The Pain Gets Greater
Hitchcoc31 August 2016
River is filled with angst. His dead partner (whom he speaks with, though he's the only one who sees her) is going to be buried. He is also visited by the specter of the man he chased, thinking he was a guilty man. Of course, the man never stopped, but, rather, chose to jump to his death. Naturally, River is constantly under scrutiny because he is seen talking to no one. In this episode he begins to uncover evidence about his partner's death and what led to it. Of course, he can't really ask her questions because she isn't really there but is a manifestation of his brain. River is the product of Stellan Starsgaard' s amazing portrayal. He never doubts his abilities but is a loner and an enigma to the world. I was reminded a bit of the Wallander character in the Swedish series. Several things have gone unanswered and I look forward to Episode 3.

Warning: Spoilers
So intrigued by the opening episode, I've cancelled my plans in order to watch the second episode.

The cliffhanger, Railey's ghost telling River that he wasn't guilty, has left River feeling guilt ridden and vacuous, his death is investigated, and River is cleared. Although his position in the force is made clear. Stevie's body is finally released and the funeral takes place.

I love the music they've used throughout, it's so much at odds with the story, it fits brilliantly. Sensationally acted once again, Stellan Skarsgård is such a supremely talented actor, so capable at serious and funny, he's great in this, they did a great job landing him for this role. Also, Adeel Akhtar and Lesley Manville were really good.

Equally as good as the opening episode, River is turning out to be a first rate series! We get to learn more about River, as he opens up to Stevie and his Shrink, he is one fascinating character.

Demons

Another strong episode as we get to know John and his demons better even if we don't know why there is a scandinavian detective in the UK police service apart from boosting overseas sales of the show.

A great watch full of ghosts, demons and awful 80s music.
