Not what it seems.
chloelai-187152 May 2018
At first i thought it may be a horror, but its the opposite.. From the start it had my attention. Wonderful story line, You grow to know the characters. Unexpected but honestly it had me laughing, smiling and even near tears. In my opinion it was well worth the watch!

Amazing in an unexpected way
kelloggmay29 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I started watching this movie because I though it would be a cute and funny comedy/romance movie. I wanted to watch a romance and for the beginning of the movie I thought that's what it was. I even got so excited when Madison confessed her feelings to T and he called her back, that's when all of a sudden it wasn't romance movie. It suddenly had so much more to it. It dealt with what being a teenage "dweeb" was like, what a gay teenage boy has to go through and the struggle of a young girl who is getting sexually abused by her father. I was disappointed with the plot twist but ended up loving it since it seemed so much more realistic.

This movie is different, it doesn't end up how you think it will and it is shot in such a unique way (only through online video chats or websites or videos). I think this movie is fresh and new, I would definitely recommend it and watch it again.

Also koodoos to the actors cause they really pulled it off.

Solid film that makes you care about the characters.
christward20 January 2018
I was expecting it to be like Unfriended in the way it was shot and it was spot on like that.

It made me care about the two characters and how much they changed each others lives for the best and worse and I could relate to some of the problems but can see the things not relatable to me being very relatable to other people, I can see it being very powerful to some people.

The pacing was okay but I found the first half being quite boring but it picks up, you can see some things coming from a mile away but there was one that took me by suprise.

Overall it was a solid film but I'm not sure wether I would watch again, it's worth the watch if you're bored and fancy a random film.

Also this it my first review so forgive my structuring, hopefully I'll do more and get better. :)

Something different.
xkrevelx26 July 2018
"It's not just a drama it's something different." The movie fascinates you with its sweetness, kindness and loveliness. The best thing about Face 2 Face is that you can easily relate to it. You know that you've been there before, you can feel it. And finally.. At the end.. You know you just got a new friend.

Heart warming and Heart-Wrenching
laurenhug21 January 2018
At first I was uncertain whether I liked the film due to it's unconventional structure but once the story got going and T and Madison's relationship began to develop, I knew I had to watch it till the end. Definitely a twist ending I didn't see coming. The cast and crew have made a true artwork that will impact your heart and reach audiences in many ways, discussing topics often swept under the carpet. in society. Just like the film poster says, Your are NOT alone.

Easy to invest in

Loved it, wasnt cheesy like i thought. You actually see growth in characters and start to understand certain personality traits as the film goes on and their secrets come out.

Very nice story

Worth the click
lamiaaos23 August 2018
A perfectly subtle transition of a rekindled childhool friendship into an unbreakable bond, riddled with unravelling secrets and fears that keep you unwittingly invested until the very end, all the while rooting for two strangers who quickly become two familiar friendly faces with every flicker of their computer screens.

Acting carried the plot, first rate!
coleco200029 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
While the synopsis of the plot would suggest this movie and only two actors likely would bomb, this was amazingly interesting as the acting was top notch. The direction of the plot might even suggest two friends from youth might eventually be together were it not for the necessary twist that brought a more realistic, yet contrived, method of making this movie more sensible. Two teens were likely not going to run off together even as a Romeo and Juliet play might suggest.

As the acting and writing kept the view engaged, the one disappointing, yet only slightly and the reason for a two star deduction, plot twists that involved messages about gay bashing and father-daughter sexual misconduct. The positive outcome seemed less than realistic, but led to a way of ending the movie. Again, had the acting been bad the movie would not held one's interest.

So, yes even if you know the movie outcome the dialog and acting for this movie is well worth the viewing.

Outstanding, funny, cute and then quite disturbing
vchimpanzee25 April 2021
This starts out as an adorable comedy as two old friends who haven't seen each other in years enjoy communicating online. Occasionally it gets a little serious, but nothing to be concerned about. Then things get very serious. And even more serious than that. I have seen a number of horror movies that started out as cute comedies and then turned dark. This is sort of like that.

And of course everything we see is something that appears on a device, whether it is the entire computer screen belonging to Teel, or just the video he sends Madison, or the video Madison sends Teel. It's amazing how all this can be accomplished. I do wish we had gotten a close-up look at the text messages. On my small TV screen I was never able to read them, and the audience was not necessarily helped by seeing Teel's full screen as they were being typed.

I did not know I was seeing Daniela Bobadilla until the end credits. Had I known, I was familiar with her from two series. She was Charlie Sheen 's perfectly ordinary and adorable daughter in "Anger Management", which I have seen most episodes of on whatever channel it was on. I had forgotten she was Sue's friend, if I even knew that was her, on "The Middle". I liked her in both roles.

But never mind all that. Bobadilla makes us like her--a lot--for the minute she first shows up on Teel's computer screen. Not only is she gorgeous, but she is so friendly and outgoing and just has this great personality. Of course she annoying when she tries too hard, but that's part of her charm. And she has a vulnerable side too, which Bobadilla shows very well. She also effectively shows concern when something is upsetting but not happening to her. And then there is something absolutely terrifying before the end, and she makes that work too. Who knew Sheen's daughter Sam was capable of so much? On the other hand, Sheen would have grounded her for all that makeup, though she has a more natural look later in the movie. I could make another comment about Sheen here, but I can't say too much.

Daniel Amerman does a capable job. He has no ability to be friendly to start with and is a completely awkward nerd who has all the personality of Mark Zuckerberg. That changes and we soon like Teel as well. And while he is mostly receiving help coming out of his shell, he can give help too.

Madison has terrible taste in music. That means she's typical of girls her age. Some of the songs are better than others. Nothing quite measures up for me but I'm not in the target audience, I'm sure. Teel also doesn't like good music, though his taste is not as macho as I would have expected. Then again, he is a nerd. Anyway, the list of songs goes on for days at the end and certain names show up a lot. I have never heard of any of these people and wouldn't want to know more about most of them.

There is some nice scenery between Michigan and California. I won't explain how or why we get to see it.

I was enjoying myself for a while, and I wish the movie's tone had stayed as adorable and positive all the way through. I still liked how it turned out, but not as much. But a message at the end indicates there was a more important purpose here.

The tale of a virtual friendship!
Reno-Rangan24 January 2018
It is a B movie and a good one too. Another 'Open Windows' or 'Unfiended' kind, but much better. Because, of course it was more cinematic than real, but thematically slightly inspiring. Inspiring to fight against the sexual abuse.

The film was like found-footage type, but then it used web cam for most of the time, so I'm not sure it still can be called that. Still, there some shots with outside this criteria. Anyway, a good film. Though not in the initial stage. Because it was like any small budget film like this, a casual opening. Then the middle part changed everything. Particularly the twist at the end.

This is about two online friends. They were never before, except childhood play buddies. So one day one of them finds another and befriends. Their's just online friendship, but they talk about everything. But then it becomes more than that when issues become serious. So how they confront it was revealed in the final act.

The actors were very good. The production quality too surprisingly good. I think one of the decent such small films with good intention of storytelling. I'm really happy to see it, so I suggest it if you want to try it.

Watch the garbage fire burn...
darkdaxtervc19 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
So I went into this expecting a cheesy romantic comedy, and it started out that way, before going full Lifetime- tv movie. We start with a generic shot of the boy, T. Despite having zero friends or any real social interaction after middle school, he has no problems whatsoever communicating with others. He calls one such former friend on a lark, revealing an extremely beautiful young woman with a seemingly perfect life. Fast forwarding through the boring parts, we hit the first two major stumbling blocks: 1) He insists she change her clothes off cam, and 2) He calls her "weird and desperate" when she starts to stripteasing him. So as everyone can now easily guess, turns out that despite being seemingly smitten with and flirting effortlessly with this girl for the first third of the movie-- surprise, surprise, T is gay. Not only that but in nowheresville, USA circa 2017 this is quite the tragedy. So we blind ourselves and pretend that even though he doesn't live in the Bible belt, most of his community probably doesn't care, and the entire media culture around homosexuality has been revolutionized, that somehow he's going through highschool 40 years ago. We will also excuse the rude behavior because he was bullied for being different and beat up once by his insecure crush's two jock friends; surely one of the most terrible tales of gay men suffering ever >_>

Fast forward a little more after a failed attempt at forcing T out of the closet, Maddie reveals that she was raped. Not just once or even a handful of times in the past, but that she is the ongoing victim of weekly perhaps even nightly incestual rape. Much like how the "lonely/ antisocial" T had no problems actually interacting with others (aside from low self-esteem), Maddie's life is one of the idyllic teenage girl. She's smart, popular, fit, extremely hard-working, etc. Thus far the extent of her inner demons has been a twinge of perfectionism, one night drinking too much, and that her shitty popular friends ditched her after that night. I know every victim deals with this differently, and that some can put up a very convincing front during or after the traumatic experiences, but am I alone in thinking that level of raw betrayal can't be scar-less? Where's the drug problems, the binge drinking, the eating disorder, the mood disorder, the personality disorder, a period of slipping grades, truancy, hypersexuality, cleptomania, extreme risk-taking, agoraphobia, trust issues, constantly going back to hang with the bad crowd, gambling, something, anything!?!?!?!?!? I just don't understand how I'm supposed to believe these extremely well adjusted people have experienced the levels of suffering they claim, especially her! Most of the time, bits of madness peak out when you start getting close to someone and peel back the layers, but there are no symptoms to be seen at all!

T goes on a road trip to save her after revealing that he was low-key suicidal in the beginning because of course by this movie's logic, and we get an extremely unsatisfying, anti-climactic, rushed ending.

I'm not trying to make light of the subject matter at all, I've had many friends deal with these problems. But as a young man from nowheresville, USA who watched his little sister go through an even more tolerant education, I do know that while bullies and bigots will always exist, gaybashing is quickly disappearing. Indeed, most of that pressure isn't coming from peers anymore, but religion, parents, and especially their own teenage insecurity. But the fact of the matter is that this movie is terrible. It was hastily thrown together as fodder to be propped up by virtue-signalling Twitter mobs as a realistic movie. And again while many suffer in silence, you can tell most of the time if you actually pay attention and get close to someone. I mean not even a stutter or a scar from cutting? You can't just put up a normal teenager and say their life is hell without somehow referencing how they changed it for the better. Who is actually supposed to relate to this? Just makes me angry and wish they were more human, more flawed. I can't see how a gay boy in Atlanta or an actual victim of incest wouldn't hate this movie.

Wonderful surprise - really moved me
maggiewei727 January 2018
I was browsing through Netflix for an easy to watch movie but wow, this took me by surprise. I was expecting a goofy rom com, and it kinda started out that way but it took an interesting - and emotional - turn. I was completely hooked the entire time, and the characters were well developed. The chemistry is great between the two leads, and I genuinely believed that they were friends. Highly recommended

It's like you're third-wheeling on someone else's conversation.
TeeJay199216 January 2018
This movie entertained me but it dragged on for a while because you're mainly watching a guy and a girl webchatting each other day-in and day-out. The guy searched up the girl because he hasn't seen her since elementary school, she accepts his webchat request, and then they basically become best friends because they have no one else they trust more in their lives. The movie picks up in the last 15 minutes, but other than that, it's a fine movie. It's not a realistic computer webchat program with all the skipping and the voice cutting out like Skype usually does. I guess because it's not really Skype and that wouldn't have turned out well for a movie like this. I watched it on Netflix.

MOVIE TO REMEMBER
ginohagenaars7 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I think this movie was very good because you get to know the characters well and how their life passes. You also see that this film is building up to the point where their friendship is getting much stronger because you see that T is feeling much more comfortable than before. And in the beginning he was suicidal and then you see him changing throughout the film in a more happy person. Somehow I hoped the ending took longer and that T wasn't gay because I really shipped them hahah.

It's the definition of new communication
higlesias-315 January 2018
It is not only a story to tell, it is a new technology to show off, amazing performances and direction. It is like watching real life happening before your eyes through a screen. So innovative way of communicating that ordinary people have very interesting stories. Powerful message in a contemporary language...Face 2 Face

Best Movie I've Seen in a While
k-foto19 January 2018
This is with out a doubt, one of the best movies I've ever seen. I stumbled on it while watching Netflix and am forever grateful that I did. It makes you laugh and cry. The video chat aspect of the movie makes it feel as if you are right there with the characters, experiencing everything they are. Also, the storylines about the two main characters are so distinct yet well written. It is exactly like two peoples worlds have just collided and you are learning about each person as they grow as friends.

Also, the acting is superb. I believed every second of the movie due to the sheer talent of the main actors. I would definitely recommond this movie to everyone I meet. As a matter of fact, this movie should be spread like the "plague" due to the powerful messages contained within it.

Adorably Authentic
McBadPants25 December 2018
I typically hate videochat/chatroom movies but I have to make an exception for this one. I liked it from the beginning then it got better and then CONFLICT. I wasn't expecting at least half of the conflict that was presented and that's saying something. But besides the storyline, I've never experienced a movie that felt so realistic. Horror actors and directors should look to this film for tips. I absolutely recommend.

This movie is amazing.
episodekrystal30 July 2018
It was fun watching an old friendship spark up again. I also like how the movie also involves serious problems many teens suffer from/can relate to, including myself. I love how these friends help eachother overcome their fears and the last few minutes really brought me to tears, the entire movie was just so fantastially laid out. When I watched it, I didn't feel like it was a movie, it felt move like I was watching something that was really happenning, so thank you. This film, Face 2 Face, really made my day. I'll definitely recommend it to my friends! <333

It got REAL real fast
sammjobe13 September 2018
You guys....I thought, whoa 6.9 on IMDB? That's better than I was expecting... and I was literally in tears the last 30 minutes of this movie. You think you know what's going on, but you have no idea and it's beautiful, raw, and completely moving. I honestly think they should've used a better title and cover art because wow this movie took me for a ride. Great acting, engrossing characters, surprising plot twists and relevant material for the modern young adult. All from the perspective of video chat. If you're like me and willing to watch anything over a 3 and thought this might be "ok" and entertaining, it's going to surprise the hell out of you. Watch it.

Had me in tears.
lucy-855723 December 2019
I was browsing through netflix, looking for something to watch to help me pass the time and avoid my essay, saw this and thought it would be a ripoff of unfriended with a nice feel good trashy rom com undertone. What I got was SO much more.

As I'm writing this I'm in tears, I never write reviews but I couldn't not for this movie it's truly amazing. The story develops in the perfect way - it doesn't drag on but it's not too fast as we're able to create a connection with the two main characters. We learn about their lives, their past and how they reconnect whilst also learning some very important things about each of them which I think this film expressed perfectly; it highlights how we never truly know all of our friends and how we need to be more caring to those around us.

This is one of the best movies I have watched in a long time!
