Want to play a game?
nogodnomasters16 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Amanda Peterson (KylieRae Condon ) is brought to the St. Petersburg orphanage with a terminal case of possession, not terminal for her of course. The next thing you know, the orphanage is abandoned and 50 years later a group of "urban explorers" (Is that an oxymoron?) break-in one night and guess who is still there after 50 years and hasn't aged a day?

The production is filled with tons of jump scares. The kid is creepy, but it wears off as does everyone being dragged across the floor. It used to be that was the final scene of a movie, now it is every other scene. Eric Roberts' voice appears in the film on a battery-powered tape recorder that still works after five decades without a leaky battery. And how about a fifty-year-old generator turning over? I found those more unbelievable than the demon.

The film doesn't introduce the characters, instead, we get to know a few on the fly. Once the film gets going, it gets old real fast.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

Lame and typical stupid decisions...
AndyVanScoyoc10 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously, if people are this stupid during trying/scary/emergency times, then humanity really does need some kind of Apocalypse.

Dumb decisions, and honestly, you're facing possibly dying and yet you feel the need to berate your brother over some moronic high school type drama because he doesn't share every secret with you?

The ONLY reason I gave this movie even a 3 is because kids scare the crap out of me.

Do yourself a favor and skip this idiotic movie.

Not THAT bad
mvike27 January 2020
Is it scary? No. The acting while the characters are are shallow, is still decent. The movie LOOKS very nice, I'm always a fan of "trapped" somewhere movies so it's got that going for it. The plot is as generic as it gets. I'd rather they'd just somehow been trapped inside (maybe like House on Haunted Hill) without ghosts. Or maybe even just toss in a psycho security guard...as cliche as that is as well, it would've been better.

If you just can't find anything else to watch, and just want something to kill time, you could do MUCH worse.

It's A+ looking with a C- script/concept.

I wasn't pleased or disappointed
heatherlynn1986200516 May 2020
It was overall good. No nudity which is a bonus. I just wish it went more in depth with how things happened with Amanda and why she wanted to play a game so insistently. Where did all the people go and most of all, where did Amanda actually go?

Wow! A whole new stupid
africe12 August 2019
This has to be the worst acted and dumbest writing I've seen in a while. First of all, the gay guys are a couple of asswipe jerks. Really? Ignore a missing person to prank someone. Dumb! And the acting is so subpar they should find a new line of work. Film had a good concept but the storyline was idiotic. Maybe hire new actors, rewrite the damn thing and I'd give it a higher rating. At the moment, since 1 is the lowest, I give it that. It deserves a negative rating

It had eric Roberts...
ravenhair70220 April 2020
OKAY. My wife and I watched the trailer and thought okay...looks decent. So we started watching the movie...during the credits, we saw that...oh, chew it back...it had Eric Roberts in the movie. Now, for those of you that don't know, when a movie has Eric Roberts in a movie, no matter if it's a major role...(Yeah, right...) or a small role...the movie is DOOMED. I'm sorry, this man is cursed. Say what you will...but it's true. As far as the movie is concerned, It started with a good group of ten...yes, TEN people! Talk about strength in numbers. NOT in this case. They dropped like flies. The acting sucked and it was a bore to watch. Entered a haunted building and couldn't get out. HOW ORIGIONAL. I'd avoid this one, folks. it's a waste of time. I'm just trying to help here. Peace.

Messy
wandernn1-81-6832743 December 2019
Altho the movie has better effects than some it ends up being a sort of illogical mess.

Base 5:

-2 Poor Story / Writing

-1 Unoriginal

+1 A couple of funny moments but illogically timed.

This was some bad acting...
reala-637066 March 2019
Concept had potential, execution was horrible, there was even parts where characters were being irrational even by horror movie standards! I didn't give a one star only because I was invested enough in seeing who makes it out...

This movie has zero redeaming qualities.
aarnold-897478 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
To start with, the whole storyline is as unoriginal as it gets. A group of idiots go to explore an abandoned orphanage. And that is the peak of this movie. I understand that horror movies in general have characters do a lot of stupid and irrational things, but the extent that this group of morons commit idiotic decisions is unacceptable. Not a single smart idea or action was made in the entire movie. This demon is supposed to be hurt by light, but nobody uses their flashlights when it attacks. Even after people start dying, everyone keeps going off and doing their own thing by themselves.

The acting is bad. That's about all you can say about that. It's just not good. And the main heroine is just a "not nice person". I spent the entire movie just wishing she would get killed, knowing she would be the only one to survive. She's the main reason most people died. And she's a "not nice person" to everyone through the whole movie simply because her brother didn't tell her he was going to propose to his girlfriend. Seriously? If you want any sympathy built up for a character, you gonna have to do better than that.

Oh, and the demon? It's just a blurry shimmer, so I hope you're not expecting any kind of special effects. All in all, this movie is a complete waste and I honestly can't think of a single positive thing to say about it. Don't waste your time watching it. Your time could be spent doing much more purposeful things, like starting a petition to make sure these people never make another movie.

"Stay Out of the Dark"
Kamurai254 February 2021
Decent watch at best, probably won't watch again, and can't recommend unless it is for a Bad Movie Night.

I was so happy it wasn't the movie where they play flashlight in a graveyard and invite a ghost to play, but that momentum quickly faded.

It's like "As Above, So Below" and "Pitch Black" had a rather boring baby movie.

Don't get me wrong, the premise is good: girl is linked to a demon that hides in the dark, but can physically hunt down and rip people apart. Plenty of potential to hold up to either of the parents, and thank goodness they didn't do this as found footage.

With the merry band of idiots, I don't think I liked any of them as characters, to throw as fodder to a demon I was expecting to be excited about it getting them, but I just didn't care at all.

The effect work was amazingly good compared to the rest of the movie, so they definitely prioritized what they thought would be their pivotal moments on the spread sheet at least.

Honestly, go watch "As Above, So Below" and then "Pitch Black", then the rest of the "Riddick" series, then you can come back and watch this.

Good concept but annoying characters.
dlmyst-298133 July 2020
There were two characters at the start of the movie that you wanted to punch in the face. The two so called "bro dudes" almost made me stop watching the movie. The other characters rational are just above normal so the rest was tolerable. The premise is a simple ghost story with the little girl wanting to play a game with you. Though most of the characters don't play the game correctly or try to cheat so they get what's coming to them. Overall the movie is a fun watch but there's better ghost movies out there.

Director just wanted to film SOMETHING
lindo-julet17 December 2019
This is filled with so many halfway efforts, I'm convinced the director just wanted to make a movie that looks good. Vague story (which is so unoriginal, therefore it hurts the film to be that vague), random characters with fake problems (sister's issue with her brother seems so forced. I literally don't know why she cares so much, the actress is playing more of a disgruntled ex girlfriend than a caring sister. The stakes should have been MUCH higher for me to care about that sibling issue. The mother wasn't mentioned as being bothered by the marriage of her brother and the fact that i don't know why the sister needs to play "mom" when they have a mother already in the picture is confusing. Again, the stakes aren't high enough, comes off as "oh yeah, I need subplots and stuff").

I think we already know these characters have 0 personality. Any one of them could say each other's lines and it would've made no difference. Unbelievable dialect, the director/writer doesn't seem to know how a group of friends talk. Not to mention, the intro to this friends group was so in your face "can't you see we're friends?!" No individual personality that the actors could draw from cause I bet the director didn't write it for them.

Talk about stories unwritten, the little girl, invisible monster is a story given little thought. I mean, think this through!!! Don't hash out some vague imitation of other ideas and expect us to buy it!

If the director wanted to film a good looking movie, he did. It looks good for the horror genre (aside from the CG gaseous thing). But that's all it has. Direct other people's stuff, not your own writing.

Too many minor details to go into how many holes the movie has, but just know it gives 50% effort aside from knowing how to look decent.

Good looking movie with the stupidest person in it
dididore3 August 2020
The movie is very good looking and the demon/little girl in it are perfect to me.

BUT, the people in it are the stupidest I swear. If you want to see people kill themself by natural selection, this is the one.

Pretty Lame
NickGagnon9425 March 2022
Dreadfully boring and overly dark (lighting wise) supernatural one by one film. Eric Roberts is advertised as starring in this but I didnt see him. He must of been the voice on the recorder.

Mildly scary, very mild
rogapol20 July 2020
Bunch of teens heading off to a haunted house and the ghost/demon is a bad one. Who's going to make it through the night? It's one of those movies that 'could have been really good' but it wears quickly after the writer ran out of scary ideas so hit the repeat button. Worth a look if nothing else is on or you have to wash your hair tonight.

Mildly interesting
thomandybish-151142 March 2020
Yes, the set-up and tropes are all cliches. Yes, some of the backstories given to flesh out the characters seem strained. And yes, it starts out slow, although the "What was that?" and "Did you see that?" moments seemed like promises of better things to come. No, the acting wasn't all horrible (several of the actors are professionals, although none of them boast A-list credentials, and most of them can act competently). There were moments when, listening to the dialogue between characters meant to establish histories and relationships, I was sorta reminded of the relationships between characters in 1980s slasher movies--while not examples of stellar screenwriting, the scripts of those flicks often strove to create some sense of sympathy for their characters, unlike many of today's low-budget concoctions. Nothing new (or really compelling) is offered, but it's hardly unwatchable, and a rather admirable effort.

Ehhhhh...
tmccull5220 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A sinister, vengeful spirit/demonic entity that hides in the darkness and cannot bear strong light. "Lights Out" pulled this premise off much, much better. This isn't the worst ghost story/haunted house movie that I've ever seen, but it's nowhere near the best, either.
