WOW! This is true top level Star Wars magic!
A_Kind_Of_CineMagic14 October 2020
The previous episode was wonderful and already lifted Rebels to great standards worthy of standing alongside any of the movies but this is absolutely majestic. This is a MASTERPIECE!

Enthralling and exhilerating action. Dark, thrilling storytelling. Heartbreaking and powerful connection to Anakin and Ahsoka's incredible storylines. Startlingly awesome dialogue and ideas all brought together with top class acting, inspiring music and beautiful animation.

Ezra's story takes on new levels of depth as does Kanan's. It really is massively engaging and takes their characters to new levels.

The reintroduction of Maul is stunning. The voice performance is perfect and his action is terrific. This also builds on his already tremendous arc.

The Inquisitors also get some great action and overall the level of the lightsaber duels is up with the epic movie level.

The best of all is Vader's entrance into proceeding, his face off with Ezra and then the gutwrenchingly emotional face to face with Ahsoka.

Ahsoka's own journey is storytelling at its best let alone what it adds to Anakin's story. It makes Anakin even more the greatest of characters you could get. The arc through Clone Wars and Rebels is unmissable and adds layers which are utterly heart rending. I had tears in my eyes watching these scenes!

Pure quality, pure genius!

My rating 10/10 does not even do this justice.

If there was an 11 on IMDb this would be 13

OH MY GOD! There is no words to explain my amazement by this episode. Up until now I've been watching Rebels because it was Star Wars and they were entertaining, but this, this was incredible! I haven't seen as much character development, story, feelings and action in most 2.5h movies as in this 40 min episode. The motivations, the emotional build up of the whole season, I quite simply have nothing but praise for this one, I don't remember ever being this mind-blown by a TV show. The quality was just, just... breathtaking. Now I can't wait for season 3 At the time of writing this episode is rated 9.9/10 which is 0.1 too little...

The most powerful season ending possibly written
holtpizza28 September 2019
So it's been a long time since I originally watch this, but I remember wanting to call everyone I knew and tell them if they had not seen Star Wars rebel's, than to start because the writing by this point made the viewer all in on the characters. It is a cartoon, but I was emotional at the end of this one. It was so good, when I hear the music even now, or rewatch the episode even now knowing what happens I still get goosebumps and emotional. Great writing, they need to develop the movie characters like these ones. Long live Ahoska the true hero of Star Wars!!!

All Hail Dave Filoni!!

Dave never fails to deliver Star Wars greatness. This is an example of that. This episode thrives on every level, with a nice plot and EXTREMELY thrilling action scenes (won't spoil). Best episode of Rebels hands down.

After a Slow Start, SW Rebels Achieves Greatness (spoilers)
rob-adelman31 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, mild spoilers, for this episode, parts of the Clones Wars, and arguably some of SW KOTOR.

This was arguably the best episode of the series up to this point. There were numerous payoffs for those of us who have watched Rebels up to this point, the Clone Wars, and played Knights of the Old Republic II. I'm sure I'm not the only one who geeked out when he heard Maul say "Passions give you strength, and through strength you gain power... you must break your chains."

Like the Clone Wars, this series was okay at the start and as only gotten better. This season has had some truly inspired moments – such as the breathtaking visuals in 213 Legends of the Lasat (kudos to the animators for creating something so unspeakably beautiful) – and better and better writing/character development than last season. Though, I still find Chopper kind of annoying and Sabine underused. On the upside, Zeb gets the award for the "most improved" character this season, and the addition of Rex is much appreciated (sorry, Fives, what is dead may never die). Delving into Jedi and Sith temples/mythos this season has been another highlight.

Many of us wished Darth Maul had received more screen time (and enjoyed his/Savage's arc in The Clone Wars) – this was one of his best appearances. He has always exhibited extraordinary fighting skills, but now we saw an intellect and machinations on par with other Sith lords. Maul dominated his brother; in this episode, we see his ability to lead and manipulate Ezra. And it's compelling. And it's just sneaky enough to almost be believed. Kudos to this writers.

Ahsoka and Skywalker. Maybe I should have led with this. Maybe I shouldn't comment/spoil this too much. We do finally see these two meet face to face for the first time since the end of the fifth season of Clone Wars. I have mixed, though generally positive, feelings about this confrontation. Yet, I do wonder about the vision of future Ahsoka in the Clones Wars 315 Overlords (the Mortis arc), so maybe there is more to come.

The Inquisitors. I'm on the fence. Is it better to leave them mysterious? Perhaps. But, if there were a time to reveal what they were, it would have been this episode. Also, I feel like they wasted an opportunity with Eighth Brother to reveal him to be a character we knew from earlier (perhaps a corrupted Jedi, perhaps Darth Binks...kidding). Old Master was clearly Maul. That wasn't a reveal, at all. Some mysteries are better left as mysteries, but we just found out that the Grand Inquisitor was a Jedi temple guard, so would've been nice to get a sense of the others' origins.

Ezra's darkness. This has been hinted at before, and it paid off quite well in this episode. So, speaking of the Inquisitors' origins, they may be setting Ezra up to become the final inquisitor and one last showdown between master and apprentice to truly wipe out the Jedi order. That would be ballsy, and amazing, though I have a hard time seeing Disney corrupt their young, blue-eyed protagonist whom they so clearly want their young audience to identify with.

I hope the creators continue generating such strong content and sustain story lines concerning the Jedi/Sith/Force mythos, as those have been the most engaging this season. The Mortis arc was a highlight of The Clone Wars, and I hope this show also explores the mysteries of the Force in its third season.

And, yeah, I think we all know that was Darth Traya's voice.

WOW. WOW. WOW!!

What an episode!

Absolutely had me tearing at the end.

It's amazing how a 40minute episode, can create more connection and character development than the entirety of 3 sequel films.

The writers I'd Rebels are incredible!

One of the best pieces of Star Wars media ever
nathanhalliday-130895 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Whilst The Clone Wars was the better show overall, this episode was the best episode of either of them but I guess it wouldn't be possible without the already established characters of The Clone Wars which culminated in this beautiful crossover of the two shows. Everything about this episode was perfect we see elements of the Old Republic with the ancient Sith temple/ superweapon on Malachor and then The Clone Wars with Ahsoka and Maul. But the best moment by far was Vader and Ahsoka's long awaited meeting: the dialogue was meaningful and emotional and the score was beautiful.

Incredible
marveller-6619 January 2021
C'mon. What's more cooler than Darth Vader standing on top his fighter with his burning lightsaber to strike down a jedi. Nothing. Darth Vader's return is spectacular. Even if he's got a cameo role in an episode, that episode is going to be special. Because that's the fame of that character. His suit, his menacing voice, his rage, his darkness and every other aspect is outstanding. Furthermore, the confrontation of Star Wars' most attached characters in terms of compassion and chemistry as the master and the apprentice. Ahsoka & Anakin. The long awaited meeting, Dave Filoni made it so special that tempts us to rewatch it over and over again. One of the best episode in Star Wars.

Twilight of the Apprentice
lassegalsgaard17 December 2019
This season has been slow, but apparently, it all led to this epic finale. This season has been frustrating at times, but it was all worth it, because this finale was everything that I could ever asked for. It introduced old characters that we love and missed; and reintroduced some lore from the old extended universe; and it featured possibly one of the most epic face-offs in all "Star Wars." The underlying tones of "choosing sides" in this episode was what really caught me off guard. There was a change throughout the entire thing that Ezra would begin to channel the dark side, and if this says anything about what we have coming up, he will have some serious struggles in the next season. The return of Maul was great and the epic face-off that was teased between Darth Vader and Ahsoka was everything that I could have asked for. This was the most emotional episode of the series, thus far, and definitely the peak of the greatness this series has. What a way to cap off a good season, and what a way to get everyone hyped for what's coming up next. Here's hoping that they can do something as great as this

Star Wars Perfection!!!!
sduncan-5343229 March 2022
This might be some of the greatest Star Wars work since the original trilogy and that's counting the newer things like Mandolorian and Bob Fett. Absolute perfection!!

Epic face offs and edge of your seat action but with purpose and heart to drive the story tying everything together in an absolute flawless way.

Part 2
Trey_Trebuchet27 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Pretty much everything in could have asked for in Star Wars. Exhilarating action, fantastic lightsaber dueling, genuinely sad moments, legit character development, and a few twists and turns I actually didn't see coming.

While a handful of the deaths in this episode happen off-screen, it's still pretty violent to think about. I always thought some of the biggest horrors are those we can't see, what's up for interruption. This makes all of Maul's murdering more sinister. And awesome. He made a great addition to this two-parter, and I'm sure I'll be seeing more of him soonish.

Darth Vader and Ahsoka's reunion was shocking and upsetting. I thought it was executed in the best way possible, although I'm a little shocked to hear the two of them may not be in much of the show after this!

Best of all, this finale leaves many questions open. How many more inquisitors are there? How is a blind Kanan (which is awesome by the way) suppose to train Ezra? Where tf did Ahsoka go?

Long story short, this was a great finale and an awesome piece of Star Wars.

Arguably one of the greatest SW chapter endings
Behluel15 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's 2022. I have to tell right from the beginning why I gave a 10/10.

I'm watching Star Wars in chronological order right now. All of it. Episodes 1 and 2 aside, episode 3 was fine. The end of Clone Wars was amazing and heart breaking at the same time. The Bad Batch offered some insight info of the clones and order 66.

The bad reviews of SOLO are still bothering me, it was a great flick for me and Obi-Wan had some well written master-apprentice moments.

This season ending here alone was another great chapter, maybe one of the greatest the Star Wars universe offered so far. A lot of loose endings of previous mentioned series and movies were merged into a great plot and intense moments.

Can't wait to start the next season.

Epic!
stormwaterssi14 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is the best from Star Wars universe since Empire Strikes Back.

OK, perhaps a few SW comic books created through the decades could match it, but certainly not any of the latter movies.

This pair of episodes kept me breathless for 45 minutes.

To be honest, no other episode so far in the series is this good.

Nevertheless, I have high hopes for at least one episode in the season 4.

Enjoy it!

Finally some good character development, and an epic face-off!
arish0207 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Throughout the series so far, including both the seasons, the primary focus has been on the storyline (along with a great many annoying filler episodes and insignificant sub-plots), but this episode redeems quite a lot.

We finally get to see some great lightsaber duels and lots of great fight scenes. Darth (ex-Darth, actually) Maul makes an appearance and plays a significant role in taunting Ezra Bridger to explore the Dark Side. This season finale contains some very significant events that will set the course for the following season: a lightsaber attack by Maul on an unsuspecting Kanan leaves Kanan permanently blinded, and Maul claims that Ezra is now his new apprentice. At the end of the episode, we see Ezra opening a Sith Holocron (something only a Sith can do), which leaves us wondering which side of the Force we will find Ezra Bridger on in Season 3.

In addition to all the above mentioned excitement, the one scene that trumps everything is the encounter between Ahsoka Tano and Darth Vader. This is the first encounter between this former-master- apprentice pair since Ahsoka decided to leave the Jedi Order at the end of The Clone Wars Season 6. After a brief offer by Vader to Tano asking her to join him (which she obviously turns down, duh!), the two engage in an amazing duel. The fight ends with the destruction of the Sith Temple, while Ezra and Kanan escape. When the dust settles, Vader is seen limping away from the Sith Temple and Tano is seen walking back into the Sith Temple altar holding her shoulder. Both survive! Will Ahsoka return for a Season 3 appearance? Only time will tell.

This 40-minute episode clearly sets itself apart from the other episodes of both seasons, and builds up some great excitement and expectations for the upcoming season!

It's pretty perfect
Hal207824 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Season 2 of Rebels is Much better experience then the first one with more episodes geared towards a individual characters and why they struggle against the empire to begin with. This episode is probably my favourite of the show the way the sound and design complement the story of Vader and Ashoka is great. Every time Anakin sneaks through it's just immediately crushed... Ashoka has to realise she can't save him. Kansan and Ezra are also great here with Ezra being pulled in a different path by Maul who of course is brilliant but obviously there will be more with him. So good something every fan should watch... Now for season 3!!!

Is Twlight of the Apprentice the dawn of Rebels greatness?
Fluke_Skywalker25 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Plot; Kanan, Ezra and Ahsoka go to the planet Malachor, home to a Sith temple, seeking answers on how to stop the Inquisitors and Darth Vader.

Season 2 of Rebels has been up and down; mostly down. There are a few standout episodes, but most feel like weak filler. Then along comes the season finale, which sets the bar with its compelling story and cinematic scale and flair. It makes me wonder if they could deliver this kind of quality in every episode if they trimmed their season in half. Not gonna happen, 'cuz money, but one can dream.

There are some major events here; most with implications for the future. Married with its often stunning technical execution, "Twilight of the Apprentice" may represent the zenith of the series thus far, and has me looking forward to catching up with the in progress Season 3.

Season Review
atkinsonlouise-7387325 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Series 2 of Rebels ups the stakes somewhat on a number of levels. Vader joins the show and he is a menacing presence in very scene he appears. The two new inquisitors are also fearsome foes. Also the return of Maul in the finale is great. Ashoka and Rex retuning are also well done and are fleshed out well. In particular, Ashoka coming to realise what and who Vader is makes for one of the season's great arcs and culminates in one of Star Wars' best ever duels. The gang joining the rebels full time is done well, but not explored to a large extent. For me the focus is on the force weilders. Highlights are the opener which show the power and ferocity of Vader, the introduction of Rex back into the show, Kallus and Zeb forced to team up, the Lothal temple visions and of course that finale. We do get some filler episodes, but they are mostly fun at least. Some very high points, a few eh points, but mostly solid stuff. Season Score: 7.5/10.

The best episode of the whole show, and one of the best Star Wars content ever made
ardenyoung-258661 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The best episode of the whole show, and one of the best Star Wars content ever made in general.

Maul AND Vader in one episode?? Absolutely LEGENDARY.

Ahsoka vs Vader is so powerful and emotional. It is probably my favorite lightsaber duel in the whole Star Wars canon, right up there with Obi Wan vs Anakin and Luke vs Vader. The dialogue breaks my heart, seeing the two old friends reuniting and fighting. When Ahsoka breaks his mask and she calls him "Anakin..." and he says "then you will die." Chills and tears. And what a cliffhanger!! I remember the debate around "Ahsoka Lives" for years.

Despite all the amazing returning iconic characters, this is where the Rebels characters shine too. Kanan is blinded and starts his new arc, and Ezra may or may not fall to the Dark Side under Maul... say what you want about Rebels, but this episode was amazing in every way and blew the expectations out of the water. Since Clone Wars finally got its ending, I look back fondly on Rebels and its cast of characters, but this episode stands out as the best one in the show by far. After a season of build-up/set-up, the pay-off was insanely satisfying.
