inspired definition of people in limit situations. Because , to jump or not is less a problem of courage but fair self definition to yourself.
