Not great, but not that bad.
attbro18 July 2015
There will be a lot of reviews pointing out the historical inaccuracies and errors made within the film, and I won't refute that. When viewing for the first time I expected these faults in the writing and took them into account. It isn't the worst movie of all time, nor is it the best. The acting is sketchy and the graphics are average at best, but that's not what this flick is for. Of course there are things wrong with it, but that's the point. The film wasn't made for the purpose of historical accuracy, but as a simple sci-fi, action picture that would provide 90 minutes of entertainment. But when you see a description of a passenger aircraft from 2015 travelling through time to 1940, what did you honestly expect? Not a horrible movie, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes basic action and a bit of corny drama.

Not The Worst Bad Movie I've Ever Seen Warning: Spoilers
*A couple huge spoilers contained below* A blatant ripoff of 1980's "The Final Countdown" starring Kirk Douglas and Martin Sheen, with about 1% of the acting and effects quality.

That said, not the worst bad movie I've ever seen. If you go into this movie with the full knowledge that this is not going to have anything approaching high production values then you won't be disappointed. It's a bad movie. But I kind of enjoyed it. There are some eye-rollers to be sure but the movie was for the most part uniformly mediocre so most of the issues with it didn't bother me. It is somewhat self aware that it is a bad movie and I'll usually give a bad movie a pass if it is a bad movie that knows it's a bad movie.

The flying sequences with the German jets were surprisingly well done. The airliner itself is a joke but the exterior scenes of the fighters was better than anything else in the movie. The British radio operator acts quite well given what he is working with. The thing that bothers me more than anything else in the entire movie is how in ten minutes they were able to remove the radar, make a parachute and get it to the correct people. Oh, and the radar fits into a backpack? It looks like someone went to the salvage yard and pulled the grill off a '65 Riviera and called it a radar. Of all things for some reason this was the worst for me.

In response to the folks saying it is historically inaccurate. Yes...but they kind of address it in the movie. One of the historians was surprised by something the British radio operator said that made it sound like this was a bit of an alternate history. Sorry, I can't recall what it was right now.

The premise gets accepted a little too easily by the crew and the technical errors are too many to count but if you just relax and enjoy your popcorn and overlook the glaring errors you might not hate it too bad. There are a couple decent actors that help ground it a little bit and then there are a bunch of mediocre actors. And a couple downright horrible actors. Meh. It is what it is. My first impulse was to give it a five star rating but that is too much. I give it four because I was never tempted to shut it off. Even though it was relatively predictable and executed poorly, I kind of enjoyed it. Just turn off your brain a relax a little.

If you are going to spend almost two hours watching a time travel movie, check out the excellent "The Final Countdown." If you've already seen it and can relax and not over think it, go ahead and give this one a shot.

No No No - Crazy
MennoMan10 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Typical Asylum Film... well almost... Shades of "Final Countdown" but not as good nor as believable. First you need to understand how horrible the premise is.. After flying through a storm in the present, the plane ends up over Europe in 1940. After a few With 90 minutes of fight time they want to cut the Radar out of the plane and air drop it from the plane so they can connect it and help guide the plane... As if??? The Radar is complete in a small box in the front of plane.. ridiculous (only the Antenna is int the front.. Radar is tied to avionic in lower bay and connected to screen and controls in cockpit and this is simplistic) The idea 1940 England could even have any idea or compatible components is also crazy...But in this film the British private has it up and running with a screen in less than a minute... Imagine how the semiconductor would change the future. Good Grief.... All the while the same drool music plays in the background...

Oh.. almost forgot... Air to Air missiles and Air to Ground missiles in 1940???? AND A stupid twist that really make no sense is at the end.

If you want a cheesy "Fly through a Time Zone Storm into the Past Movie" watch the old "Final Countdown" film.

Put this in the $0.50 bin with the other Asylum Films. If you bought the DVD... Shhhhhhh! don't tell anyone!

Holy, holy, holy...that's the script
arborist-2325211 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The lead actor deserves better material to work with. He is very engaging and professional. Basically, that's the only compliment I can give this abysmal rehash of Final Countdown. I can suspend belief that even though the 757 has travelled back to an alternate June 1940, there are more holes in the locations and the plane than in the script. So Dunkirk is now a complete disaster and the British lost everyone, the Me262 rules the skies and somehow a remote British radio location equipped with very accurate SAM's somehow exists near Metz?? But we have been told RADAR doesn't exist in this alternate reality. France was overrun before Dunkirk which means Metz was occupied, no RAF fighters could have reached the 757 in less than 30 minutes, the Me 262 which didn't become operational till 1944 fired 30mm cannons which would have ripped the wing off the 757 in the first pass, ending the movie at least 30 minutes earlier. A writer, some technical advice and a little bit of consistency would have made this a much better film.

Total Rubbish
dragonco11 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Incredible in this day and age that producers have no idea whatever of aviation or modern day flight operations.

This film is so bad its a joke. Since when has it been a requirement for 2 pilots to operate the controls at the same time. What about fire drills, engine shut downs, narrow aisles and a realistic number of passengers for a 'transatlantic' flight?

As for British army officers addressing corporals by Christian names - never ever.

The biggest laughs come at the end, especially with the 'landing' and all the airport scenes - the only thing missing was the bloodhound dog watching the skies.

If you want to lose 2 hours of your life, watch this nonsense. Dreadful technicals and poor acting.

One to avoid.

Good?
rfwatson-1525011 June 2015
This is the 3rd film from The Asylum that I have read positive reviews about. What are they now paying people to write good reviews? Or are they logging in and writing them themselves? Either way, a film by The Asylum is always going to be awful. Always check the production company before buying, renting or downloading. If it's done by The Asylum, your wasting your time and money. They wouldn't know how to produce a good film if it fell in their lap. The only thing they know how to do is put out a cheap low budget movie. We can thank the Syfy channel for them. If it wasn't for Syfy buying and airing their crap, they would have folded along time ago.

A truly atrocious film
info-8734911 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Historically inaccurate in almost every way. You could forgive that if there was a good story in there. But no, the failure to make something of what is a good idea is almost criminal. I watched it based on its 6.1 rating but it doesn't rate more than a 1 in my book. ME 262 jets in 1940 are explained away by the past they were in was different to the history. There was not a aircraft in the air that could out climb or catch a modern airliner. Jetliners do not have radar as depicted, never have and likely never will as it is not needed. There is two hours of my life I can never get back. Don't bother you will get more enjoyment out of a colonic irrigation treatment.

Too many errors
pmpbds11 June 2015
So many errors: They say is 1940. Lancaster only fly in 1942. Me-262 operational 1944 No AAM nor SAM's in WW2 Me-262 don't have AAM's. Me-262 has 4x30mm guns not machine guns. If co-pilot his hit by one 30mm shell is in very bad shape. Cutting and dropping radar ???? British soldiers in 1940 with jeeps and American machine guns ? Me-262 flying faster than actual commercial jet ? Spitfires near German border. Commercial jet is near Germany but drop radar, British soldiers are nearby get it and in no time move it to England and turn it on. ? And that is not even half the errors i found !

This is not a movie - is a game of catching errors. I give 1 because is impossible to give 0 or negative.

Full disclosure. I like airplanes going back in time, ie 'The odyssey of Flight 33.' Well done for low, low budget. No spoilers here. It deserves some praise.

Anachronistic Garbage
jamojobo11 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I saw an ME 262 and thought, OK so maybe this is a rip-off of "Final Countdown", except when the Allies are bombing the shi'ite out of Germany, since we clearly couldn't get an accurate view of the bombers. But nope, they said it was a German bombing raid, in 1940... (why/how there would be jet fighters during the battle of Britain is beyond me.)

And of course there were hundreds of radio stations on the Western Front during 1940 (being that that was actually Great Britain). Radio's are practically one of the only reasons that the UK wasn't crushed during the German onslaught, I'm 17 and I know this. The directors couldn't spend 5 seconds doing just marginal historical research to not get sodomized by the critics, what the hell.

It's A Surprisingly Good, Low Budget Time-Waster
sddavis6312 December 2015
People need to cut this movie a bit of slack. It's just meant to be fun. It's not meant to be anything else. Sure the history is bizarre. That's even pointed out in the movie, as they discuss the Battle of Dunkirk - in this movie it didn't turn out the way it actually turned out. So, somehow, history is a little bit different, which perhaps helps to explain a lot of what seem to be historical inaccuracies. They're not inaccurate. The timeline is just a little bit different. Folks need to stop fixating on that and accept the movie as sheer entertainment. From that perspective it worked quite well.

International Airlines Flight 42 from Dulles to Heathrow encounters a weird storm over the Atlantic, and when passing through it also somehow goes back in time - emerging over the French coast during a German bombing raid in 1940. Nobody knows how it happened, and it takes a while for everyone to be convinced that it has happened - but however it happened, it happened, and it's enjoyable enough to watch as the crew and passengers come to terms with their situation and try to develop a plan to get out of it alive.

It's a low budget, sci-fi movie about time travel featuring a largely little known cast. You have to know that going in to it and set your expectations accordingly. I think the rating this movie gets here (4.4 at the time of writing) is ridiculously low. I'm going to give it an 8 - not because it's a great movie - but because in spite of its limitations it accomplishes what it sets out to accomplish. It's fun and it entertains. I had no trouble watching it from beginning to end - which is more than I can say for a lot of big budget movies with mega-stars.

Better than the usual B-movie fare
jaigurudavid25 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Much better than I expected! The plot is a bit tired and formulaic, and the special effects are so-so.

What really shines in this movie is the acting. It is pretty much top-notch throughout. Faran Tahir is excellent as the pilot (despite the inane and somewhat unlikely character name). Robby Kay is very believable as a young British soldier. Aqueela Zoll is more than just eye candy, and does a credible role as a competent and concerned flight attendant.

Worth a watch if you enjoy the alternate history and time-travel genre.

SPOILER ALERT: DON'T READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE

I laughed when they portrayed the Luftwaffe flying Me-262 jets in 1940, but later learned that this fits into the alternate-history plot.

Give It A break - It's Entertainment Folks.
m_lecarre11 June 2015
Why all the negative reviews based upon the lack of factual accuracy in this movie? Did Hello Dolly really sing along with Walter Matthau, or how about 'Don't call me Shirley . . .' What's 'wrong' with ridiculous when it comes to totally fictional movies whose sole purpose is to entertain and not inform. The Kirk Douglas movie had a big budget and was meant to be taken a little more seriously, but if time travel is a fact then I missed it in physics class :) Point is, if you base an entire movie on what is currently a totally fictional premise why do you need to get other scientific 'facts' straight before the movie can be enjoyable. How many movies are based on the Zombie Loonies Threaten The Earth? Have you seen many real zombies kicking around the streets lately - and no, I'm not talking about politicians so you can't count them okay:) It was obvious that the director was on a restricted budget (it is a B movie after all) and wasn't going for realism, rather he made an entertaining somewhat tongue-in-cheek movie. Not the best acting in the world, not the best of anything, but like so many other movies it was a decent entertaining watch none the less. I didn't consider my time wasted at all but then I like Sci-Fi anything and especially time travel movies even if they are, or sometimes especially if they are in the B movie class. 5 stars from me.

Would rather stick pins in me eyes !
annmon-6315521 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
It's up there as being one of the top ten of the worst films we have ever seen. It's that appalling it's comical.

The whole film is just set on the plane which wasn't obvious when reading the initial synopsis of the plot. We howled with laughter at the appalling acting; don't miss the German soldier being shot and his great death scene it's hilarious. Also the grinning, smiling and back patting of everyone at the end. This is despite the fact that 2 passengers had just been tragically sucked out of the plane. Waah and the captain's final slow motion saunter in slow motion to music as he leaves the plane at he end had us creased up :)

Avoid it at all costs. Just get drunk instead ;)

Better than expected
anthonywayneseiler6 July 2021
This movie has been available for some time through a couple of streaming channels, and was always reluctant to watch it, just the premise and title screamed "bad B movie". Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised, it was by no means a great movie, but it kept me interested enough to finish it and it wasn't completely insulting to one's intelligence. The real payoff was the very ending if the movie. It's not often that even a high budget movie surprises me, but this movie had a very nice surprise at the end that made the whole movie worth watching.

Terrible
jgiehm9 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Looked like a high school drama department production on a tight budget. As others have mentioned, full of errors, one second the aircraft is near Gander, next it's over the South of France next its landing in Berlin. The oh so valuable radar looked straight out of a 1950's television show, ala Captain Midnight. As mentioned the ME-262 came along very late in the war and although a hot rod compared to its propeller driven brothers, it performs poorly by today's standards and could easily be out run by a 757, speaking of which does not require two pilots jointly pulling and groaning as the tug on the control yoke to maintain control. Also amazing was the British corporal who apparently was the hero of the film, I especially enjoyed his ability to "field install" a radar system, which by the by, if removed from a 757, operates on 3 phase a/c power.....something that was no doubt in short supply, especially in a "tent", not to mention the skill sets required for assembly much less operation of same.....remembering that all of this survived after being dropped out of an airliner in a garbage bag and utilizing home made parachutes. The Captain of the airliner would be better served playing a cab driver in Mahattan, the quick healing first officer a high school student from the Welcome Back Cotter era. Aside from being chocked completely full of errors, completely mis-cast, and low budget to the extreme........if I could give it no stars, I would.

Serious suck fest
timwshea8 August 2015
I want to be smoking what the dude that thought this was the best time travel movie...(probably the director or producer) this was a giant steaming pile! My best guess is it was made to launder money..or maybe to keep someone busy enough to not come home for awhile.

If you want to see something that gives Istar some serious competition for worst ever check this out...but don't say you weren't warned.

I have to add some lines so will mention that all the actors are well advised to leave this off their resume..

The stewardesses...wow!

Interesting concept, didn't deliver
james-203-42951019 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
As a concept I thought it was very creative, but let down by amateur script and direction. Things happen that do not advance the story, and a shed load of what you think are sub-plots end up as pointless dead-ends. the lost plane faces Nazi planes powered by jet engine and even face numerous surface-to-air missiles. The explanation for this anachronism is non- satisfactory and again is never touched on again once explained. The acting is mixed. There are in fact some very good actors, but there are some real shockers too. the concept was interesting to me, as I love time travel movies, but this one was a corker, with more holes in it than the plane at the end of the movie. Avoid.

Crashed & burned (spoilers!)
paulcf-510-9104627 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Where do I start? The poster shows an airliner with 4 engines, but the passenger jet in the movie has only 2! Poor continuity. Two passengers are sucked out of the plane and then no further mention of their loss! When finally landed, had a good laugh, you can clearly see a Westjet 737 airplane, in Germany!? 737's and Westjet can't and don't fly to Europe from North America. A huge gaping hole in the fuselage and it looks pretty calm in the cabin. And it was an awfully short plane, only about 8 rows of seats, no other seats? If that was just 1st class, the rest of the plane passengers were very quiet! Poor Faran, he deserves much better roles! All in all glad I didn't spend a nickel to see this pathetic movie that could have been better made by a 16 year old!

Feel good tension with added war drama
mistermassive13 April 2016
I have to say that I expected "less" going into this. But it was a cold day and gray outside. I felt that since it was mid day I would watch something I could easily nap to and not stress about missing the show.

No napping took place as the movie has a smooth pace and a tension filled, techy and problematic storyline that keeps you tuned in to see what happens next. That said, you will find this movie is low budget but the acting and activity are really good. I felt that if I had seen this on TV one night I would go nuts talking about it at work the next day.

So if you like WWII "Stuff" and your in the mood for something not filled with smooching, heavy violence or drugs you will indeed find time well spent watching!!! Be sure to pay attention so you don't get confused at the end.

One Of The Worst Films I've Seen
survivorcritic18 January 2017
If you're thinking about watching this movie, stop thinking. You'd be doing better for yourself by punching yourself in the groin. It's a real stinker. Acting, directing, effects, camera work, historical accuracy, it's all bad. The worst part is they're all stuck in that plane and the movie is centered there. You get claustrophobia yourself in empathy. Passengers were jockeying in their seats to simulate movement of the plane and their motions looked so fake it was ludicrous. They did that simulation better in 1966 on Star Trek. It's supposed to be 1940 and two ME-262 German Aircraft attack. Run on kerosene and packing two jet engines, this aircraft could keep up with a jet airliner. It could only stay in the air a few minutes, but was the fastest plane around and packed a wallop from two 20MM cannons. The only problem is that this aircraft was not in action until late in the war.

Slipping Time Tracks
ralphv11 September 2015
The viewer will assume this is a time travel film, if only because the characters believe they have traveled in time, back to 1940. From the beginning, however, they are confronted with events that are apparently out of kilter, such as Dunkirk being a disaster rather than an inspirational evacuation, or Nazi jets, or Allied SAM weaponry, or the lack of British radar research, or...well, you get the idea--something is wrong, something even the professional historians aboard the airliner don't understand, and never really get. There is a temptation to dismiss the film as just a remake of The Final Countdown, but it goes past it in terms of theme, edging into more complexity, touching upon the idea of Intelligent Design, divine intervention, and the fluidity of time. Had the script actually addressed the issues directly rather than touching upon them tangentially, and also managed to remain above a certain level of pulpy mawkishness, the film would have been better. It might also then have risen above the mediocre acting. But the script writers did not, the director did not, and so we have a film that is highly entertaining and diverting, but is hardly challenging.

mikevonbach11 October 2015
This was a great Sunday Afternoon movie which is exactly When I viewed it. This

review is for the arm chair writers and directors that couldn't write their 5th

grade essay on what i did on my summer vacation . So what some of the facts

were off. No one's life was in danger. It's all make believe for entertainment

Why do we find so much fault. I didn't understand the last part when the old

man showed the pilot his journal on the events I agree it could have been better ,,,,But BEN HUR could have been better also . I think the Actors in this film were well cast and the FX WAS good for a (B) grade film .

It sucks....just saying
kvijayakumar19 June 2015
Sorry I literally almost fell asleep watching the first 10 minutes of this movie. It's really boring and I don't really think it was put together that well. I continued watching thinking okay maybe it might get better later but nope. It was literally just a bunch rip offs put together in one movie. Seriously though, don't watch it. There are probably a bunch of girls out there who want to watch it cuz Robbie Kay is in it. I know, cuz I was one of those girls. But trust me when I say it really is not worth it at all. It looks good in he trailers and stuff but it really isn't that great. If you want to see Robbie Kay, go watch season 3 of Once Upon a Time. That's way better anyway. So yeah, don't watch this rip off collage and go do something else, or else you will regret it like me.

Infuriatingly stupid
coughlanbrianm15 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I love alternate history. I went into this knowing it was irritating as hell but despite having my expectations set to for "Abysmal" I'm still annoyed.

So little of this makes sense.

*spoilers*

Why not fly to the UK? How would a corporal in the British Army have access to information that at the time would have been classified totally tip toppity top utterly most secret? How would he get access to this information in near real-time in 1940? How would 1940's tech integrate with a radar installation from 2000 fricking 15? Why would he discuss this stuff with a random voice in an open transmission? Then the business with the radar? Dropped practically in Germany itself? Jesus!!! These Germans have fully functional Me-262's already and they almost got fricking radar? How is Nigel just minutes away from Germany? The two "historians"? Ugh!!

Bottom line, nothing that Britain or America do in this timeline will stop the Nazis. Spitfires from 1940 would not stand a chance against ME-262's; Dunkirk is a proper disaster we are told and the Battle of Britain will almost certainly be lost probably by July, thus paving the way for operation Sea Lion.

One final observation. Nigel at one points wonders when the yanks will join the war effort, they could "use the technology". It was of course precisely the reverse that occurred; the British had the tech the Americans had the resources.

PPS that god awful "twist" at the end. What an excrescence this "film" is.
