What did I just watch?
kittaneh3 November 2019
Wasted my night watching this train wreck of a movie. A high school film class could have produced a better movie. The timelines are terrible. There's absolutely no character development and the movie continuously jumps storylines, very hard to follow. Don't believe the other, obviously, paid reviews.

Intense Drama
MayhemFilmKreations30 September 2019
A powerful performance by Andrew Lawrence! Bravo!!!! Better than Love is beautifully written, shot, and directed! The actors performances were on point and still had a realistic natural feel to their lifestyle not over doing it. Picture perfect. The twist this movie took was intense and knowing it was based on a true story it's extremely devastating. This is a great film with a strong message and many more people should be aware of that message, which is how addicting and dangerous over the counter drugs can be!

Better Than Love is a moving film about a drug dealer trying to improve his lot in life. Explores the dangers of addictive opioids and how they can tear people's lives apart. Lead actor Andrew Lawrence gives a great performance. Really liked the score and cinematography.

Gripping and Real
mentalrev19 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is a non-glamourous look at the effects of drug addiction and the climate of danger created by the black market. Gripping and raw the story moves quickly from the point of view of Jon, a low-level dealer who gets caught up in the hustle when his mentor is arrested. Jon quickly goes from low-level hustler, to the big-man in the game, briefly, before crashing to the bottom after a violent incident leaves him hooked on opiates.

This film moves with a very deliberate pace that will keep the audience engaged, if you walk out of the room with the movie un-paused you will surely miss some key event. Jon's character arc is powerful as is the performance by lead Andrew Lawrence. The cinematography is a real star in this film as is the wonderful score and sound design. The story is solid and believable and the drama hits home.

A solid indie film definitely worth the watch!

Gripping, powerful and real.

This film struck home to me as somebody who had dealt with addiction and has lost friends to addiction. The lead actor does an incredible job of showing you the realness of addiction and the different components of living with it. There's wonderful directing and cinematography that compliment the performances. Worth the watch!

A gritty well-crafted movie

Ted Carney does a terrific job keeping the tension, the love story and the personal story all going at once. Stellar performances from all the cast. Painful and hopeful, this indie film is well worth the time spent. Watch it.

Dramatic and gripping
pcbehn12 August 2019
This film sets a new standard for down to earth realism and depiction of a nasty industry. The script, direction and acting are very professional. The story line is gripping and suspenseful. The only downside to this film is that it is not a show for everyone. It is gripping and pretty raw. /still well worth watching

You think you could do it? Think again
voitekpendrak7 September 2019
I love the films that leave me thinking long after I finished watching them. THIS is one of them. Don't ask your date to watch it with you though. Unless you are planning to spend the rest of the evening having deep discussions on what's wrong with the system and how to fix it. It's a brutal story presented in such a way that I stopped paying attention to acting or the way it was filmed. I think it all comes nicely together to make the story be the main focus. You might think you know how the film will end based on everything you've watched so far....you will be wrong. It's a roller-coaster story where you don't know at which point the wheels will come off. Two thumbs up to the writer and director!

No Sugar Coating
debijohess20 August 2019
If you like a dose of realty you will really dig this drug addiction film. It's gets down to the real nitty gritty with a no nonsense storyline and acting that is in your face real. A very real life like portrayal of the slippery slop of drug addiction and the impact on the soul and others around you. There is some real heart and compassion in here as well. Very well executed with complimenting production values make this a real indie winner.

Timely Indie Drama
JGReviews24 August 2019
Better Than Love is a gripping indie drama. Based on true events, the film follows a young man who deals drugs in order to help get him out of the suburban ghetto. But after an altercation lands him in the hospital with a prescription to OxyContin, the young man slowly transforms from a dealer into an addicted customer. This is an incredibly timely film as the opioid epidemic is sweeping our country. I'm not sure that I've seen a film really deal with this issue yet. Better Than Love is gripping and very well crafted, particularly for an indie film. I very much liked the film's score as well. I'd highly recommend watching Better Than Love to anyone looking for a timely and high quality indie drama.

So Real
directortim201223 August 2019
There's no denying the power and raw emotion of this film. It's a descent into hell. And as the viewer, you're pulled along into the lower depths. There's great storytelling and acting here. This movie is to opioid addiction what The Lost Weekend is to alcoholism. A painful and involving story, based on a true story... making it all the more real. An excellent film!

A gritty look at whats happening today.
kraine98-89-688319 September 2019
Yes the movie is dark, but so is the subject. A stellar cast takes you on a journey though their personal struggle and in the end doesn't disappoint. This subject seems to be prevalent in film making today, and this film is a great representation of the subject. Good job.

How all indie movies should be made
freyamoran13 September 2019
This was a great movie. I thought the acting in it was stellar and also the cinematography, which I think combined can be uncommon in indie movies. It was heartfelt and real gritty, and gave you a look into the life of what happens when you meet drugs on your journey. Having personal experience with people lost to this terrible epidemic I thought this was very poignant. A must see whether you want to see just a good indie, or the subject matter at hand. My hat goes off to the people that made this.

Not bad.. I liked it a lot.
drw_816 November 2019
This is a movie telling the story of what happens everyday; How easily addiction can take ahold of anyone from all walks of life.

If you liked this movie then I highly recommend the movie "OXYmorons" which is on Amazon prime. It's a true story written and directed by a person caught up in the beginning of the OxyContin epidemic.

Solid Indie Film About Opiod Chrisis
turrou-66-90704827 November 2019
Better Than Love had some of the best production value I've seen for a smaller indie film. Really solid. Good acting. Takes a personal look at the opiod crisis from every angle. Also has an interesting feel because of its Seattle locations. The U.S. is in the middle of such a terrible pandemic of overdoses, and it's good to see these filmmakers shining a light on it.

An incredible film.
harriscalvin-111 April 2020
Better Than Love was an incredible dramatic film. One that dives head on into the magnitude & depths of the current opioids challanges globally. Director Ted Carney did a fantastic job working with his cast & crew and inspiring all of his actors to deliver their best performances. Lead actor Andrew Lawrence turn in a truly compelling performance. The music, editing, and cinematography were all on point.

Very touching performance about the opioid epidemic
caseykilloran3 September 2019
This movie tackles a very current topic. The opioid epidemic. The story really portraits how insidious addiction gets. I also loved that they set it in Seattle. It felt like the storyteller was telling a personal piece. And I love that feeling watching a story. The story focus on the journey of the lead, played by Andrew Lawrence, and he really goes all in on this piece. Very touching performance. I am looking forward to see more.

Powerful, engaging, humanizing
yoshakness11 October 2019
This movie was incredibly engaging! There are very few movies that I feel are this truthful and humanizing to those who struggle with addiction. This film was powerful in that it focused on the person themselves going through the struggle of addiction rather than on the common narrative of trying to save them from themselves. I recommend it for anyone interested in the opioid epidemic this is an extremely well-done movie!
