Short Film Depicting the Process of Socio-Economic Change in South-East England
l_rawjalaurence26 January 2016
This film lasts only four and a half minutes, but within that time it manages to capture the process of socio-economic change on the London to Brighton train journey.

Basically a speeded-up depiction of the journey, one filmed in 1953, the other in the mid-Eighties, this short documentary shows how the landscape remains superficially similar, but the buildings alongside the track have radically changed. The rural cottages of the early Fifties have been replaced with suburban developments; and the stations have become far larger to accommodate increased passenger volume.

The journey is still a famous one, but perhaps lacks the style of yore, it's a bit difficult to obtain anything other than the obligatory "selection of hot snacks" on the train, rather than the sit-down meals in the restaurant car, as in the past.
