Good intro to Sasquatch
sean-265685 January 2020
I honestly didn't know too much about the subject. It just seemed interesting, but this documentary surpassed my expectations. Great interviews and take on the subject. I would recommend it for newbies or more experienced enthusiasts just looking for a good time.

Better out there
uking-405797 January 2017
I understand this is a kick-starter, so you expect a certain quality. Even so, audio sync issues, dropped transition frames, sloppy zooms, and far too much time spent on feet than many other aspects they could have tackled. Regardless if Bigfoot is real or not, this documentary is poorly done. There are far better alternatives out there that are better produced and present the evidence in more interesting ways. If you're already a believer, this may even leave you disappointed. If you're skeptical, there's no way you'll walk away from this with a changed perspective. Save yourself the trouble, and don't bother with this one. It feels more like a YouTube documentary, than anything I'd pay to see. Luckily if you have amazon prime, you won't have to. Even so, skip it.

I'm now a 25% believer . . .

Up from 10%.

A great deep dive into the potential anatomy, the Patterson-Gimlin and other film/sound recordings, and the phenomenon of Sasquatch in general.

Disclaimer: I want to believe!

A fair take on an iffy topic
rdj-sd15 December 2016
Ever wonder about the truth behind the bigfoot phenomenon but are you tired of hearing how sasquatches travel inter-dimensionally inside UFO's? This film offers a refreshing view on the sasquatch mystery by taking us to the place where the word "sasquatch" originated - the Harrison Lake area in the Lower Mainland of BC. There we meet Bill Miller, Tom Steenburg and John Green (in his last ever film appearance)and the best evidence is examined. The film also draws upon the academic power of Jeff Meldrum and the late Grover Krantz, both professors in the fields of anatomy and physical anthropology. Footprints are shown to be a telling type of evidence and the famous 1967 Patterson Gimlin film from Bluff Creek, California is re- examined closely. The evidence is given new life when Miller and Meldrum both show how hard even impossible it would be to fake a flexible foot track and a heavily muscled body with disproportionately long arms and unique, compliant gait, as recorded in the famous 1967 film. Goes places where other documentaries didn't, keeps things honest. The best documentary since "Sasquatch - Legend Meets Science" and "Bigfoot's Reflection" but does an arguably better job of wheeling out the evidence and showing its validity using very knowledgeable researchers.

I think he may be living with the rest of the fabled creatures like the loch ness monster and the yeti - entertaining to some degree.

The Unwonted Sasquatch (2016)

** 1/2 (out of 4)

If you're a fan of Bigfoot, like I am, then I'm sure you've seen countless movies, television specials and documentaries. There are so many films out there that it's hard to find anything that offers up anything new and while there's really nothing new here, the documentary remains entertaining thanks in large part to the discussions in it.

I thought the most fascinating stuff dealt with the infamous 1967 Patterson footage. Yes, we've heard about this footage countless times but here they try to give it a more scientific approach and look at how the creature was walking. The "experts" interviewed here are at least entertaining and there are some very good stories told and discussed. There are several eye-witness accounts and they too are fascinating if you're a fan of the subject.

The film appears to have been done on a very small budget as there are some technical glitches but at the same time the low-budget look gives it a bit of an atmosphere.

Poorly Produced Borefest
winstonsmith_8417 January 2022
What's this doing on Amazon? This is a YouTube video at best. Just poorly produced and uninteresting. I feel like this could have been good, but the direction and everything made it seem hastily put together with very little effort.

The Science of The 'Squatch
TheAll-SeeingI20 October 2019
For the sake of full disclosure, I've been joyously consuming Sasquatch-related media since I was a kid in the 1970's, with first exposure coming from the television series, "In Search Of - With Leonard Nimoy."

I'm admittedly well up for either or both the scientific and the ludicrous when it comes to this particular subject matter. But "Beyond The Spectrum - The Unwonted Sasquatch" has no time for the rubbishy tabloid-end of myth-making, as this ensnaring documentary is instead fully engrossed in the alleged interpretive science that's risen up from the woods over decades (in fact as the film evolves, it turns its own methodical guns on other snake oil purveyors of pure Bigfoot sensationalism). From its deep dive of The 'Squatch's likely anatomical composition, to completely convicted witness interviews and hardcore scientific dissection of the potential physical evidence at hand, this documentary drills right in to the core possibilities nature has presented, thereby disassociating itself from the hippy dippy interstellar suppositions trying to crowd its path (the detailed analysis of bipedal primate footprints is a showcase example of this doc's slant towards the interpretative "facts").

When a purported legend or myth presents itself as ripe for the public to pile onto and distort to the point of commodification, the possibility of that legend's actual physical legitimacy is rendered too cartoonish for any science to still reasonably stick to its bones. "Beyond The Spectrum - The Unwonted Sasquatch" rewinds back to Bigfoot's potential evidentiary roots, carefully reconstructing from the ground up the actual possibilities of this creature's real-world existence.

Guilty pleasure
eskrigian6 March 2017
This was a fun watch.I didn't expect to actually make it thru the whole film... how much more is there to say about Big Foot -- but I couldn't turn it off. The sub-par production value actually contributed to the whole viewing experience for me. it almost felt like a found footage experiment. There's a pretty in depth examination of the dated Patterson film - which I found fascinating - and meshed well with the faulty sound and hand-held camera. I enjoyed it. a good way to spend a winter weekend.

Garbage for gullibles

Sad. Just plainly and simply sad. Not only regarding the time and effort (and perhaps some money?) spent by the "producers" of this "documentary" about a fantasy, but specifically the sycophant crowd buying into this pseudoscientific cryptozoology tale aimed at credulous fanatics finding an as fringe support group for their pet delusion in particular. No science, no scepticism, no critical thinking required; just take in the bait with hook, line and sinker and - why the hell not - the line, too, and let yourself be drawn to the surface as the limp and apathetic fish brain you are. Just don't claim you can't see the pole.

Finally ... a serious examination of the bigfoot phenomena!

Warning: Spoilers
Surprisingly compelling. It was refreshing to have the material examined from a scientific perspective. Very academic, free of hyperbole. Especially enjoyed learning of the historical government documents detailing sightings of the creature. Validation? Makes you wonder. Also, enjoyed the paleogical theory on potential ancestors of the sasquatch. Fascinating!

Very sad

Warning: Spoilers
To say this is an amateur production is an exaggeration. Production wise it rife with low quality poorly lit and framed shots, terrible titles with paragraphs of text left on screen, tiny stock photos pulled from god knows where. Content wise it centers around perhaps 3 interviews of questionable sources of a laughable topic. Would think it was a parody if it didn't take it self so pathetically seriously. If this was crowdsourced those people need their money back. A cruel review but this production is without merit.
